Absolutely incredible DLC. This hit me even harder than the original game.

A Pokémon game that I actually enjoyed?! Yeah, idk why, but this one really entertained me. I usually really don't like Pokémon, but this one pulled it off. I respect that.

BANGER SOUNDTRACK, OH MY GOD!!! What a god damn jam.

Oh and the game itself is nice too xD
I loved the movement and the crisp pixel graphics. The Messenger also features stellar writing that actually made me care about dialogue boxes in a 2D platformer - how crazy is that?! I really enjoyed the first traditional platformer half of the game, but the linear nature of most of the game's areas are also a reason as to why I am a bit split on the Metroidvania part of the Messenger. Long linear paths just don't synergise well with an open Metroidvania progression. That's why I feel like there should be more quicktravel portals, as it got pretty annoying by the end to go through the same linear paths over and over again.

A very solid 2D platformer. Kirby Planet Robobot features enjoyable theming and music, as well as generally pleasant gameplay.

It's simple fun - no more and no less, basically exactly what you'd expect a Kirby game to be like

This is Nintendo at their greediest

DKC is the most "alright" platformer I have ever played. It's visuals, music and gameplay have all aged incredibly well and it's just fun to play for a while. But it also isn't really anything more than that for me. Kind of the video game equivalent to a burger. You consume it every once in a while, you're fine with it, but it's just a burger, a form of simple entertainment.

One of the most satisfying gameplay loops I have ever had the joy of experiencing

Being someone who adores Rayman Origins and Legends as well as 3D platformers, I thought I would love Rayman Revolution: "A 3D Rayman platformer? I have to like this!"

But I really didn't. Sure, the worlds are fun, colourful and creative, just as you'd expect. And the game looks phenomenal for its time. The controls are great when you play the normal sections and the game has a dreamlike but also dark/serious (compared to other Rayman games) atmosphere.

However, the vehicle and sliding sections are horrible and awkward to control. It's like the game is actively fighting against me. And the leveldesign is a bit boring in my opinion.

Idk aybe Origins's and Legends's insane senses of flow spoiled me to the point that I have way too high expectations for a Rayman game in the regard of how Rayman feels to control.

The sheer quality of AM2R is insane. Seriously, this is a fangame, yet they got so many things right! Samus feels amazing to control, the soundtrack fits the atmosphere and they overhauled so many things to modernise Metroid II while still staying true to it.

However, this latter part, staying true to Metroid II is what hindered my enjoyment with AM2R a bit. There aren't any huge places to get lost in, it's usually very clear where you need to go, because AM2R is split up into so many small areas, which makes exploration a lot less satisfying than Super Metroid or Metroid Dread.

Oh and the Metroid fights are also very awkward, which is kind of a bummer if you consider that you fight them over and over again.

Nevertheless, you can truly feel how much love was poured into AM2R and I deeply respect that.

2016

ABZÛ looks, sounds and feels amazing. But that's pretty much it. Yes, it achieves everything it sets out to do with its amazing atmosphere and design, but there isn't enough game here in this video game for me. It is a perfect game to write a term paper on though, trust me, I'm talking from experience here.

Screw this game, oh my god, it's so sadistic. Lost levels? More like get lost, levels!

This is my favourite Mario 64 ROM Hack. An oldie, but a goodie. The level design still holds up today and it's just fun to see all of the game's wacky worlds.

I probably like this one the most, because it doesn't deviate a lot from the normal Mario 64 experience. No crazy gimmicks or anything. Just a lot of fun new stars to collect.

WarioWare is always a blast! And this one features so many minigames, it's almost addicting with the amount of content - or so I thought. See, I played through it, but never felt like coming back. I really don't know why. Maybe it's missing some of the retro charm of WarioWare Inc.. I've had my fun nonetheless tho.

Super Paper Mario is so... weird. The characters, the worlds, the atmosphere, everything seems so unlike a Mario game. And yet it is. Combining 2D platforming gameplay with RPG mechanics is also just... weird. There are so many weird experiments in this game, which is something that Nintendo is usually barely ever willing to do with Mario games. Sure, not every weird idea is going to stick or work out, but I respect the attempt, since Super Paper Mario is a far more interesting game because of it.

A revolutionary game that I just can't play anymore these days. The fact that the game's controls are unbearable for me really show how far platformers have come over the years. An absolute classic, sure, but I don't enjoy playing it.
