On an engine that doesn't have a famously-bad character controller and a penchant for inexplicable crashes, this would be a flawless game. Instead it's just extremely good. Wonderful and reactive story, a well-realized world, builds upon the mythos with care and insight, and just plain fun! Ugly as piss but you do the best with what you got.

Give Josh Sawyer infinite money and a talented team please. The man deserves to not have every triumphantly good RPG he directs be ruined by corporate meddling.

I love and hate this game. From one side the story is immersive, every dialogue has its charm and every choice matters to the game.

But on the other side, you have to save at every corner, this game sure loves to freeze or crash at random on console, never trust the autosave.

as much as i found the dialog very interesting, i just found it really boring to walk around in a snails pace and the combat is just really slow for me. once i mod this game with a new computer i’ll give it the score it deserves

A masterpiece that is a victim of a rushed development cycle and outdated engine. Port this thing to the fallout 4 engine and add an extra few years to restore cut content and it’ll be perfect.

As is though it’s a wonderful experience, as long as you’re willing to to put in time to patch the game

New Vegas is a buggy, flawed masterpiece. A true sequel to the groundwork laid by Black Isle. And it's one of my favorite games of all time. I wish RPG's followed NV's lead in terms of writing and mechanics. It's truly Obsidian's magnum opus.

Played this through and I'm glad I did. The game definitely shows its age, and for that reason I'd probably rather revisit Fallout 4, but I can see why this is a classic.

This is very possibly the greatest RPG of all time. Obsidian understands what Bethesda fails to grasp about the Fallout games. It's not a post-apocalyptic game, it's a post-post-apocalyptic game, and it's up to the survivors of post-apocalyptia to iron out who the new rule of law is going to be.

bad fallout like all the new ones but people pretend this one is good

For the past maybe two months I've been exposed to enough Fallout to kill a person, with the TV show coming out in tandem with my playthrough of New Vegas. So I was relieved to finish the game once I reached its climax. However, don't let that downplay how great this game is.

Fallout New Vegas is one of the best RPGs to come out. The game writing and story are second to none and the plethora of choices, side content and routes make each journey truly unique. As well as this the story makes you question what's best for the wasteland with each of the factions you can side with having both pros and cons. Fallout New Vegas has proven even through time that it still stands above many modern-day releases. However, with time Fallout has begun to show its age terribly. At the time of New Vegas's release, it was already pretty dated compared to other games coming and with the abundance of bugs, glitches and crashes that do still follow the game it makes an experience that would be fun, overly frustrating. Although some of these issues can be fixed with mods the real problem comes down to the engine, a problem that cannot be fixed unless we get a remake or remaster which as well would hopefully fix the clunky combat and movement. Lastly, I want to touch on New Vegas's DLCs. New Vegas has 4 main story DLCs all of which follow the trend of having spectacular writing, however, when playing these DLCs I found that there was a lack of content. Take for example Broken Heart. The game adds a new location, a few new side quests and a few new weapons. However, these additions are quite minuscule with the few weapons added being quite uninteresting and the lack of new enemies besides the yoa guai that's ported from Fallout 3 leaves much to be desired. Besides that the DLCs are great with my favourite being Old World Blues.
Overall Fallout New Vegas is a brilliant game that is sadly bogged down by an engine that even at the time was crirised. To say I enjoyed my time with Fallout New Vegas would be an understatement. I've put past 100 hours into this game and yet I know I still haven't scratched the surface of what this game offers.

I genuinely, earnestly, don't think there's anything I can say here.

This game is a mess of spaghetti code and bugs and crashes, but despite that it's still one of the best games ever made.

In contrast to Bethesda's take on Fallout, this is a true role playing game. Most quests have multiple outcomes and solutions that account for several playstyles. They also all connect to the overall story and conflict in a very realistic way. While the open world kind of suffers and is less interesting to explore compared to Fallout 3, it makes up for it for the sheer amount of content and replayability it has. The fact that this was made in merely 18 months is insane to me, even with the reused assets.

