WALK THE WALK
EVEN IF YOU CAN'T JUST TALK THE TALK
BA-CAWWWWWWW
I GOT A CALL

A great game but a horrendous port. Input lag on rhythm game is inexcusable and straight up breaks some levels. But still if you can't play this game any other way then i would still recommend it.

Pretty short but charming rhythm game imo

I had so much fun playing this game for the first time. The 2nd and 3rd levels are easily the best in the game.

The 4th level is terrible though, it’s the entire reason this game only gets a 4 star from me.

Edit: the game also has horrible optimization on some levels, so i have changed my rating to a 3.5.

I had a lot of fun with this one for the first time. I never played it back on ps1, and I love me a good rhythm game.

Every single day
Stress comes in every way

Trying to beat this game is a breeze until you get to that chicken, where you need to press your buttons with the worst timing cause for some reason it'll never hit if you play it right.

You ever finish a game and actively regret having played it?

I shouldn't have played this version of this game. I wish I'd seen the warnings. This remaster may be visually excellent, essentially perfect, but input lagged mixed with off-time audio makes it literally an unplayable mess that was actively enraging to play.

Still, the charm of the original manages to peek through the seams, and it kept me from fully hating it by the end. It's a good game done terribly, but at its core I can still see the good game and appreciate it for that.

Awesome soundtrack, fun designs. Rhythm doesn't make complete sense to a musical laman like me.

Can't imagine paying full price for this back in the day with how short it is.

PaRappa is a short and fulfilling little game that is certainly not worth the amount of money it went for at retail nor in today's secondary market (speaking of the PS1 release of course). That being said, just because it's short doesn't mean it's a breeze. Whether you're playing the original or the remaster, most of your playthrough will be spent mastering the timing correctly. It's pretty much essential to your progress. While it sounds frustrating on paper, the game does a good job in every other department from the bouncy rap music to the funnily-designed characters and the colorful aesthetic. Even now it's still a noteworthy rhythm-game to play through.

literally so wholesome bro joe chin is the mvp

The songs are still fun, but boy does the game not hold up otherwise.

Really lazy and poorly covered up port of the PSP version of PaRappa the Rapper. The music is fantastic of course though.

Yeah, this is a really bad remaster. Idk whats going on with it, but it rewards you for just button mashing. I was able to progress fine up until the final stage, but couldn't get past it without needing to exploit it, it just kept giving me a game over other wise. It’s a shame too because all of the ascetic elements have been touched up really well. Its just borderline unplayable as it was originally intended. Maybe one day I’ll try to play the original release, because otherwise its a solid, really short, rhythm game and I love the simplistic cartoon story and art style.

the original but upscaled, also barely works but great

A rhythm game that actively rewards you for going off-beat, which could be interesting if there was any sense of logic in the game mechanics at all. At least it looks cute

this is one of my favorite games, so bear with me when i say: it sure looks nice, but this port is a bit too accurate, and not in a great way. parappa the rapper hasn't aged too well, and (fun fact) this is just the PSP version emulated with 4k textures. (it's true; look it up) There is some delay, and it needs some getting used to (emulator delay + hdtv delay + the game itself) a very very fun and good time; with sony would give more of a crap. best way to play is the psp version on the psp or a modded vita, or find a copy of the original for the authentic ps1 experience (it also emulates great in epsxe these days)

I'm not sure if the button timings were off or if the game was just made that way, but I found the rhythm game aspect a little difficult to click with. Still, you can't deny Parappa's charm.

not really the best way to play the game... it's literally just the psp port but upscaled... but hey at least it's on ps4 i guess

They remastered it perfectly but the sound's slightly out of sync making it basically unplayable. 10/10 funniest game ever made

Cannot count the amount of times I played the Kick! Punch! part of the game on a demo disc back in the PS1 days. Disappointed in the rest of the game which has unbearably cringe cutscenes and a penultimate song about shitting your pants.

I always wanted to play PaRappa growing up but recently around last year or so I got around to buying this and the second game on my PS4, and I will definitely say this was very very enjoyable and fun. Still have a hard time in moments where I feel like there's some latency or delay with button presses but other than that, if this game is ever on sale or you just wanna play a neato rhythm game from the old school days, 100% recommend, such a fun wacky silly goofy doof ol time

PaRappa repeats everything he cannot come up with any new material

Actually worse than the original because of the timing window, some levels almost seem impossible to clear.

All this did was fuck up the timing of button presses. The cluck cluck chicken gal is nearly impossible.

It's so irreverently feverish and silly that I can't help but love it despite its franchise-starting flaws. I imagine I'll love 2 even more assuming it sands down some of the rough edges here and there (and makes the experience longer!)

i ain't got no time for nobody
