No es que reinvente la rueda con respecto al resto de la saga, pero el nuevo set-in le da una frescura sorprendente.

Pros:
- El nivel del guion sigue siendo muy alto, como nos viene acostumbrando la saga.
- La mecánica del jurado popular es uno de los mejores aportes al ritmo de los juicios, permitiendo además interactuar con muchos más personajes.
- Situarnos en una época más antigua en la que no existían los avances en reconocimiento de huellas o análisis de sangre le da unos enfoques muy curiosos a los casos.

Contras:
- Muchos diálogos siguen alargándose en demasía, reiterando una y otra vez evidencias que han quedado claras. Nada nuevo en el formato anime tampoco.
- Las fases de investigación no tienen demasiada profundidad, quedando todo el pescado por vender en los juicios.
- Parece que definitivamente se ha abandonado al público hispanohablante en las nuevas iteraciones de esta saga.

dgs1 can't really stand on its own weight(including the final villain) and the endings of cases 1/3 + not being able to investigate case 4's scene are kinda stupid but the main characters make up for it. overall good experience, can't wait for dgs2 to utilize this game's potential.

Great Ace Attoney es el vivo ejemplo de juego "Ok" que he jugado. No hace nada mal, todo lo que ofrece es bueno, pero tampoco tiene algo que lo haga llegar a la excelencia. aunque suene crudo lo que dije, la verdad es que lo disfrute bastante y sinceramente tenía pensado esperarme al próximo mes para jugar un nuevo ace atorney con loa colección de Apollo, pero luuego de varios meses sin tocar un ace attorney no pude aguantar y empecé TGAA y lo disfruté bastante. buenos personajes, buena ambientación, buen OST, como dije, no hay nada que haga mal.

ahora bien, lo siento pero tengo que decirlo y es que capcom es un tacaño de mierda. hay desarrolladoras literalmente indies que han dado voces en todos los diálogos de visual novels que son 2 o 3 veces más larga que cualquier juego de la saga, pero Capcom se empeña en no darle voces a los personajes...


This game was so much better than what I expected one of the best games I have played this year. I’m glad I was to finally go through the adventure.

This game has a special place in my heart. It was the first time I became invested in a game that wasn't officially available in my language; back in 2015 I desperately wanted The Great Ace Attorney to get localized, and I finally got my wish in 2021 - needless to say, I was just absolutely delighted.

But that wasn't the first time I experienced TGAA. After waiting so many years, I gave in and decided to watch a playthrough of Scarlet Study's excellent fan translation. Then a year or two later, I watched another playthrough. So now that I've replayed this game again (because I FINALLY am going to play TGAA2 - I don't understand why I waited this long), I've technically experienced TGAA four separate times now.

This game is still the GOAT of visual novels to me. The cast and their development, the historical context, the Sherlock Holmes inspiration, the incredible music... absolute masterpiece. I gained a newfound appreciation for the little details, like Gregon's character motivations or Susato's beautifully animated expressions. And now that I'm finally going to get to experience its sequel soon, I am beyond excited and pretty much expecting the full story to be one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time.

Replayed GAA:A and it was pretty good. Its the funnest in the series to actually play and the new setting/characters are all fucking fantastic sholmes of course being the main highlight but I would say this game is on the weaker side of AA games since overall Alot of it feels like set up for Resolve and the first half of the game doesn't really have any full cases which are still good especially episode 2 but it just kinda doesn't amount to the quality of the series best. Naruhodo's character arc in this game is fucking awsome tho

I was skeptical of the transition to 3d at first, but the expressive character animations and new gameplay mechanics warmed up to me pretty quickly
The cases are all very good (except the second one) but what really makes this game for me are the amazing cast of characters and attention to detail

Please don't take my stars personally. The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures is the first half of Ryunosuke Naruhodo's story and, for certain reasons, one of the most interesting games in the series. A few years ago, Shu Takumi left the numbered installments in favour of Ace Attorney: Investigations team to go their own way, while he was interested in telling a story about the past in a spin-off duology originally for Nintendo 3DS. I think the crossover with Professor Layton was a success in Shu Takumi's narrative vision, although he already showed his wonderful storytelling skills with Ghost Trick. YT user @bowloflentils made an essay video about it.

As I said, The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures is the beginning of Ryunosuke Naruhodo's journey, but... In a different way than his great-grandson. He's the defendant in the first case, and he's not even the protagonist of this story, but things happen on a transatlantic ship to London, and Ryunosuke has to take the spotlight from his senior: Kazuma Asogi. With his assistant, Susato Mikotoba, Ryunosuke will have to face the modern British justice system in the face of the outdated and narrow-minded Japanese system. I think it's Japan, but I didn't see a hamburger stand, so...

