2019

It's fun! I think games like these are a bit silly to go through since a lot of it feels weirdly exaggerated and the difficulty/rougelite stuff feels odd in the implementation but I still had a blast, especially with a good friend!

I'm not sure which one to log but since I played both, I'll at least use this one.

this is a genuinely compelled set of games with a lot of layers and themes that makes a strong and cohesive narrative with a lot of really fun and dark moments. I'm kicking myself for not playing these sooner but I'm still glad I gave them a chance.

I'm always impressed with what indie devs come up with and this one is honestly no exception. Absolutely brilliant in terms of music, gameplay and character development for pretty much everyone regarding your party members, the main character and some of the enemies you come across on your journey through the apocalypse.

I do think to some extent "The Joyful" is weaker but I do love Buddy as a character even if her story doesn't hold up as well as "The Painful", but I still felt myself enjoying and engaging with it, especially towards the end with the true ending.

The use of music and the different kinds of music that is used in both games has a lot of eerie tunes that build atmosphere but also some genuine bangers. I don't think there's much I can say at this moment but I think this is now a favorite of mine that'll probably be hard to top.

it's hard to really comment much on "Lisa: The First" when it's follow ups are much stronger as games both in terms of gameplay and narrative. But I still feel this game is at least important to it's structure overall and has a lot of elements that work well with it.

The three out of five only factors in the gameplay itself. I do think once you understand it's story (which isn't hard to do) you get a deeply disturbing realization that the character you're playing as is essentially stuck in an endless cycle of abuse that she can't escape from, which is chilling. I sorta wish the gameplay had a bit "more" to it is all.

An incredibly well down expansion pack that not only has a stronger ending, but a much better set of levels. Absolutely nails a more horror approach and it makes it a lot more unnerving as things go from bad, to worse. There's not much to say that wasn't already said when it comes to the first game, but the hospital level is probably a big highlight overall

A stellar fps game with some of the most impressive gameplay and graphics I've seen, especially for it's time. Some of it looks dated but the stuff they do with the lighting here is absolutely impressive and something I don't see a lot of games around it's time or even sense really do, outside of horror games.

I think the story is decently presented, it doesn't really explain everything unless you do actively search for specific things such as phones and computers. But I think it still works

The gameplay is what holds this game together, first and foremost this isn't really a "horror" game. It's more of an action game with horror elements, but what makes it work is how fantastic the enemy A.I is and how they interact/react to the players choices. The weapons pack a lot of punch and sound fantastic, and the slow motion integration is what sells it the most.

A more frustrating game overall that has a lot of good gameplay elements and flare that makes it unique, but it feels too heavily "rockstar" from it's writing and storytelling, it doesn't feel like it works well with the story it wants to tell. Especially with the non-linear angle they were going with.

gameplay is probably what carries the game the most, the level design is basic but the gun fights between enemies is fun, even with some sections being more obnoxious than others.

Also visually this game is exhausting. Graphics are top notch and I wanna say it's aged pretty well, but at the same time what makes it visually unappealing is the visual effects they go into. I get Max is a drunk guy now, but the way they go about it is awful.

very conflicting game from a lot of angles, very hard to get into properly compared to the first two.

A fantastic sequel with improved gameplay mechanics and a more well rounded story that makes it interesting to see through the end with all the twists and turns. While I miss Sam Lake's face, I do love the new and improved graphics and I feel the game packs a bigger punch overall.

A masterclass of disturbing violence while nailing it's themes home to a near perfect experience. Some of the levels feel a bit more BS and I think it goes on a little long, but that ending is genuinely satisfying and there's so many moments that got under my skin that I wanted to experience more of what the game provided. I kinda hope this dev does more games at some point cause both this and the first are gonna live rent free in my head.

okay yeah, this game rules of course. A killer soundtrack with some of the most satisfying top down gameplay with some pretty brutal combat and manageable difficulty. It's themes are incredibly strong and the way the game incorporates it into the gameplay works, I think for the most part.

Some of the difficulty spikes can be a little annoying but it was manageable and I still had a very good time with the game.

it's a lot easier for me to settle with this one since a lot of indie shooters I've played, I kinda accidentally keep comparing them to how DUSK and Ultrakill feel in terms of mechanics. Which is more on me.

that said this is more Doom/Hexen than Quake and honestly it's a really good vibe. Lots of great enemy variety and level design with interesting bosses at the end of each episode. I think what makes it interesting is that you have an upgrade system for your character and weapons which makes it interesting and fun to play around with, especially some of the spells and how useful they can be during combat.

I think my biggest issue is the visuals though, and not so much the art style cause that rocks but more so just how the screen changes from being damaged. I'm not at risk of having a seizure but it does bother my eyes more often than I'd prefer. But I was able to get through the game with ease.

I do have my gripes regarding how this game goes about it's enemy design, especially since only certain enemies can be defeated with a specific weapon.

But I do think the game has a lot of fun encounters and it does balance itself out for the majority of it's gameplay loop, and it has a lot of charming and funny dialog overall.

It's fun! I think it has a lot of weird issues, especially in co op, but it has a lot of charming moments and a lot of the bosses you face off are unique in terms of how you fight them and how their music fits with their characters.

The final battle kinda sucks but that's mainly cause I wanted one final boss as opposed to just an enemy rush.

I'm not sure how I properly feel but I honestly think this game does rule in a lot of areas and has insanely satisfying gunplay to it. I just think maybe some battles were more or less tedious, and I kinda wish the bosses were more varied, especially the final boss. Having a 1v1 with a human sized boss or two would've worked much better.

There's a couple of difficulty tweaks needed but this game is such a fucking feast of content and just visuals that it is absolutely hard not hate it. An absolute improvement on an already great game, probably my favorite this year next to RE4R.

Honestly the best parts is just finding ways to not do the puzzle and to somehow get through it by brute force and lots of climbing.

Also it's extra hilarious to throw people off cliffs/ledges. Would recommend for that.
