Outlast looks and sounds amazing, but it relies too much on jumpscares and chase sequences to stay scary for its entire runtime.
I think the Whistleblower expansion DLC addressed some of these issues effectively and is a better game overall.

i don't have most of the complaints as the popular narrative does bc i didn't play the og and don't care to, but this 1000% could've been better with like, ONE more area/puzzle set/character/plot thread--anything! but I still loved kicking ass with jill & carlos :)

More Resi 7, but with less boat (epic), but with more insane lore that caused them to soft reboot in the first place (not epic). It's a great time, but if you're not deep in the RE lore pit the last quarter is mind numbing.

shamelessly under-watched game. Cool bosses, an interesting mix of semi-open world and linear missions. Cool combat and stealth. TEW2 and RE7/8 probably some of the best horror games out there in recent years (ignoring re2 and re3 remakes)

My gut is that I prefer RE7 and 2R, but this is absolutely a classic with a really terrific structure and tons of cool ideas. They did a lot to make this feel really distinct within the series and it's all the better for it.

Ethan is the dumbest character ever conceived. I love him.

Honestly pretty great! What a smart handling of the episodic format.

The first Resident Evil I ever played. Solid game with a decent story.

This game blows Revelations 1 out of the water. I actually enjoy the new characters, and Barry Burton is probably one of my favorite characters to play as next to Leon and Jill. Everything's improved, even with the partner character serving a unique purpose that couldn't have just been added to the main character. Plus Raid mode is a major improvement and no longer feels like the tedious grind it was in Revelations 1. I hope to see Barry again and his family of zombie busters, they were a welcome addition to the franchise.

If you're just getting into Resident Evil just as I was, Resident Evil Revelations 2 is definitely up there on what games you should be playing.

Segregating each episode into bisected timelines, following the trail of the previous half, allowed for the opportunity to reimagine one of the series' staples: backtracking. Never once did traversing repeated areas in a different timeline was the experience squandered because of it - if anything, the progression of the twisted story, enemy variety, insight, & sight seeing was enhanced thanks to it. Different character pairs felt beyond natural & each respective companion aided in every scenario. The "zapping" system, while perhaps a bit too subtle for it's own good (& could have been explored even further), is a wonderful addition & the dynamic results in something more playful than anything detrimental. Unlike Rev1, the new characters, while sloppily written at times, are wonderfully explored with interesting developments that no longer act as shells of action hero tropes. There's a specific sense of intimacy involved with the duo system, particularly during the slower portions, which is something one admittedly does not feel with previous entries with similar mechanics. The simulationist level design that RE in known for incorporates more immediate verticality & the pairs work off of this aspect beautifully.

Quite the unrealized potential of balancing in some halves of episodes as well. For example, while Barry's portion in Ep3 is somewhat lackluster in comparison to Claire's, the latter's portion in Ep4 ends far too soon & is especially underwhelming seeing as the former's has what is arguably one of the most stand out eleventh hour in the franchise. I would even argue that this imbalance could have been further explored & even remedied in each episode rather than just the last 2. With that said, b2b, the latter 2 episodes are outstanding regardless & work particularly well played in one fell swoop. On a small note as well, I personally could have done with some logic puzzles in-between the combat, stealth, & exploration.

Extremely underrated gem here. Barring some questionable non-diegetic RPG-lite elements or wonky delivery of key story reveals, the episodes are not only delightfully engaging to play, the overall writing & pacing of the story as a whole being something to revel in, & every new mechanic is properly implemented throughout.

Helps that the rain falling from the clouds is laced in surrealism that comes from the one true king of the genre. I may break the rules & pass thru the gate.

I finished the game some time ago, I liked it but not every bit of it. Invisible enemies are a pet peeve of mine, I just do not like the concept of them at all. Especially when they are placed in a narrow path in an escape sequence you have to finish before a timer runs out. I liked most of the gameplay though, the characters and the story are surprisingly not bad. The endboss was fun and not frustrating, which I liked. Now I hope for a continuation of the story in a third game of the revelations series. I also tried the extra episodes where you play only as Moira and only as Natalia, but did not finish them because I did not like them at all.