The story follows Ryunosuke through the many problems he has to deal with on his arrival in London: a murder case on his first day, a bizarre fatal accident involving one of Japan's greatest writers, Natsume Soseki, on his second day, and a final case where everything comes together. It's not a grand story, but it's the most fitting to show the development of Ryunosuke's character as a lawyer. In that sense, I can't give the game a higher rating, because it's an unfinished story, but it's necessary for the sequel, and it's really well-written. I also appreciate the fact that the game leaves some mysteries unresolved and doesn't conclude the story with a typical 'anime cliffhanger".

In terms of gameplay, the cross-examination is more refined and the trials take on the mechanics of the crossover with Professor Layton. These additions enrich the overall dynamic, and the gestures and movements of the characters themselves are really fascinating. Some even have their own individual music themes. The game doesn't feel dull or overstretched.

P.D. I love the name change to Herlock Sholmes in the English version. It fits his character better.

There was a lot of yaoi that I had no idea existed that I discovered because of this game, I think that makes it peak

Not a huge fan of the cases, but the overarching narrative is great

Fantastic presentation marred by glacially slow pacing, no text speed options and some of the least interesting cases in the franchise.

This seems more interested in setting up a bunch of larger mysteries to be solved in the sequel, which will hopefully pay off well when I finally get around to beating GAA2, but it unfortunately makes for a very underwhelming game by its own merits.

Also, despite the mind-numbingly slow nature of the gameplay and the amount of time since release, the updated Switch version of GAA1 is littered with spelling errors and grammatical mistakes. It paradoxically feels horribly drawn out and oddly rushed at the same time.

It took me 1.5 years to actually beat this after pausing it at the end of Chapter 4 back in April 2021. The fatigue of this game put me off continuing into the final chapter for months, and having finally played it - that was a wise choice. The final chapter alone contains 3-4 hours of investigation and 5-6 hours of trial. It's a party guest that overstays its welcome, not knowing well enough when to leave, far beyond when the fun was over.

Improves on the AA formula with new gimmicks and systems and a very charming main cast. Presentation is top notch and the music is fire. My biggest issue is that most of the time is spent setting up the next game.

pacing is kinda slow at the start cause it takes its time introducing every new mechanic, but I love the new characters and the writing is so good

A huge breath of fresh air after experiencing the sub par efforts of AA5 and AA6. Admittingly, some of the parts of this game's story tend to drag on, however the payoff in the end felt very rewarding. It serves as a great set up for the next game, and I am looking forward to concluding that journey.

Filled with a cast of memorable and hilarious characters, five enticing cases, and excellent pacing this is one of the best visual novels I’ve ever played. Highly recommended for those that like solving mysteries and turn of the century London.

case 2 was annoying and the lack of investigation until chapter 4 was annoying but sholmes iris and gina make up for all the games flaws tenfold. best character writing ive seen in an aa game easily (though aai2 comes close) and im very excited to see where two takes it

The game was good, worse than the first and third games of the original trilogy (I haven't played the Apollo and Investigations games yet).
The first case was good, but it kinda felt too long for being a tutorial case and the second while introducing the best character in the game, it felt lacking because it was only investigations and had no trial segments.
The third case is great, it felt similar to Farewell my Turnabout, with the whole defending guilty stuff.
The fourth was a good filler case, but I was getting tired of accidental murders by then and the fifth was great, but worse than the third.
My ranking of the cases is:
3 > 5 > 1 > 4 > 2

i just want to state that this is currently an incomplete review as i have only played the first game but this will be updated when that happens (who knows my backlog is massive)

the first great ace attorney is a very interesting package. i really loved the first case and i think it does the nervous person doing their first ever case trope better than all of the other games. when you hear that first objection and go oh shiiiiit. its a great case. after that i felt the game was a little slow. didn't help that the second case was all investigating but i felt like my main problem was the lack of stakes. this game has 5 cases and within those 5 they pull both the accidental murder trope and the no culprit trope which im not the biggest fan of in this games COUGH COUGH* turnabout reclaimed. its still a great time and i definitely need to play the second one at some point

As a fan of the original Ace Attorney Trilogy, nothing could’ve piqued my interest more than the setting change to a Victorian era courtroom and all the miniscule setting changes that would entail such as the lack of better forensic technology. I see this as allowing them to have more freedom in the cases they can write as more simpler events can’t just be hand waived with just searching a single aspect like blood DNA or fingerprint.

