this game is awesome sauce if you ignore tiny huge island and the camera

A great platformer marred by the fact that it was made in a time before they figured out how to do camera controls.

This game is a monument and I don't know if there is much I can add to the discussion. There's a reason this game has endured in the fandom for this long. Always a fun time when I boot this game up.

Not my favorite Mario cause of the movement but revolutionary and cool

Is really good despite some dated elements I still say this game is one of the best platformers and the one that come after it are just better

Fun game, but awful controls. The Wing Cap red coins stars was one of the worst things I've had to do this year.

Played using Super Mario 3D All-Stars, collected all 120 Power Stars, and beat Bowser; don't worry, I didn't forget to go meet Yoshi up on the roof after I was done.

This game is really cool. The music is nice, atmosphere is big and decorated yet empty, providing Mario plenty of space to jump through.

Mario's jumps are all very cool, from long jumps to full on flips. Best part about Mario's new jumps? It only takes a few minutes to learn and master Mario's abilities.

With 120 stars in total to collect, there's a handful of things you can do in Mario 64. If you wanna race a koopa, you can do that. If you wanna swim and face an ugly fish, you can do that. If you wanna go and challenge Bowser in what feels like the pits of hell, you can do that. If you just wanna relax outside of Princess Peach's castle.. you can do that too. Whatever you do in this game, it's guaranteed you'll spend at least an hour on it.

Incredible game.

The freaking camera controls will be the end of me

Mastered with RetroAchievements. Still one of the best games of all time. Achievements were fun too, there were a bunch of small hidden things I had no idea about. Will probably go back and do the subsets at some point.

The early 3d game jank is VERY prevalent but it's still fun.

i remember throwing my ds because bowser shit on me.. def need to play it again.

Goated game. Had to learn this motherfucker in and out to get a good sub 20 on my 16-star but always been a fan of this game since I had it on my wii and later speedrunning it. Super impressive leap for Nintendo, Mario, platformers, and game design as a whole. Every level is classic and a joy to explore and run around in finding secrets. Overworld is insane too. No complaints.

It's hard to believe this game came out when it did. It still genuinely holds up today. The controls could use some refining in a few places, namely Mario's weird ass Ring Around The Rosy move he does when you try to turn around. My biggest complaint with this game is that Mario is literally too good for the levels. They don't make use of all his tricks enough. The Mario 64 Romhacking community, however, has more than made up for that. Check out SM64 - Decades Later for a good example of a masterfully made Mario 64 romhack.

I'm so glad the Decompilation scene has made this game not feel like aged cheese.

Ok, a bit too harsh, but still, SM64Plus made this a huge blast to play through, and I can really see what made this game so praised.

Mario 64 is one of the most famous and influential games of all time. It is a pivotal game in the Mario series since it's the first 3D entry. At the time the gameplay and graphics were revolutionary but nowadays they are antiquated. I really wanted to like this game, I liked Ocarina of Time, but unfortunately, this game was frustrating. The camera is difficult to control and being the first 3D Mario game means the controls aren't as fluid as later games. Both of these aspects combine to create a game that is difficult for all the wrong reasons. The final boss, in particular, was annoying because I was terrible at timing the throws. Despite all that I still had some fun playing the game but in terms of frustration, it ranks up there with God of War (2005) and sadly I can't commend this game as much as others in the franchise.