The DLC is a mixed bag. Dead Money conceptually is great with a fantastic plot, but the gameplay is a chore, especially the speakers and radios you have to deal with. Honest Hearts is fun to explore, but its quests are basically just fetch quests and the story is completely carried by Joshua Graham. Old World Blues is funny, if a little too goofy at times, and fun to explore, but has similar issues with Honest Hearts where all the quests are fetch quests. You at least get crazy rewards from it.

Lonesome Road meanwhile is arguably the worst DLC in any Fallout game. The environments are cool, but Ulysses just sucks as a character and is the epitome of everything wrong with Chris Avellone's writing. Add in a linear area with obnoxious enemies and you get one slog of an add-on. Killing Ulysses is the best part of it.

Not 100% sure if New Vegas is still my favorite game, but it's definitely in the running. I just hope that Obsidian or some other decent developer can some day make another Fallout game instead of waiting for Bethesda-slop.

The best Fallout ever made since the Fallout franchise was sold to Bethesda. Best part, this beauty of a game wasn't created by Bethesda.
The writing is godly, the world design works wonderfully.
The DLC on most parts are good (95% good).
It's Vegas Baby.

One of the most entertaining games I have had the pleasure of playing. Lost well over a 100 hours in exploring the overworld and completing sidequests. I have my nitpicks and gripes but all in all a great gaming experience that I won’t forget for a long time.

a great fallout game with some minor flaws. the environments are gorgeous and the story is a lot of fun, with all four major factions being very interesting. in terms of gameplay, there's a lot of weapon variety, and while combat isnt as smooth as fallout 4 it's still very satisfying. of course, the game doesn't run too well. i personally experienced dozens of crashes near the end of the game, which was extemely frustrating. one thing i really disliked was the interior designs. many interiors, especially the vaults, are terribly lit, look the same no matter where you are, and are designed like mazes, to the point where i've had to give up on some quests completely because i couldnt figure out where the hell i was going. however, despite these two flaws, i still really enjoyed this game.

Good game. Probably my favourite Fallout title.

"The greatest Fallout game of all time." I will admit, it's great, I love the story, it's amazing. I will however say the gameplay is definitely not up to date. The Pip-Boy can be clunky at times but I still had fun playing it in 2023.

Got 40 hours in my main game I feel like I did not even scratch the surface of what this game can offer (without the DLCs!). However, after doing whatever sidequests I came across and the main quest line, I can say with total confidence this is the best open world RPG I've ever played. It's insane how much holds up after a decade of this game's release. I recommend this 100% (with mods, if you can).

one of the best RPG a gamer could ever play

ive tried like 8 different times with a shit ton of mod packs and tried vanilla and i just cant.. I CANT

Tried with the Viva New Vegas modlist and it felt like a recent remaster. The story is still as good and the rest was way more polished. It can be a little dated, but still worth it in 2024

Good story, atmosphere, and characters. Poorly dated gameplay.

I absolutely hated playing this game in the short time I did. Lack of healing items made it easy to constantly die. Which I was doing a lot of as while I was 'running' around the wasteland I would constantly get ambushed by raiders and various animals. The combat sucked which made it impossible for me to kill these enemies effectively without VATS, aiming was unreliable, my weapons would do minimal damage and it was impossible to know whether or not I hit what I was aiming at and don't even me started on the movement in this game. You're telling me I have to go up and down the state of Nevada while moving at a SLOW JOG. It felt like torture to go anywhere in this game. Would never even try and play this god awful game again

One of the few games where playing it now isn't a matter of being blinded by nostalgia. Some of the DLCs are lacking in content but oh well, the modding community is insane in that regard. Still a great game 14 years later and one of my favourites.

There's a reason everyone says its the best Fallout game. So many interesting things in the world that can play out entirely differently with different character.

My favorite game of all time, absolute masterpiece. It’s impossible for me to get bored and I can get bored quick usually.
