I’m not sure I’ll ever stop playing this game. Slay The Spire offers an extremely addictive challenge with incredible replay value. It is my first foray into a deck building game but it hooked me right away. Highly recommend to those interested in card games or rogue likes. Extremely easy to understand and master in terms of gameplay and logic.

Dragon Quest II offers a look at the ingredients that make up a great video game sequel. This game subverts expectations in a wonderful way but stays true to its roots laid in the first game. Three party members over just one in Dragon Quest I offers experienced and new players to the JRPG genre a breath of fresh air coming off the last game. More strategy, more story and more lovable monsters to fight help make this game a must-play for Dragon Quest fans and JRPG fans in general. The ending stretch can become a little nauseating with obscene random encounter rates and a big level spike, but its worth it to see through to the end. (The music is also incredible)

A recent all time favourite of mine. Having gained my adoration for the Dragon Quest series with Dragon Quest VIII on the Nintendo 3DS in 2017, I had to find out first hand where it all began and Dragon Quest I quickly became one of my favourite games. Simple, straightforward game design with the immediately lovable art style of Akira Toriyama’s original monster designs, Dragon Quest offers an extremely concise portal into the role playing game genre, allowing new players to experience a still grand and sprawling but simple adventure while offering experienced players with a balanced challenge and fun battle system to engage with. I find myself booting up the game just to listen to the overworld music and to battle slimes every so often. At a playtime under a mere 8 to 10 hours on first play, it is a must-play for anyone interested in JRPGs or players looking to see where it all began for the Dragon Quest series.

A gameworld I will never get tired of being in, Ocarina of Time is an all-time favourite of mine. Countless hours can be spent exploring the supremely crafted overworld and dungeons of Hyrule. It is a game that is still hard to put down today and will forever be revered as one of the greatest works of its medium. I tend to lean towards the 3DS version for stability and presentation, but I do have a soft spot for the original, warts and all. A must-play for anyone who has ever thought of playing a video game.

The highly anticipated new entry in one of Nintendo’s most beloved franchises delivers for me in every way. As someone who has played thousands of hours of previous titles in the series, Animal Crossing New Horizons offers near infinite possibilities in making your island exactly how you want it. The villagers never looked cuter and the bugs never looked more real. I’ll be playing this game for as long as Nintendo decides to support it (closing in on 480 hours played.) a must-play for any Switch owner.

The long awaited (but also somewhat unexpected) follow-up to playstation 3’s The Last Of Us, the Last Of Us Part II delivers a divisive sequel from start to finish. Main character Ellie finds herself on a destructive path of vengeance that may leave a sour taste in players mouths, but albeit an intentional one. What I would describe as “next gen” graphics, animation and lighting are massive standouts, as well as many narrative risks that either land or sort-of-land, I think The Last Of Us Part II will be revered more highly in the future than its predecessor. A must-play for Playstation 4 owners.

The de facto samurai video game. Ghost of Tsushima pays homage and great respect to the samurai films of yesteryear, specifically those of Akira Kurosawa, to great effect. With exploration and item acquisition reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, Ghost offers an adventure fan a lot to sink their teeth into. A must own for Playstation 4 users

One of if not the greatest platformers ever made. The level design is sublime and demands mastery for hardcore gamers but also forgives the casual with purchasable items to make levels easier. An incredible soundtrack helps bolster the frantic but methodical traversal through levels. My only complaint is that the boss fights are a little too long! But this is a must play on Wii U and Switch

Story aside, Xenoblade Chronicles 2’s game loop is incredible. Levelling blades, collecting items, completing quests and unlocking more blades, the routine becomes so much more fun with amazing battle mechanic and rippin’ music. Turn on the japanese voice track!

Im here for the Tetris, but Puyo Puyo is really fun too! I have logged nearly 400 hours in this game, mainly playing 40 line Sprint mode in Tetris. My best time is 50 seconds and I love working towards a new personal best with this game. The most snappy Tetris has ever felt, its a great game to just pick up and play

A must play on Nintendo Switch. My second foray into Fire Emblem, the first being Awakening. Three Houses has such a great gameplay loop, awesome music and lovable (or hatable) characters. Finished all 3 (4?) houses.

My first and favourite Yakuza game. Nothing beats chilling to the Real Estate Royale music after battling some billionaires

My favourite of the classic Mega Man games. I love playing through this game every other month.

Another game I absolutely love. My record completion time is 37 minutes (glitchless) I love to speedrun this game!

My favourite game of all time. I have played through it 4 times and mastered it twice. Can’t wait to play it again when the Xbox One version releases!
