i've seen this game described as "a spin-off disguised as a main series entry", and...honestly, yeah. it's INCREDIBLY fun and certainly hits a high 9 (better than GV1 i think), and the character interactions are great...but it does nothing with 2's dangling plot threads. at all.
if you don't care about the story though? this or iX1 is probably gonna be your favorite because the gameplay is top-notch. there's also plenty of postgame content to go through, and lots of replayability thanks to the wide variety of image pulses you can obtain
overall i'm hard-pressed to call myself fully disappointed with this game. it's a misstep sure, but not one as severe as iX2 (which, granted, i still gave a solid 8/10). my only hope is that DLC or gunvolt 4 will wrap all of 2's plot threads together in a tidy bow, but i'm still willing to trust what inti's cooking for now.

HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE YOU SINCE I BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY COMPLEX. IF THE WORD HATE WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL FOR STICKER STAR AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT. FOR THIS GAME. HATE. HATE.

i sat down and spent 130 hours playing this, after witnessing adoration and loathing for this game on the internet in pretty equal amounts, and i gotta say
i'm 100% in the former camp. i'm mostly a fan of other megaten games more than persona (having only played P4G) but i can safely say this blows digital devil saga 2 and even nocturne out of the water for me. genuinely a masterpiece

this is such a weirdly conflicting game because i really hate the rushed business model the mainline games take and it shows no more than with SV, between their bizarre glitches, framedrops, and graphical issues. that said though, i really fucking enjoy this game a lot and it's the most compelling a pokemon game's really been storywise since SM, if they stick with the open world formula and are actually allowed time to refine their next game and work out all the kinks (IMMENSELY optimistic) then pokemon could be heading in a really good direction

this is easily the weirdest of the gunvolt games, the gameplay's changed up significantly from copen's appearances in GV2 and iX, and i don't think i can outright say if it was for the better or for worse. while it's still fun and allows for a few platforming challenges, i don't really like how copen's old gameplay is locked behind getting 1000 kudos which means you're pretty much stuck without it on hard mode
speaking of hard mode, this is the first game to have one since GV1, and they actually locked plot elements behind it. as someone who plays these games pretty hardcore anyway, i didn't mind, but the final boss is extremely tedious on hard while being able to kill you easily, which i dislike
the plot itself is probably the weirdest part of the game, there's a lot of implications from the end that this could actually be the main gunvolt timeline or some similar timeline far into the future. this is due to multiple factors, particularly mother phase 1 using EX weapons from GV2 such as hailstorm blade and broad circuit, and of course the blatant fact that mother and her creator are alternate versions of lola and copen. outside of that, though, the story doesn't have as much impact as any of the other entries, which is a bit disappointing
overall i think it's actually a bit worse than gunvolt 1, but as one of the weirdos who ranks it at a solid 9/10 that doesn't mean iX2 is bad
