While it won't become an all-time favourite of mine, handling great power with great responsibility in this adventure was a really good time. It's gorgeously upgraded on newer hardware, the narrative kept me invested with a handful of really engaging story twists, and just moving around the city with webslings, vaults and swings is a simple pleasure in itself. I had to see the DLC through as well with more of the same goodness but a kind of excessive difficulty curve - some challenges in that pack became exercises in tedium with too much to think about & the risk of losing all progress from one easy-to-make mistake. Yet I persevered and felt really satisfied with my work at the end. Super Spidey Stuff!

I used to think a few years ago that this game was pretty middle-of-the-road. But really, there's a lot about it that has aged like a vintage wine to me as time has passed. It's premise is super simple and a run can be finished in no time at all, its technology at the time is impressively good-looking even in today's landscape, and the original soundtrack has slowly become one of my favourites ever for a video game. Playing this game is pure vibes. I won't stretch and call it a perfect game but I've come to accept that it will be among my personal favourites.

(Played one time on stream, finished & completed in my own time)
The freshest that the two-dimensional Mario game format has been for a good long while. There is a splendid array of playable characters for fans of each one of them, though tieing down some of them to the game's Easy Mode style was a mis-step. It's a visual and audible delight with incredible surprises in store with the Wonder Flower mechanic and very little performance struggles if any, and I personally am a huge fan of the way that online mode was implemented, even though not having a direct online co-operative mode & limiting playing together only to local mode is kind of inexcusable in today's day & age... c'mon Nintendo, stop being archaic on this!

Though I felt its loose controls and certain aspects of stage design haven't aged very well, it is still a worthwhile classic to pick up and play through very easily. Great for fans of the original film, and there was no reason for the game's music to go as hard as it does but it leads to a few moments where you are tapping or humming along to it. Beware of streaming it though... your audio could be subject to muting if it detects official movie audio the wrong way.

A setting, gameplay loop and extremely likeable main character (for me at least) all brimming with originality made my experience with flip-flopping about everywhere an overall very pleasant one. For me, the main crux of the game mechanics was thankfully very quick to learn and never really outstayed its welcome - flying about with superhero-like gravity powers is a dream that so many people have, is it not? The adventure had good moments too with a tale that was intriguing albeit rather confusing in the final acts. Just a few more quality-of-life improvements like a quick restart option for challenge runs, and maybe upping the obstacle variety would have made it even more intriguing for me, yet I am satisfied with it as is. I'd say the platinum run isn't an arduous task either, and if you level up with them early then the remaining game will become only more manageable later.
Good stuff, I see why it's a beloved cult game.

Sonic Superstars is not an overall bad package by any means, but it is one of the hardest sells ever. Great stuff in the first half that do make it feel very analogous to the hedgehog's classic era games before it runs a bit out of puff and tries weird tricks that don't quite land in the 2nd half. And HOO BOY, the bonus stuff has some tedium & frustration on a whole new level that is downright inexcusable.
You'll get gold in this mine and some extra hours if you wish to perfect speedruns for time attacks but unfortunately, you'll lose loads of canaries finding it. This is such a hard sell to make to the average gaming fan - wait for a discounted price and it'll be more worth it.

I see this is quite a polarising piece of content - as most 3D Sonic adventures tend to become. But for me personally, it may not be perfect, but it is a spectacular showpiece. Essentially a rewriting of the original game's final act, it certainly amplifies the challenge - quite substantially in fact. The design philosophy seems to have taken a catering to how players can manipulate mechanics for insane movement and it's an interesting philosophy that does hit the right spot in places. But it has a few potentially roadblocky moments with that difficulty spike, plus there are certain character moves that needed fine tuning to be more comfortable using. With perseverance however (and the odd switch to Easy mode, PLEASE don't feel ashamed in doing so if you want to pass a challenge), the climax serves up so much to get excited over as well as cheeky nods to other Sonic media for those who can recognise them.
My biggest win however is well over 15 hours extra playtime for absolutely FREE. That alone makes this DLC a winner and for how it made me hoot, holler and smile until my cheeks hurt in the big finale, this DLC deserves plenty of plaudits.

I've been utterly charmed by the originality and creativity on show while playing this. Its ending is extremely adorable too. I'm going to need convincing on fully mastering it with all the collectibles being so various but
for now, chalk this up as another winner in my book.

An excellent starting point of this interesting direction that Sonic in 3D is taking. On the original completion, there were a few low points & some aspects that could have used a marked improvement and the free DLCs seem to be addressing some of them well, which speaks volumes to how the fanbase is being treated by Sonic Team with this product. I'm looking forward to the rest of it for sure.

2022

This brought back the intrigue of finding a game's deepest secrets through meticulous notetaking and problem solving, greatly combined with a tricky but fleshed out combat system and a superbly ethereal soundtrack. Loved playing it.

HARD. Beautiful extra story. HARD. Cemented my thoughts of this whole game being one of my all-time favourites. HARD.

A sweet and short puzzle adventure game where the puzzles are capable of being quite huge brainscratchers.

More of the same goodness from the first game and if anything, I think there are even more standout levels, original ideas and superb characters to enjoy.

Once, and never again.
The screen size simply doesn't work for this game first and foremost, and that's before getting into the huge slowdowns, lack of content besides the main game's two modes and the disappointing renditions of the classic music tracks on the GBA soundchip. Not a nice version of this game at all.

I definitely see the beginnings of a great genre of games developing through this beloved classic, but for me there was a bit too much of that 'old game clunkiness' to it. But I do thoroughly appreciate it and respect it for what it did for the gaming landscape.
