A game that's been perfectly crafted in all regards.

I've honestly lost count of how many hours I put into this. Putting aside the gargantuan and awe-inspiring open world and the epic story, the reason why this game became my favorite game of all time is because of Arthur Morgan, who is the greatest protagonist I've ever seen in a video game. I loved playing as him and his redemption is so powerful. I've rarely cried in a video game, but everytime I play this, I cry my eyes out. Rockstar made a masterpiece and for me it's going to be hard to top this one.

Okay, you can't dress Link up like a girl in this one. But a cutscene of him being grabbed by mechanical tentacles happens multiple times and that's probably the next best thing for you people.

Link tearing through the lands of Hyrule on the shit that killed Shinzo Abe

You guys spent $70 on Bad Piggies

(6-year-old's review, typed by her dad)

I met a goat guy 3 times. He had a long beard and I just felt weird.

[Dad's note: She had her tonsils out the same day TotK came out, so she was in a semi-delirious state when she insisted on reviewing the game. I was very impressed that she still managed to get through a couple shrines on her own!]

I still don't really get the chat about this being short. Maybe people want everything to be 60 hours these days, but it was just a nice length for me.

As fun as it is, much of it feels like just a half-step up from the last game. Which makes sense of all the "It's basically DLC" patter, as disingenuous as it was. Now it's been a good two and a half years since I played the last one, so maybe I'm misremembering, but combat and traversal felt pretty much exactly the same. That's not a bad thing, mind you.

Miles is the stand out for me. Such a good dude, still hurting, still wanting to keep his city safe. Struggling with inadequacy and doubt over not being "The Real Spider-Man".

The plot however is just fine. It's not terrible or anything, but Spider-Man in general seems to have that recurring thing of "The masked baddie is actually someone very close to you" and ye can see it comin' a mile off every time. And of course they'll come to their senses late enough to sacrifice themselves because they've done far too much bad shit for even the best writers to wring a redemption out of it.

Overall though it's a decent time. Still a bit too much of the auld "Gather these things scattered across the city to be drip-fed lore" but hey, dat's videogames baby!

The Game: "We have this villain who has a personal connection to Miles but she wants to take down this big corporation, who has been endangering people with their products, through aggressive means"

Me: "wait isn't that a good thing why are we fighting her"

The game: frantically shuffles papers "Uh, um... uh, she also wants to destroy Miles' neighbourhood, go fight her :)"

The 'all skills' trophy never popped even tho I have all skills. 0/10 worst game of all time.

6/10

the Devil May Cry of Spider-man games regarding the combat, it's amazing the variety of things you can do beating the ass of some goons
the rest of the game is pretty mid, but enjoyable at least

Absolutely worth playing! Combat is great with plenty of depth, the story is solid, and travelling across the open world and checking off things to do comes naturally during regular play.

Definitely check it out if you have a PS4.

Sucker Punch succeeds in making a better Assassin's Creed than Ubisoft...
As an Assassin's Creed fan, I've always wanted an AC game set in Japan. Well, we finally got it, and it's leagues better than any actual AC game we've gotten in years.

Sucker Punch takes the open world checklist formula and absolutely streamlines it in a way that makes it feel like you're never actually doing a checklist. Every collectible has value and is actually fun to get. Fast travel is the easiest it's been in any other open world game, so jumping around to get a missed collectible is quick. The world design is what encourages exploration, not just the need to find the next question mark on the map.

I've played over a dozen games with photo modes in them and have never really cared much for them. I'll usually open it once to look at it and snap one obligatory photo, and then never touch it again.
In Ghost of Tsushima, I spent almost as much time taking photos as I did actually playing the game. That's due to a combination of the most insanely robust photo mode I've ever seen in a game, and a very photogenic gorgeous world.

Playing through Act 1, the story felt like it took the back seat to the world. I was enjoying running around, exploring, and fighting off the invaders.
That quickly took a turn in Act 2 and I became fully invested in not only Jin's story, but the stories of all of his companions.
After a slight lull in the beginning of Act 3, it finishes strong.

Really the only negative I have on the game is that it doesn't really do anything new. It truly does feel like they set out to make a better Assassin's Creed than Ubisoft - and that's exactly what they did. The world is gorgeous, it's fun to explore, getting collectibles isn't boring, the combat is fun, and the story is great, but it all feels incredibly safe.
It's a solid 4-star game that I wish took a couple more risks.

the performance makes me want to cry but its a great Star Wars game and a great story. Will raise it half a star if they fix the pc port
