More like Megaman 9/11 cause that’s what this game was for good game design

Mega Man 2 but harder and fucking frustrating served a better use of my time than call of duty vanguard

splash woman call me anytime

Nostalgia bait that removes mechanics people liked and thinks placing spikes everywhere or having stages that are enetirely disappearing blocks is what made NES games fun. It isn't. This game isn't "Nintendo hard", it's "bad NES design."

Splash Woman made me realize I may be a lesbian (spoiler alret: I am a lesbian).

this one has more than one woman in it

REALLY good, until the wily stages where the difficulty goes from challenging but fair, to challenging, but fuck you

As a loud and proud Megaman 2 disliker, taking more than a few steps back to the slide and charge shot-less days of the first two games made me really skeptical that I'd like a game deliberately trying to invoke nostalgia for those games. But of course, leave it to the same chefs behind the stellar Zero series to once more cook some gourmet shit with this franchise.

Despite the nerfed moveset, Megaman 9 manages to avoid falling into the same failures of 2 by properly balancing the levels around Rock's capabilities while still making things challenging. Gone are bullet sponge enemies that take eons to defeat with your puny buster disguising how the levels are actually kind of a nothing sandwich; MM9 makes good use of its stage gimmicks, enemies and bosses to test your mettle while still remaining a fair challenge, with some highlights of mine being Hornet Man, Tornado Man, and Jewel Man's stages. MM9 also probably has the best boss roster this side of MM7; every one is fun to fight and even a good, fun challenge to do so buster-only, which is more than I can say for any boss roster in the NES era of Megaman.

Only real problem I have here is that come the Wily Castle the game starts to get a bit too mean with some of its challenges. Nowhere near the same level of sadism as Gate's Lab from X6, but there are some "Fuck You, First Time Player" traps and weirdly designed moments that bring it down. And then the Twin Devil just sucks ass and takes 5,000 years off of my lifespan, although I did appreciate the MMZ reference. That was totally a proto-Rainbow Devil, I see you Inti.

Regardless of the steps back it takes mechanically and some snags near the end, 9 encompasses many lessons learned from its 8-bit brothers to design a tough but fair challenge, and is one of the best classic Megaman games out there, rivaling even MM7 and Bass. High recommend from me.

Terrible. By far the worst classic Mega Man game and a strong contender for the worst game in any Mega Man series. The design choices in this game are profoundly stupid. All of them. The removal of charge and slide, the outrageously slow menus with the same texts being repeated endlessly, the overuse of spikes and jumps that require perfection, among other things.

When it comes to retro games, it's true that they're often associated with high difficulty, but also with well-crafted level design and overall good progression. This game lacks an interesting one. Instead it is repetitive, and excessively frustrating level design. It also amplifies the worst flaws of these retro games like terrible navigation menus. In some cases, it goes beyond that, EXACERBATING these issues. Mega Man 2, for example, was nowhere near as clunky as 9 is.

I'd probably give it an even worse score, but visually, the game has a charm and a few stages are decent. It's a game from 1986 stuck in 2008. But not from a competent developer like Capcom, but rather on the level of bad stuff like LJN games.

Imagine being Capcom and saying "Alright, it's been twelve years since we made Megaman 8, let's make a Megaman game that makes all eight of its predecessors look like jokes"

Many would say Mega Man 9 is a return to form after the first SNES entry with 7 and the wildly unpopular 8. The gap from 8 to 9 is pretty big at 12 years and Inti Creates manages to make a homage to the NES style of Mega Man (specifically 2) that works well with consoles from 2 generations ago but manages to bring back the old pains of the NES games with it.

I can safely say Mega Man 9 has the best tight control and feel of any NES Mega Man game, there's little or completely no lag to movement. The weapons here are easily the best of the NES here with every weapon fulfilling a niche well to a degree other than the Concrete Shot which was used for the bosh rush and occasional stage hazards. Also felt the music here had a lot more going on with Galaxy Man's stage track just being a bop.

With that said, reverting to the NES style of Mega Man was cool but I felt like they took it a bit too far here. The removal of charge shot and slide were mechanics I enjoyed and made certain boss fights more mechanically engaging than just jumping at the right time. Not to mention the abundance of spikes compared to the past entries with some NES titles included made for much more challenging and tricky jumps than before. This game is notorious for its difficulty and it shows. Much less room for mistakes here.

Despite the grievances I have with the game, mostly in terms of the difficulty and removal of gameplay mechanics from the previous titles. This game does manage to bring back some of the classic gameplay that fans of 2 might enjoy and all in all a very solid title. I can see why people why adore this one a lot.

Fucking god I love the robot masters and their weapon lineup so much, and how using them is essential with surviving how tough levels can be. Fuck yeah man.

Played through Mega Man Legacy Collection 2

WOW! For a game I didn't care that much when I first beat it, mostly because of the lack of the slide and the charged shot, Mega Man 9 really surprised me after replaying it, it has a certain level of creativity that is pretty rare to see in the franchise, one of the best selection of weapons in the entire series, a banger OST even for MM standards, great levels, very memorable and fun bosses (except for you, Twin Devil!), and a high difficulty while still being very rewarding and fair to beat... At least most of the time, the game still has some questionable design choices here and there, but not nearly as much as some say, and I only saw 2 troll moments during my entire gameplay, while other games in the series like Mega Man 2 has way more. Overall, I had an amazing time playing Mega Man 9, and it's possibly my new favorite game from the classic series.

