More like Megaman 9/11 cause that’s what this game was for good game design

the best one

dr. wily was kinda right too but only kinda because he still sucks, but then again him sucking and being manipulative is probably what spared these poor robots

splash woman rules

REALLY good, until the wily stages where the difficulty goes from challenging but fair, to challenging, but fuck you

Terrible. By far the worst classic Mega Man game and a strong contender for the worst game in any Mega Man series. The design choices in this game are profoundly stupid. All of them. The removal of charge and slide, the outrageously slow menus with the same texts being repeated endlessly, the overuse of spikes and jumps that require perfection, among other things.

When it comes to retro games, it's true that they're often associated with high difficulty, but also with well-crafted level design and overall good progression. This game lacks an interesting one. Instead it is repetitive, and excessively frustrating level design. It also amplifies the worst flaws of these retro games like terrible navigation menus. In some cases, it goes beyond that, EXACERBATING these issues. Mega Man 2, for example, was nowhere near as clunky as 9 is.

I'd probably give it an even worse score, but visually, the game has a charm and a few stages are decent. It's a game from 1986 stuck in 2008. But not from a competent developer like Capcom, but rather on the level of bad stuff like LJN games.

literal peak megaman if you disagree you already drank the koolaid bro... wonderful level design (tornado man's platforms, the birds in concrete man's stage are megaman screen scrolling chaos incarnate and plug man's arduous disappearing block section all come to mind) a point of contention i see is megaman not having a slide or a charge, to that i say play proto man and quit crying. a slick gaming challenge and what migfht be the best game in the classic series (cant decide between this 8 or 10) just because a game is unfair or challenging does not make it bad

Played through Mega Man Legacy Collection 2

WOW! For a game I didn't care that much when I first beat it, mostly because of the lack of the slide and the charged shot, Mega Man 9 really surprised me after replaying it, it has a certain level of creativity that is pretty rare to see in the franchise, one of the best selection of weapons in the entire series, a banger OST even for MM standards, great levels, very memorable and fun bosses (except for you, Twin Devil!), and a high difficulty while still being very rewarding and fair to beat... At least most of the time, the game still has some questionable design choices here and there, but not nearly as much as some say, and I only saw 2 troll moments during my entire gameplay, while other games in the series like Mega Man 2 has way more. Overall, I had an amazing time playing Mega Man 9, and it's possibly my new favorite game from the classic series.

Safadeza fazer o jogo no estilo NES, devíamos ter tido um no estilo do MegaMan 11 bem antes, só não dou nota menor pois gostei dos chefes.

A clear love letter to the Mega Man franchise, that feels like it was made for fans who have been playing since the very first release in 1987 (i.e. not me)

Remember Mega Man 2?

A game too nostalgic for its own good, Mega Man 9 tested the waters to see if anyone was interested in a new Mega Man game after a while. It was also seemingly made for those Mega Man fans who had played so much Mega Man that the previous 8 games were Too Easy. I'm not sure if they wanted people to jump right into 9 as their first Mega Man or they wanted them to go back to the first one, but considering how bare bones this game is, it's a strange approach no matter what.

Mega Man 9, in an attempt to be like only a quarter of its past, removes Mega Man's ability to slide or charge his buster (two things i'm very fond of doing in a Mega Man game). This makes traversal and combat a more pure and challenging experience, but also, potentially, a pretty limited one. Your jumps have to be Perfect.

Your movement is not entirely limited though. While a whole lot more clumsy and scarce than the Mega Ball, the Concrete Shot allows you to scale walls and quickly jump off of frozen enemies, and the game demands you use it in some pretty creative ways. I love the Concrete Shot, i would love to have infinite ammo for it. Speaking of ammo, Magma Man has more health points than you have ammo for Tornado Blow, his weakness. What were they thinking.

I have beaten Mega Man 9 twice and hated it the first time because i was young and dumb. The second time, as a wizened sage, I appreciate it so much more. It's a decent time that rewards a really (emphasis on really) skilled player. There are better Mega Man games out there.

I can really only recommend Mega Man 9 for people who like Mega Man and have played the previous games in the series, and know full well 9 takes all your toys away and still expects you to play.

yes yes, Splash Woman is cute.

