Looking past the fact that this game has been seen as a meme since 2018, it is a good game. I return to Fortnite every so often and whilst playing it constantly does get stale, it still is fun to play in smaller bursts with new seasons bringing new areas on the map, a rotation of items and consumables, and gaming mechanics. Although, many times there are vastly overpowered season-exclusive weapons that feel very irritating to play against. Having a no-build mode available was one of the best additions to this game, and the updated graphical engine has also made the game much more visually pleasing.
super predatory store and battlepass funded by fomo and is essentially only popular because it jumped on the battle royale bandwagon at the right time on top of becoming the crossover video game, but it's at least fun 50% of the time which is 50% more than most games that make it this big. lore is pretty insane and I wish pack leader highwire was real but it just feels super souless and intentionally marketable outside of there being probably like 2-4 guys on the whole dev team working on the story who're having the time of their lives. unreal tournament probably died for this but I'll take it over most viral game slop
A hard to review game since it's always changing - but that might be one of its greatest strengths. A genuinely fun experience that constantly changes and evolves not just in the Battle Royale department, but across other modes as well.
It might have popularized the Battle Pass trend, which has become tired across numerous titles, but its pass has remained the best. 8 full cosmetic sets plus 1500 vbucks (500 more than it costs to aquire, meaning that a single purchase of the pass could set you for life) is quite a deal.
The gameplay of Battle Royale hardly gets old, and with cross platform play for every modern gaming system, it's the perfect game to play with friends. Whether you just want to goof off with the lighthearted and at times silly nature of the game, or genuinely try to win it will often offer a very good time. Getting a "Victory Royale" is always a hype moment regardless of how many times you've done it before.
The only complaint I could muster is that it, like many live service games, is very reliant on FOMO. Battle pass items are season exclusive, and many people have that one thing they missed out on. The item shop also employs FOMO, with some items not returning for over a thousand days which prompts people to purchase rarer items the moment they return. Not the biggest deal, but certainly one that keeps the game from perfection.

Played once when it came out
Died over and over to 10 y/o kids
Never played since. Despite a ton of bizarre and funny additions, I still haven't taken the urge to try it again. Not a fan of """battle royale""" games to begin with, and with the Epic Games store not having any other games I'm interested in, it'll just be a waste of storage space.
