I just found out Rockstar's CEO said that GTA Online made up for the 12/7 year wait, and that they are now focused on the live-service market. This was a great game but the online mode absolutely ripped the soul out of the company, and the underlying allegory of RDR2 being representative of the old guard becoming disillusioned with Rockstar's post-GTA V business practices has become all the more accurate. It's no wonder that key-founding figures at Rockstar Games left post-RDR2. Rockstar as a top-tier developer is over and they don't even care. People will whine about RDR3 or GTA VI or Bully 2 but go out of their way to spend thousands on the shitty live service mode.