Story-wise this entry is definitely a visible upgrade from the original trilogy, granted I can’t say much compared to the Apollo Justice games as I haven’t played those. Each case feels incredibly significant to not only the characters involved but also Naruhodo’s development as a lawyer in a foreign nation. With each chapter, there’s a sense of progress in the main character’s understanding but also how well realized the world is in which Naruhodo feels a stranger to yet acclimatize. This culminates with every courtroom battle feeling tense but also hype when he eventually gains his victory, with him being an underdog making it all the more rewarding when he does bring the truth to the court.

The gameplay remains largely the same with previous iterations in being mostly a visual novel with some interactivity when investigating and choosing options in the courtroom. There’s some added features to it which makes it more suitable for the era it's in but nothing substantial enough I would point out here. What’s worth noting though is the puzzle element in this game feels the most forgiving in previous games as although not obvious, they also never make it too apparent as to what is the key in solving a particular scenario which I appreciated a lot. This level of difficulty really lets me fully engage with the story while being challenged, yet never overwhelmed to the point of ruining my immersion which I feel these sorts of visual novel mysteries tend to struggle in balancing.

My biggest highlight for this game has to be its presentation. They just completely nail the 19th century London aesthetic creating this drab yet lived world where a couple of Nipponese ambassadors would feel unwelcome. The brownish color palette is just perfect in encapsulating the melancholic vibe of this fictional London’s unforgiving atmosphere perfect in the winter season this game is set in. Couple this with the elegant soundtrack which captures the British class culture, creating an enamoring experience where I’m just fully immersed in the setting of the world as Ryunosuke Naruhodo.

The Great Ace Attorney Adventures is an amazing entry to the classic Ace Attorney series, and works well even as an entry point as there really isn’t much background you need to know to get into this game. It takes its time in getting you invested with its world and characters while also providing a dramatic narrative with twists and turns as you navigate a mystery with its intuitive system in both investigating and the trial. There isn’t much negative to say about this game besides the fact if you’re not into this genre. 8.5/10, that cliffhanger ending makes me grateful the re-release comes with both games.

theatrics have always been core to ace attorney, but dgs revels in its flair. [best character] sholmes and ryonusuke's 7/4 tangos of dual deduction represent a microcosm of the entire game: though mechanically thin, a synchronistically well-crafted spectacle. british

Finally, an Ace Attorney game localized into English that takes place in Japan, for all of one case.

this was really hard to get through... honestly really disappointing because i was excited to get through this.
every case other than the last one was like... baby easy to get through honestly.
i have other nitpicks about some specific aspects but it boils down to my preference of what i want out of ace attorney...
also the jury gameplay mechanic kinda sucked too tbh. the last case was REALLY good but i just wish the rest of the game actually carried the momentum to get you to the final case... the 4th case literally felt like something that couldve worked as a 2nd case if you get the idea.
also the total lack of investigation segments and its just mostly trial and no balance... ugh idk it felt lazy to me. i really liked having that investigation and trial balance in the phoenix wright trilogy.
ive heard the 2nd game is where all the exciting stuff happens so im excited to get to it but im definitely going to need a break in between. its not like my expectations for tgaa2 are set up in any capacity at this rate. but that might be me influenced by the fact twitteroids cant stop putting spoilers on my timeline for it

Quite possibly one of the best visual novels ever made


Went through this with some friends and honestly this game is one of the best Ace Attorney games in the series. The writing is insane, love the main cast and the side characters and how well everyone bounces off of each other over the course of the game. Also I love the fact that group testimonies from PL vs AA make a return here along with a jury system in court and deduction sections in investigation gameplay to spice things up. Not sure what happens in the second game but I am super excited for it, especially after going through this.

Good story ruined by slow pacing. one of my main issues is the investigations. it's extremely boring and slow, and most of the stuff don't even feel important. i'm not joking that you'll feel more thrilled reading what's happening off a wiki or watching it on youtube on 2X, especially around the start of episode 5. i can't shake the feeling that even in the original trilogy the buildup was more enjoyable althought I truly enjoy every aspect of the trial and every little thing they added, especially trying to pit the jury and find contradictions, best AA game gameplay wise.
I don't really like sholmes character, he's annoying and childish and correcting him is just a hustle. other than that the game has an amazing soundtrack with stunning art. it felt like it was more of a build up to the next game rather then a game on its one which I don't really appreciate, I might be wrong. but I'll find out after I finish the second game. I put a lot of faith into it and probably will like this game after the second one.
even after all of my issues with the game, I still think it has epic moments. So, My learned niponese friends, for the conclusion, sadly i can't recommend it to anyone.
