Would easily rate an 8 if the gameplay wasn't so excruciating. Story is great, but just play with cheats.

Boring dungeons, generic story. The ending made me roll my eyes because of how cliche it was. I liked the social links, I liked that the dungeons were a bit better than Tartarus, but overall, I found myself really bored unless I was doing a social link. The story was fun until I got to the end where a lot of it started to just fall apart to me personally. I find this difficult to replay because of how dull the dungeons are.

Look to my review of Golden. I grew up with the original but prefer Golden now, even though the hard cores don't, sowwy.

Heavily biased as I played this game when I was diagnosed with a chronic illness during high school, I grew up in a rather uneventful area like the game, and it really changed my outlook on my school/personal life. If you are a normal human, Golden is a direct upgrade gameplay-wise. However, if you're a snot like me, I actually prefer the original. Mainly, because I find both "having less is more" and the more washed-out color pallet fit the overall mood and aesthetic of the game better.

Easily one of the best games ever and with one of the best scores ever.

revising my score because the more i think about this game, the more i dislike it. gameplay is horrifically unbalanced and overall a miserable experience, it’s either frustratingly hard or “it’s literally impossible to die” easy. story and characters didn’t at all hook me the same way persona 3 and 5 did. i really don’t get why people love this game so much, even the beloved soundtrack is a miss for me except a few tracks.

Didn't age that perfectly, but the story is the best.

An RPG with a mediocre plot and character writing of arguable quality yet it somehow manages to have some of the most likable characters I've seen in an RPG and a combat system that turns simplicity into beauty.

Fleshes out the technical aspects P3 introduced and made them better. Going from a big city to a small town is a great change of pace. Instead of it being a god destroying the world, its a murder mystery instead. Characters are fun, social links feel way more developed and the dungeons feel less draining. The bad guy is one of the best villains in the series.

Combines the best elements of JoJo and Twin Peaks to create a wacky mystery adventure. RPG mechanics are solid and the story is engrossing. LGBTQ representation is mishandled and the conclusion isn't satisfying, but it's a great game overall.

would probably be a 3.0/5.0 for me if the story wasn't absolutely atrocious when it came to lgbt issues. fuck yosuke, i would use wishes from a genie to make him real just so i could strangle him to death. even if you ignore the horrid attempts at commentary on society, the gameplay is a huge step down from P3 and gives you less self-expression in both your time management and weapon choice. hard pass.

just barely worse than 3 and 5 but it's still fantastic.

Really love it and want to see more but didn't get very far before having to stop. Have to play in small sessions, but I'll finish one day

My favorite JRPG of all time.

Pure escapism.

While I think aspects of Persona 3 and Persona 5 are better than 4, I think 4 is ultimately the most consistent game in the series. The characters, the story, the gameplay, everything is compelling to the very end.

Cant wait to be able to buy Golden on Steam I can tell you that much

Being honest, I really didn't enjoy this game much if at all.
Social links are really boring outside of a few standouts, the gameplay is dated and the story frankly doesn't impress me that much. Saved by the main cast and a few others like Adachi, Dojima and Nanako being really memorable and likable along with stellar music and presentation.

lmao these guys are fucking idiots. "let's solve a murder mystery" yeah next time dont spend the next 80 hours doing absolutely fuck all. 10/10 would play again (and already have)

a very fun JRPG that is more fun to play than persona 3, because apparently being able to command your team is a selling point on the back of the ps2 box. i like the whole truth and lies topic, but it messes it up right at the true ending. The casual setting of the game appeals to me, and the shadows are neat ideas for character development. there are some characters I absolutely want to punch in the face if i ever saw them in public, but i guess crying to their character development balanced it out. A super casual game

the story and characters are all great but it's bogged down by repetitive dungeon design and the overuse slice of life anime bits

ATLUS butchered every LGBT character in here but it's honestly still fun and has an engaging narrative. Did you know Yosuke was supposed to be bi?

was alright, didn't like the dungeons particularly and only really liked half the cast. Maybe would play again someday but out of 3 4 and 5 this is my least favorite
