I miss the simple days so fuckin' bad.

christ alive this felt like dlc that somehow escaped low orbit of it's mother game. are you fucking kidding me there's NO fucking music? like sure haha your fucking musical number was hilarious WHERE'S THE RADIO. WHERE IS IT.

pretty much more of the same from 3 - the intro mission of your first day as president is worth a chuckle, and the basic gameplay loop of bombing around looking for power orbs like it's crackdown colored purple is fun, but it really was distanced from the original conceit of the series by now. gone are the days of street level gang warfare, washed away in uproar, left standing is a ripped demigod wielding a floppy plastic cock as a baseball bat and flinging lightning from their fist, flying through the streets to Riff Raff talking up the next dubstep song on the radio. I miss the simple days dude.

I played this thing to 100% and honestly. I wish they stuck closer to the first two lol. characters and plot and whatnot is fine, a few bits here and there that fall flat, couple jokes don't work, quite a few parts aged like milk. dick punch button was novel though.

the king. the boss. the big poppa. if you play any crime game ever, you play this one. fun loving without being obnoxious, serious when it has to be. All three gang's stories will stay with me forever. highs and lows. friends made and lost. enemies crushed to nothing. the hidden mission to close the book on [redacted] from SR1. jesus god.

so many little things from here I miss in the rest of the franchise. remember septic avenger? come on dude that would've ruled

fascinating to see how it differed from other GTA clones of the era and what it started as before the series went absolutely insane. you could take out LOANS for fuck's sake.

god I've bought so many copies of this game, it needed a sequel so bad

They need to take gtav out and finally fucking shoot her

The longer I spend away from this game the less I find to like about it. I liked the protagonists I guess. Trevor was far and away my favorite. A couple good story beats here and there, Trevor bawling his eyes out to "If You Leave Me Now" while driving [redacted] home was the funniest part of it all I think. The game being mostly about heists was fun

GTA Online was a fucking mistake

PC is the optimal way to play this because that last mission where you're chasing [redacted] in a [redacted] through the streets of Los Angeles with the serial number filed off was only enhanced with the custom radio station blasting hsrdstyle

If someone tells you their favorite GTA is vice city you wife them on the spot

I played this game so fucking much dog

RE4 is an incredible game that also starts the darkest era of the series, being the blueprint for 5 and 6 as well as Operation Raccoon City and Umbrella Corps. A king with a pitch black crown.

If I ever had a complaint about this game it might be I'm just not a fan of bug enemies in games and so the entire underground cave shit after [redacted] gets got does nothing for me.

Playing this shit enough to new game plus my way to relative godhood was a ride, and I'll always remember running from Salazar's Right Hand, this seemingly invincible beast on God's forsaken Earth, on my first playthrough to eradicating him as if he were the last smoke in the pack on every run after will ring in my heart until the day I draw my last breath.

Valhalla is just you knife fighting Krauser forever with occasional breaks for lunch

Well ichiban you fucking manchild you sold me on Yakuza the RPG

I got this the day it came out and almost called out of work to play it. Y7 rules, can't wait to see them expand on the RPG mechanics in 8 and onward.

Ichiban was already a favorite on first reveal but after spending the whole game with him and his pals he's only grown into that slot more. Everyone in the party is a great time, all the classes were pretty fun to fool around with, and there's a primal joy in early game using a massager as a bat for ichiban. Fights having everyone wandering around each other gives it a little more active quality as you can try to maximize collateral damage waiting for idiots to line up or crowd around. The dub seems fine but I play all these Japanese first so I'm not the authority on how George Takei did or anything.

Story is intense the whole way through, and ends on a note where you'll be gripping the arms of your chair until 8 hits. Here's to many more with ichiban.

Finding out how many songs they removed for the American version was nothing short of treason

The first of the Dragon Engine games I think and it shows - an entire block of Kamurocho is just gone. Narratively it works - in a city as tumultuous as this, watching it change over the years as we do, there will ultimately come a time when you will not get to watch it complete a metamorphosis.... But also they were still figuring out the engine so lol.

Wild how half the supporting cast of the series thus far is just almost completely absent this time. It puts the spotlight on this being kiryu's swan song I suppose, but it would've been nice to see a few specific folks at a few specific scenes. In a series with some crazy fucking twists and turns, they really wanted to make sure they had you by the balls this time.

Beat Takeshi was a pleasure to see. The Hiroshima cast really grows on you quickly. See you later, kiryu.

I would love to replay this some time with a person who knows a fucking thing about idols

Y5 is, I've often heard, comparable in scope and magnitude to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It's packed to the fucking lungs with shit to do. Everyone's got a side hustle on top of their own trainings and takes on the existing minigames. I got in more random encounter fights in the first kiryu chapters than I did in most of Yakuza 6. There's a celebrity chef who teaches you how to eat food better. Kiryu alone can become the king of the road in between cab driving. In the first 3 chapters alone you will bare witness to the greatest fight scene in the entire franchise. By the end you'll have heard so many good lines you'll be sick to death of hearing yourself say "oh god DAMN".

The idol stuff is a fun little concept but honestly as already overloaded as this game is? They needed to expand on it more. You'll play "So Much More!" as Haruka enough times that you'll be able to the fucking dance yourself.

Saejima's ass breaking out of jail as the opening act in both games you play as him is nothing short but the funniest thing in the whole franchise. Akiyama once again just wants to take a nap. Shinada being so in love with the fucking concept of baseball that any time you pick up a bat in combat he just gently tucks it into bed where you found it is hilarious, especially when it gets me killed. I also love shinada just being the beloved whorehouse reporter, he could have been way sleazier throughout but he just loves his fucking job.

4 and 5's finales are alarmingly similar in structure. Like copied your friend's homework and getting yelled at for it similar. God could you imagine being an American fan and fighting tooth and nail to get even the pittance that was the digital release of 5 on PS3 and then it ends with [redacted] and not knowing if you'd ever get to play 6

Man remember when they had to entirely change Tanimura's face and VA hopefully we never have that issue again in the Ryu Ga Gotoku franchise

The three new dudes all have interesting combat styles, I've been told I'm a lunatic for liking Saejima's. I guess in 4 he's not nearly as unrelenting as he is in 5 (where his strength gets. A little silly.). Akiyama really just wants to be left the hell alone and I can appreciate that the more bullshit happens in this universe. I already knew one of the big twists about 4 going in - you know the fucking one - and I don't think it it takes away too much from the plot. It's idiotic but it like. Doesn't negate [redacted]'s role in it or immediately take away the hurt from it all. Toughest final boss of the goddamn franchise bar none, armor the team twink is all I'm gonna say.
