Ib most likely fits. The title character is still young and when you read the titles/descriptions of the paintings at the museum you start in, some words will be rendered as ??? because she doesn't know what they mean.

Actually, as an adult, the protagonist of Dragon Quest V can read stuff, even when he is alone