Safadeza fazer o jogo no estilo NES, devíamos ter tido um no estilo do MegaMan 11 bem antes, só não dou nota menor pois gostei dos chefes.

A clear love letter to the Mega Man franchise, that feels like it was made for fans who have been playing since the very first release in 1987 (i.e. not me)

This is one of the most disappointing games in my life

Though I don't like the weapon balancing (there is little reason to use any weapons besides than Jewel Satellite, Black Hole Bomb, and Laser Trident) I do find the roster itself to be decent regardless, more than I thought so originally at that, the music is great as always, and I really like the cinematics... but the difficulty is all over the place. The stages are annoyingly peppered with spikes or other insta-kill paths, while the bosses have painfully dull and predictable patterns that are able go down with ease even in buster-only scenarios. Sure, exceptions exist, but overall this is just how 9 is

But whatever, all that said the game was still decent... but then the Wily sections start and the good qualities it had immediately faded away for having the worst parts of the stages and difficulty be more prevalent than ever, especially with Wily's last phase doing more damage to YOU than you can do to HIM, even with the right strat and mindset.

Hardest game in the Classic series yet also the most tightly and rewardingly designed. This is peak platformer design, especially on Superhero.

The Wily Castle stages are absolutely painful

This may be the best mega man game ever.
Okay so:
1. The levels are godly they're so well designed and are an absolute joy to play, they're brutally hard but never feel very unfair which always makes me have fun with them and they really help shine a light on how good the weapons are in this game
2. This game has the best selection of weapons in the classic series except for maybe 11 but I'm split on which one is better. They're all (except like Magma Bazooka) in my experience amazing and have so many different situations where they're useful. My preferred way to play is always to do Galaxy Man first since his weapon is insanely useful for like every other level.
3. The bosses are amazing. Every robot master feels fun to fight (shoutout to Tornado Man I love that fight) and the other bosses are great and a super fun challenge to beat
4. THE MUSIC IS SO GOOD just listen to it okay shoutout to Galaxy Man's theme specifically
5. Weird point but I love this games use of colour. It fills out a really nice colour palette in my head with all the robot masters having a distinct colour and their levels having really nice colouration. This is something I get very particular about I don't know why but this game NAILS it
It's peak...

the best one

dr. wily was kinda right too but only kinda because he still sucks, but then again him sucking and being manipulative is probably what spared these poor robots

splash woman rules

This is truly the culmination of the idea that originated in the seventh generation that "games are no longer as difficult as they used to be" so, they decided to make Mega Man much harder with a strange philosophy that is simply not the same as in the past. That's not a problem for me; I want a classic Mega Man that stands out from the rest. However, I don't think those masochistic spikes are the solution.

But the legacy collection version makes it kinda fun.

Replayed this today just to make sure and yep, it whips ass. Maybe the best weapon set in the series. No charge beam making an annoying as hell noise. Slide I could live with having but it's mostly a nothing mechanic so whatever. Fucked up levels full of traps and puzzles to cheat your wya past with the right weapons. I need to check a few others to see if this one's my actual favorite but it's like, top 3 at least.

Messed up that they just murder the robots once they finished with them though. Probably why there were like 8 different apocalypses in this timeline

literal peak megaman if you disagree you already drank the koolaid bro... wonderful level design (tornado man's platforms, the birds in concrete man's stage are megaman screen scrolling chaos incarnate and plug man's arduous disappearing block section all come to mind) a point of contention i see is megaman not having a slide or a charge, to that i say play proto man and quit crying. a slick gaming challenge and what migfht be the best game in the classic series (cant decide between this 8 or 10) just because a game is unfair or challenging does not make it bad

My buddy from High School is a huge Mega Man fan, and I decided to check out the series after recommending it to me. It's a fun series, even though the games can be a bit difficult and fun. While MM1 is hard, MM9 is on the same level since it goes back to its OG MM roots. There are traps during stages that are murder, and some features in the previous MM games are removed which is a bit mixed for me. But overall, this was fun despite how difficult it was.

i seriously did not think it could get worse than mm3. this game felt like watching my wife get fucked in front of me. this game felt like those youtuber prank videos where they like pretend to kill their friend's mom and their friend is crying while everyone is laughing when they reveal she's alive. this game feels like the episode of icarly where they made gibby brush his teeth with mustard and say long words. this game is misery

I still don't get this one tbh. It's meant to be a throw back to MM2 which is why the slide and charge are gone, but at the same time they decided to include the store/screws and at least 1 item from 3-MM&B. So like if they're willing to add all those extra things that weren't in MM2 why not the slide and charge, which are far more iconic to the series then all the items? The "costume" and "hair" items are also such a waste of space that could have been given to some other items like the Rush Adapter or something.
I didn't really get the story either. The robots having "expiration dates" that by law they have to be shut down makes some sense, especially with the museum in previous games. But by the end they seem to have just forgotten this plot point? The credits do show art of the robot masters hanging out with the main cast, but the text never address if they were still being scrapped after or not???
All that being said it's far from a bad game (not a MM8 lol) but definitely not the best classic-style game imo (MM5/7 are still my favorites). I like that the game has built in achievements and while I probably wont check them all out I also liked all the extra modes and challenges, gives the game more replay value.

Top 3 classic mega man, you either see the vision on this one or you don't, really simple as
