I almost put this one down. It features unsatisfying stealth sequences, somewhat linear puzzle design, and lots of walking. But I'm very glad I stuck with it. The back half of the game features interesting translation puzzles and begins to tap into the full potential of the game's core mechanic. I just wish there were more of these kinds of puzzles earlier -- it also feels as though its absolute full potential is never met. Better to be left wanting, I suppose.
Also, it goes without saying that the visuals are immaculate. It looks extremely distinct, and each area has its own visual identity. It also does a great job with ensuring the languages reflect and deepen your understanding of each society. There are loads of linguistic surprises to discover, and the ending was a marvelous treat that reveals the game's best secret hidden in plain sight. It starts slow, but the game eventually goes places and had me hooked.