Damn, I did not expect to walk away from Mega Man 9 expecting to call it one of my more least favorite games in the series so far, because I heard mostly good of the game. And you know what, some of that good is really good. I do like the bosses, I like the weapons, I even really like the Wily bosses, they're the most consistently good (though not the absolute highest) they have been yet. I even like the story because it's point about an expiry date for robots is an interesting point I kind of wish was expanded on a bit more.

I just don't like playing this game. And I'm admittedly a bit upset to say that, because i knew some of stuff to expect. I knew this game removed some key tools like the slide and charge shot, and also the ones unique to 8 that I really liked. I heard a lot of good things about the weapon variety and bosses of this game, and a lot of that made me excited to finally see why people like it. I just wish the level design wasn't so dickish.

Each and every level of the game to varying degrees is filled with enemies with annoying patterns that love to potshot you, a plethora of death spikes and other insta-kill obstacles all across the game, and some really frustrating platforming sequences stringing these aspects as well as annoying mini-bosses that just make some levels really not fun. Jewel Man's is the worst, but I don't like Magma Man or Hornet Man's stages either. Pile all of this ontop of feeling overly limited from a lot of the stuff prior games had, especially 8, and you can kind of get why this game just doesn't do much for me.

I do know Proto Man has some of the stuff i'm looking for, like a slide and charge shot, but pile on the level design issues I have with his tendency to take double damage from everything, and no. I'm not doing it.

I'm not saying Mega Man hasn't had hard moments or bullshit level design. I think even some of the games I like a lot like 5 and 8 have some cases of it that you can point to. This one is just more consistently frustrating for all I described.

Don't get me wrong, I think this game does have some cool gimmicks here and there for it's stages, either revisited ones like the bubbles in Splash Woman's stage, or the weather changing in Tornado Man's stage, but also the enemies that create fake blocks you have to remember to stay away from in Concrete Man's stage, the shielded enemies you have to shoot to clear a path in Hornet Man's stage, the Teleporters in Galaxy Man's stage, and kind of the grabby dudes in the same stage. I think there is cool stuff, but not enough to erase the tedium.

This game feels too stripped back for me. I don't think it's intended to be an "evolutionary step forward", more to appeal to people who just wanted a new mega man game, especially those that liked 2 a lot, but even as that, I think it's just let down by how frustrating it is to play overall. Which again, sucks. I love a lot of the characters and bosses in this game, and a mega man game peddling a really interesting point with it's narrative is surprisingly welcomed. But... I dunno.

Either way, here's my boss rankings if you're curious.

8 - Concrete Man
7 - Plug Man
6 - Hornet Man
5 - Tornado Man
4 - Magma Man
3 - Jewel Man
2 - Galaxy Man
1 - Splash Woman

There are a lot of cool design decisions in this game that do a good job evolving the formula of Classic Mega Man, and I really respect it for being an 8-bit 2D platformer released by a AAA studio in 2008. That said, I think it goes a little too hard on the NES difficulty; the game's too in love with death spikes for me to consider it a personal favorite, even if I can see why so many other people do.

This game feels the most middle of the road for Megaman games, two of my friends really like it for how 'challenging' it is, but I feel like that's not completely worth the higher rating. Its fun though, not as bad as some of the ones I don't like, but also not as good as the ones that I think are better.

MM9 is fine. Heh.

En vez de llamarse megaman debería llamarse mismoman

I'm really confused with this game. Basically, after 8 games they did something I didn't expected: Mega Man 2 2

No, I'm not talking about just the 8-bit graphics. For some reason they decided to literally make this game as equal as MM2 as possible. Mega Man cannot charge/power shot or do the slide, your weapons don't refill after any of the Wily stages, you don't have any of the new items added in MM7 and MM8, half of the bosses have something very similar to some in MM2, some of the songs are exactly the same as in MM2 and you are forced to do all of Wily stages back to back. At least you still have the shop

I don't see much of a point to Proto Man too besides being an extra mode that gives you an achievement on Legacy Collection 2. But it's on the extra modes section, so I don't think is something bad (although I don't like the fact that he cannot access the shop)

It isn't a bad game, far from it. But going back to MM2 (and sometimes even further) after 8 games makes it very underwhelming for me

I still intend to complete Proto Man's campaign, but I'll do this another time since I have some other games on the franchise to complete

