Franks 2023 shout outs
I played a lot of things this year but I didn’t play a lot of NEW stuff so let me give praise to games that I played this year no particular order

Honestly really nice of them to make a fun simple game with a charming sense of humor likable characters and just a strong solid focus on what it wanted to be
This is probably the best postal game, while I don’t want to shit on postal 4 I found it to be postal 2 but just worse while this was a fast paced movement shooter that was satisfying to control and frankly less offensive than the other games lol
This game has been my brainworms for so long while playing it and after playing it
I didn’t want the adventure to end, was such a beautiful game and is on my list of favorite games of all time as of now

I haven’t played it yet but I heard good things and I wanted to shout out to a indie jrpg that loves the genre as much as I do
Played this one couple years late but had addicting time even if some of it was unfair lol
Haven’t BEATEN the game which is why I didn’t review it like the first one, but the insane improvement this indie game has especially from the first is amazing and props to them adding cool female characters because that was an issue I had in the first game
Started rance one of the longest running eroge series ever and I had a fun time with the gameplay and also trying to solve the puzzles of how to get every sex scene
Gameplay is worse than 1 because it’s more a direct remaster of 2 than a full remake like 01 but the humor is way funnier because rance actually has characters to bounce off of
03 remake isn’t translated yet but that’s fine the OG is very charming and also funny like the second game
Hopefully the gameplay will get better but the worldbuilding and continuity between each game does grow on you,
I don’t know if it will be peak like fans of the series say it is but I am having fun so can’t wait to play the games in the series with GOOD gameplay lol

I went on a Lisa fan game marathon after replaying the rereleases of painful and joyful, and I have to say what a great community to make something because they loved a little indie game so much and even if they aren’t all on the same level as pointless or hopeful, still admirable to make something out of passion
The writing of this game is better than the OG don’t @ me and also fan creators don’t seem to hate jrpgs like the OG creator does exited for its sequel
The artstyle of this game is BEAUTIFUL
And the dynamics between the main two characters is fun can’t wait for it to be finished hopefully

Beat ys 1, playing 2 which is funny because X takes place after 2 chronologically I also beat ys 9 but it’s ok it’s like a bland version of 8
With a bloated and kinda uninteresting cast compared to 8 and other games in the series
Glad X is focusing on young adol and cool Viking girl who’s NOT gonna be adols love interest for once I swear to god thank you which may deal with both the over abundance of girls in this series who love adol and also the uneeded cast bloat of 9 it felt like because 9 was doing what 8 did they had to make 6 party members and like 2 of them are slightly interesting

Aside from ysX which I thought was coming out in the US this year
This was the big game I was exited for
And while I was nervous that the FGO influence would hinder this game I was only partially right
I feel this game doesn’t have the same level of writing as stay night, hollow axtria, zero, extra and the other good fate series, it IS on the better end of things
It’s relationship between iori and saber is on that same level of best fate writing and a few other things are really good as well but the other characters don’t really have the screentime they needed to be on that level, either because we were messing around with the kind of uneeded extra servants or we were really not having anything change between each route which sucked as well (aside from the true end which was the best one imo because it’s all about saber and iori)
Either way I hope they’ll realize they can do cool stuff like this and not just shitty musou games and FGO

Shout out to this 20 minute indie game for understanding mental illness and the abstract train of thought incredibly well
Also for making me more emotional than xenoblade 3s and it’s stinky dlc ending did that people keep hyping up because idk it references xenosaga instead of actually being well written

this was such a fun little vn for someone who really likes the characters but doesn't care for recent entries in the series
