Halo 3: ODST, a Halo game that changed the narrative.
ODST took a step in a different direction, due to the player character being none other than a ODST soldier, codenamed "The Rookie". Although to the difference it hightlighted, it still was a really captivating and emotionally oriented story that twisted the narrative in areas you didn't particulary expect.
The characters accompanying in his journey were well thought out, had their moments during the story where they stood out from the pack, and given backstories that made them truly feel human and to allow the player to connect to them on a really emotional level.
It's for that reason, Halo ODST is a game that'll always stay close to my heart. I highly highly recommend you pick this up, because it can truly change your perspective on games itself.

Halo 3, the most defining Halo game we've ever had the pleasure of knowing. My time with this game is one I always look back on, due to it being my second game ever played. The Flood sections, in my opinion, were a bit tedious.
Regardless, Halo 3 is a journey to be at most had once. It's a game I'll praise for as long as I live, because it's tight combat, it's gripping and thrilling story; is something that's timeless.