This may be the best mega man game ever.
Okay so:
1. The levels are godly they're so well designed and are an absolute joy to play, they're brutally hard but never feel very unfair which always makes me have fun with them and they really help shine a light on how good the weapons are in this game
2. This game has the best selection of weapons in the classic series except for maybe 11 but I'm split on which one is better. They're all (except like Magma Bazooka) in my experience amazing and have so many different situations where they're useful. My preferred way to play is always to do Galaxy Man first since his weapon is insanely useful for like every other level.
3. The bosses are amazing. Every robot master feels fun to fight (shoutout to Tornado Man I love that fight) and the other bosses are great and a super fun challenge to beat
4. THE MUSIC IS SO GOOD just listen to it okay shoutout to Galaxy Man's theme specifically
5. Weird point but I love this games use of colour. It fills out a really nice colour palette in my head with all the robot masters having a distinct colour and their levels having really nice colouration. This is something I get very particular about I don't know why but this game NAILS it
It's peak...

This is truly the culmination of the idea that originated in the seventh generation that "games are no longer as difficult as they used to be" so, they decided to make Mega Man much harder with a strange philosophy that is simply not the same as in the past. That's not a problem for me; I want a classic Mega Man that stands out from the rest. However, I don't think those masochistic spikes are the solution.

But the legacy collection version makes it kinda fun.

A return to basics that excels amazingly at them.

The loss of sliding and the charge shot took me a little to get used to, which honestly wasn't even a problem when the rest of the game was so well designed, as well as perfectly recapturing the vibes of the NES era.

First phase of the final boss may have been the boulder to my Sisyphus, but this was a really fun game.

I hate this game. The whole concept sucks to me. Instead of evolving the series in interesting ways, Mega Man 9 tries to replicate Mega Man 2 by removing features that made later games more fun, such as sliding and charging shots. The issue I take with this is that Mega Man 2 is not the perfect game everyone makes it out to be, but rather one that happens to be very good for it's time, which certainly isn't 2008. Although, considering the Legacy Collection's versions of Mega Man 1 through 6 include sprite flickering and slowdown (both caused by hardware limitation), being stuck in the past seems to be what Mega Man is all about nowadays. They actually went so far as to only have a few sound channels in this game, resulting in the music regularly getting interrupted by sound effects. This, too, is an artifact from the NES era. In addition, the game seems to be made by sadists for masochists who automatically find anything hard extremely fun. While the level design is generally pretty solid, it gets interrupted about every 2 minutes by some dumb trap the devs placed specifically to unexpectedly kill you. They are also way too comfortable with killing you for every single mistake you make. Wily Stage 2, an underwater hellhole full of spikes and multiple near pixel perfect jumps, exemplifies this quite well. Also, you can't save or visit the shop between Wily Stages, which, especially if you didn't know beforehand, makes going through them an absolute pain. In conclusion, this game is stuck in the past and bullshit hard to a degree that, to me, is only really acceptable in games without life systems. I never want to play it again ever.

I still don't get this one tbh. It's meant to be a throw back to MM2 which is why the slide and charge are gone, but at the same time they decided to include the store/screws and at least 1 item from 3-MM&B. So like if they're willing to add all those extra things that weren't in MM2 why not the slide and charge, which are far more iconic to the series then all the items? The "costume" and "hair" items are also such a waste of space that could have been given to some other items like the Rush Adapter or something.
I didn't really get the story either. The robots having "expiration dates" that by law they have to be shut down makes some sense, especially with the museum in previous games. But by the end they seem to have just forgotten this plot point? The credits do show art of the robot masters hanging out with the main cast, but the text never address if they were still being scrapped after or not???
All that being said it's far from a bad game (not a MM8 lol) but definitely not the best classic-style game imo (MM5/7 are still my favorites). I like that the game has built in achievements and while I probably wont check them all out I also liked all the extra modes and challenges, gives the game more replay value.

Top 3 classic mega man, you either see the vision on this one or you don't, really simple as

suffers from trying too hard to replicate mega man 2 to the point of removing the charge and slide that had become standard by this point in the series and going for a few unfair traps especially in the wily stages, however it still stands on its own merits and did wonders for reviving the dormant series and bringing it back to its heyday

