I didn’t play this on Wii yet for some reason there’s no option to selected nes as the platform.

ANYWAYS this games a lot of fun and one of the action greats on the nes…..also it sucks and I hate it. Ok let’s just get this out the way there’s A LOT of bullshit in this game. Seriously the enemy placement is a mixed bag and the further you get into the game the more you’ll be pissed off by it. Especially the respawning enemies. Thankfully this game is the most manageable of the trilogy meaning you can actually enjoy the good parts of the series. The fast paced kinetic action and the precise combat. Everything in this game requires just the right timing to get through and getting to the point where you’re speeding through levels slashing up enemies while wall jumping and timing your hits just right is so satisfying. This game is brutal and at times unfair but its gameplay is thankfully rewarding enough to push you forward. The story and cutscene presentation is very solid too. I can admire the attempt here a lot and even today some of the sequences really stick with you and gives you motivation to keep you going. Even if In many ways it’s just a cheesy anime or action plot and can be a bit generic for what it is I think it was done very well.

I remember when I played this game for the first time a couple of years ago, and I remember it being one of those games that worse and worse the more it went on, but still found it a decent time.

I decided to replay it recently, since I just beat Advance 1, because why not?

While my general opinion on the game has not changed since then, I find Sonic Advance 2 a bit worse than before, because aside from its fast speed, it doesn't really have much going for it.

The level design can get pretty basic, and the bosses are not my cup of tea, and some of them just outright suck.

All of this culminates in XX, one of the worse levels I've experienced in a Sonic game.
Do you want to beat all of the games' bosses again, back to back, and then do the final boss?

I remember dying so many times to that final zone during my first playthrough, and while I didn't die as much this time around, I just wasn't having fun unlike previously.

Yes, in spite of the level design being basic, I still had fun going through the levels, especially during the first half.
But this game has its issues, and I don't really feel like replaying it anytime soon.

Possibly my favorite run n gun ever made only rivaled by Contra Hard Corps and Metal Slug X. I’ll admit I love those games almost equally yet this game probably edges them out slightly mainly for its difficulty balancing.

Gunstar Heroes has a perfect sense of challenge. Giving you a generous health bar not many run n guns would offer while still giving you challenging waves of enemies and a unique line up of bosses to still put your skills to the test. It’s balanced pretty perfectly imo and never leans into too hard or too easy territory. Perfect for people new to run n guns yet still offering a fun experience for veterans.

This entire game feels like an all killer no filler type of experience. The game itself being really short, makes it even more of a memorable experience. Every level feels different from the last. The game has a great variety of levels that not only changes things up stage to stage but it always primarily focuses on combat encounters and while offering really cool set pieces. There’s always something interesting or fun to look forward to and best of all there’s no drop in quality. Even the shoot ‘em up stage while I’ll admit is the lowest part of the game and while it does stray away a bit from the normal run n gun formula its still very exciting and a nice change up before the final stretch of the game.

I really like the art direction and how it differs from other games in the genre.Offering more cartoony and colorful art than the gritty and grotesque art direction seen in some of the contra and metal slugs. But what it lacks in grit, it definitely makes up for in charm and on top of that the explosions combined with the effects used for your weapon makes shooting at bad guys a really exciting experience.

Really this whole game feels like one big dopamine rush. Going from screen to screen blasting these goofy lookin enemies left to right. Looking at all the crazy explosions and of course enjoying all the different bosses and scenarios the game puts you in. Finally having the option to combine weapons together while being able to change weapons on the fly makes this game feel more unique while also being replayable.

Attempting to seriously review every game I've played #3:
This game certainly earns its reputation of being incredibly difficult, but I honestly don't hate it? Sure, it's very hard, and very troll-y, but I never really found unfair, at least no less fair than the first game. Playing this game immediately after exhausting SMB1 also helps, since this was always intended to be essentially just more levels for people who had played the original game to death. The trolls are mostly just funny to me, and none of them actually permanently screw you over. Continues are no longer locked behind an easter egg, and there's an easy spot to do the 1-up trick on the first screen of the first level, so you're never going to be pressed for lives.

The graphical changes are very welcome and I'd be hard pressed to find a single sprite from SMB1 I like more than 2. It's a shame they didn't make use of the Disk System's extra sound channel to expand upon the music from the first game, but the soundtrack is so iconic that I really couldn't imagine it being different.

Another criticism I've seen leveled against this game is the choice to lock the extra worlds behind beating the game 8 times, and I really don't feel like that's a problem. These games were built for replays, and I genuinely think that they get better when you play them like that. Replaying the original game dozens of times to unlock the RetroAchivements for it gave me a much stronger appreciation of it than I ever thought I'd have. Plus, they are extra worlds, they're meant as a neat bonus for players who've mastered the base game.

I can understand disliking this game, but as someone who really appreciates the higher difficulty and improved graphics, I honestly like this more than SMB1.

Great music and visuals for a Game Boy game, but just play the NES version. This is passable but I much prefer that version.

Kinda hype and underrated ngl.

A really fun third person shooter with a pretty interesting story. I understand why this game might be disappointing for some people. As it differs a lot from the amazing star fox 64. Yet on its own not only is star fox assault a really underrated game but it evolves the series in some interesting ways.

Sure it’s not the typical rail shooter like the games before but instead a mission based third person shooter with some fun vehicle sections thrown in. Sort of like Halo in an odd way. In fact this game imo competes fairly well with many shooters of the time. It’s really good on its own merits.

I’ll admit I do wish the game had a better balance of the ground gameplay and the arwing gameplay. In fact if the balance was better, this might be my favorite star fox. But still I wish people would be more willing to judge this more for what it is rather than what it isn’t. I think the missions and combat are quite fun. It’s got decent variety too. Besides it still feels like star fox, it offers a lot of what makes the series so exciting. Just on the ground instead of the air.

I also really like how this game attempted to give star fox a more serious story and succeeded pretty well. It can be corny fun sometimes but other times can be serious without being cringe. Really high stakes too.

Overall this could have been the next new chapter for the series. Better storytelling, and a mix of ground combat/vehicle combat. Assault is really good but sadly there hasn’t been a true follow up to it. A sequel could take the great aspects even further but sadly Nintendo would carry star fox into a directionless state and all people want now is a “true” sequel to 64.

Still I’ll continue to enjoy this game. You can shoot a rocket while standing on top of a arwing, this game is sick.

Solid 4/5

the games are great but this collection is lazy and stupid. Extremely lackluster for what should have been something special. So disappointing and the limited copies stuff is stupid. Making limited physical copies makes sense but why take it off the store too? Nintendo as a business is annoying as hell. also no I didn’t buy this, I saw how lazy this collection was from the trailers alone. they couldn’t even add galaxy 2.

Meh game. I think it was interesitng as a 3DS game but nothing to interesting or worth going back to.
