Somehow out of every franchise they own, Guardians of the Galaxy has always oddly had a very solid track record when it comes to great adaptations. From James Gunn's excellent MCU Trilogy, to now Eidos Montreal's AAA 2021 release, the people who work on this franchise seem to know how exactly to always portray these characters while also making them feel Seperate from all the other incarnations of them. The heart and soul of this game is the story which is absolutely fantastic, hilarious, and heartwarming all the way through as is every Guardians story should, but what else would you expect from the same studio who gave us equally excellent stories with the Deus Ex games. Soundtrack is another really important aspect of the game, and the game finds a great selection of songs that invokes exactly what Guardians of the Galaxy is without really repeating any music used in the MCU Trilogy of films, doubly impressive as this game came out before Vol. 3 and yet STILL has no crossover songs. Of course Gameplay is important too, and while not the most revolutionary thing out there, Gameplay is incredibly solid, and while at first it may be disappointing that you ONLY play as Peter Quill with the other Guardians assisting via special ability prompts you choose for them, it still works incredibly well that it doesn't feel tedious at all when you have back to back battles some of the time. This is such a warm welcome and change of pace from Square's piss poor attempt at an Avengers Live Service disaster. I can't recommend Guardians of the Galaxy enough. If you're even the smallest most casual fan of GotG, I can't say enough good things about this game. It's a must play for anyone.
Whips ass from beginning to rocking end. Even if it feels clearly unpolished, the holistic experience is nothing short of astounding. Features what clearly is some of the best writing ever committed to a videogame, and has so many tricks up its sleeve that, what could've been a simply fun and forgettable universe-saving adventure, gets turned into an enchanting roller-coaster of surprises and emotions. Wish I'd grabbed it back when it released. I would've happily paid full price for it.
this was pretty good solid combat decent story I am bit tired of these types of games though so i really didn't care for walk for a while fight a bit walk some more fight some more the passing just was not there for me but 100% if this came out during the uncharted era of games people would be awarding it left and right

Not quite on the level of Insomniac's Spider-Man but still a pretty fun time. The combat isn't exactly amazing but it's serviceable and gets pretty fun once you unlock more abilities, although the boss fights are mostly lame and very easy. The story probably won't blow you away but it's enough to keep your attention and it does land many of the emotional and comedic beats. It's a very gorgeous game, some of the shots, especially the ones in space were amazing to look at. The soundtrack was excellent, and the voice acting was also very good. My favorite part however, was the interaction between the cast. The bond they have is genuine and it develops in a way that actually makes sense, and their bantering and bickering never got old for me. There are some bugs unfortunately, and I've encountered bugs that had me stuck inside walls multiple times, but other than that, the performance was pretty great and smooth.
To sum it up, it's good, but not quite great, because a lot of the mechanics and the storyline lacks certain things that would make it stand out, but they absolutely nailed the characters by combining the comic book and MCU personalities into one, and really, the heart is what matters in Guardians of the Galaxy related material.

I continue to want to like the Guardians as a character set, but never really seem able to. The story is, from the first hour or two, kinda meh (and in an action game, if it hasn't grabbed be by then, I'm not pressing forward), and the gameplay just feels very simplistic. No part of it really feels like a standout.
HOLY SHIT this game was so much better compared to that Avengers.
Super interesting gameplay style where you control your groups to combine a unique blend of attacks when confronting enemies. As you progress further in the story, the game puts your through riveting flashbacks to remember and learn new powers/features for your gun which add even more variety to the different combinations of attacks and makes the gameplay so dynamic.
The game does a good job of capturing the essence of these characters, and fully delineates them in a way that has you reminiscent of why you love them so much. Much of the world is seriously stunning, the visual fidelity (especially that dog model) just devours your eyes and adds to the immersion of the game.
Such a good experience and I couldn't recommend it more.

This game encompasses everything enjoyable about the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. The presentation, production values, banter between the crew, and world building are all top-notch. Honestly, the banter approaches legendary status and sets the bar for party-based games going forward. Drax and Mantis are particular standouts.
As for gameplay, I was sold when I found out you only control Peter and direct the other Guardians, rather than it being a co-op experience. Everyone has a unique move set and they are all useful. Outside of combat, there is platforming, minor exploration, and numerous action scenes reminiscent of the Uncharted series. Also, you will make choices that affect certain scenes. Early on, you sell a “monster” to a collector and what you choose drastically affects what happens.
The game isn’t perfect though. The story gets a little too weird for my taste and it drags on towards the end. I also encountered small glitches that forced me to reload checkpoints. Nevertheless, if you have an affinity for the movies, playing this game is a no-brainer.

Score: 84/100
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy was definitely the biggest surprise of 2021 and that is mainly due to the quality of its narrative. Emotional, funny, and intriguing, the story was the thing pushing me through the simple, fun, but repetitive gameplay towards the later stages of the game. Two other major highlights of the game are the phenomenal soundtrack which combines an original score, an original band and some of the best songs from the 70s and 80s to create one of the best soundtracks all year. The other thing is the art direction. The game is stunning. Thats it really. If you cant get past the repetitive and sometimes boring gameplay, I highly recommend this game.