Mega Man 9 going back to the NES roots was something I knew about, but I didn't think I'd like it as much as I do. I honestly think this might be my current favourite Mega Man game since it checks off all the boxes and provides an experience that is both unique while staying true to the formula of Mega Man 2. As someone who adores Mega Man 2, it's easy to say the same for this game. The weapon roster is really fun to use, with the situational weapons feeling a lot more useful and enjoyable while the others felt really good to use if I wasn't feeling the Mega Buster. I'm a little sad that the charged Mega Buster and slide were removed, but I understand the intention and it provided some difficult platforming. Despite reverting to Mega Man 2's style, it still has features from other Mega Man games like 7/8's shop, Rush and Eddie from Mega Man 3, and Beat from Mega Man 5. The platforming and levels are also really difficult, but they feel fair and aren't riddled with many moments that I would call stupid, just difficult. Despite having to redo Wily's Castle since I didn't spend my currency prior, I still found it to be pretty fun and gained more of an appreciation for Wily's Castle in this game. Overall, I would say while this game is one of the more difficult games in the series, I find it to be one of the most fair games in terms of its difficulty and it becomes a lot of fun to play as a result.

Designed with a modern sensibility to the point that it feels like a romhack, which is why it's so painful to admit that it's good. It lacks a lot of the teaching moments and the general attitude of restraint that the NES games had: a lot of the gimmicks and stage hazards are introduced as though the player's already familiar with their original iterations and must be served a more demanding variation. What if the Iceman blocks had a more complex pattern? What if Quickman's beams were in a level where you move upwards? The game winks at its fannish audience with all the decorum of a Mario Maker level.

And yet I can't deny that these are some of the most memorable stages in the series, some of the best-paced and most varied. The subweapons, which in some of the later NES games began to feel exclusively useful for exploiting weaknesses, each fill a unique roll here, and the player's naturally encouraged to use all of them in stage traversal. The soundtrack's probably more consistent than any of the classic series games', even if it never quite rises to the height of their better tracks.

Also very pleased to see Inti Creates just backporting their original character into the classic series. I also think Harpuia is cool, guys.

esse é um daqueles jogos q é tão peak q vc sente vontade de chorar

I honestly don't know what people see in this. It is a retrogression for the series, not a 'return to roots'.
Instead of keeping the mechanics and QoL features that made the game better (slide, charge shot, quick weapon switching, being able to fire the mega buster and the other weapon using two different buttons), they just made the game as frustrating as possible for frustration's sake.
I'll admit that some of the bullshit sections can be bypassed by clever use of weapons (mostly the Jewel Satellite), but still the game is littered with spikes and other instakill obstacles.
This would've been excusable if it were an NES game, but this is just stupid.
For fairness' sake, I had some good time and there were a couple of stages that were genuinely good like Galaxy Man, Tornado Man and Splash Woman.
I just hoped for more out of this game, especially considering how everyone says that this is the best Mega Man game.
I can see why it is regarded as such; it maybe has the best bosses in the series, but the issues as mentioned make me reluctant to accept that.
A good Mega Man game nonetheless and I can't really stay mad at the blue guy.
I also liked the inclusion of a female Robot Master and hope they continue to do so.

This is a good game, but a damn frustrating one. The game asks a lot of you execution wise. You often know the answer to a platforming challenge, its just pretty precise so you'll die a fair amount. Its annoying since it just kind of feels hard just to be hard. The weapons are all pretty great. Once I got the laser trident, I pretty much never used the normal buster since its just a straight up upgrade in almost every situation. Mega Man games before this had a charge buster and slide, which aren't in this one for whatever reason. They compensated for the charge shot by having normal buster shots be really strong and move really fast, though not having the slide is just odd since it doesn't really take away from anything. Bosses are fun, though I don't think they're very interesting compared to bosses in 7, 8, and Bass. The game likes to call back to older mega man's but also doesn't really take the great parts of all of them that it could've. The music is great. The levels are fun, if a bit frustrating with the precision required for some parts. The Wily levels are just kind of exhausting since they're so long and you can't save between them. The final boss is super long and right after a boss rush, so that's also a lot. The music is quite incredible. Mega Man feels very fast and powerful. My main problem is that it feels like its hard for the sake of it and not really anything else. Otherwise, great game, but its very exhausting for me to play.

Tries too hard to be like Mega Man 2 imo (by also NOT including sliding and charge buster. Why). It's alright, it has some pretty cool stages but some were really dreadful to me.

6 and this are my two favorite classic games. i love the music from the games levels which are for the most part great. there are some stinkers here (mainly in the wily levels) but it doesn't hurt the game to much as in my opinion the wily levels suck in most of these games. also no slide or charge shot. why do i like this game lol
