I can stop whenever I want (No, I can’t).

An extremely addictive rougelite. The idea is that you’re given a hand of cards, and you play Poker hands in order to earn points. Each round has a set number of points to hit with a limited number of hands, and the point targets go higher with every round.

In order to keep up with the high point targets, you must use Jokers, Planet, and Tarot cards in order to increase your multipliers. Once you run out of hands without hitting the target, the run is over and you must start over from the beginning.

It is a very simple game, but there is a ton of variety in playstyles. It’s also nice to just watch the numbers go up to crazy amounts (there’s an Steam achievement to hit 100 million points with one hand). You can different decks to use with different rules, and the possibilities really do seem infinite.

My main issue with the game is that Flushes are super overpowered. The multiplier is high and it’s the easiest to pull off consistently. There is definitely merit to using other hand types, but it’s easy to fall back into when things go wrong. The game could use a little more balance. Also, the CRT graphics and screen shake are kind of annoying - I recommend turning them off in Settings.

Besides that, I have no complaints. This is the best card video game since Slay the Spire - pick it up if you don’t mind losing hundreds of hours of your life.

One of the best 3D platformers I’ve ever played. I was expecting a Kirby game, but this is actually a sequel to Super Mario 3D World in disguise. It is a fixed-camera game that focuses on collectibles and rescuing Waddle Dee’s (basically star coins).

Kirby still has his absorbing abilities, but this time the amount is reduced in order to make each one upgradable. Theres a lot of fun ones here (the drill and needle ones are my favorite!) and since they require doing side-missions to get them upgraded, I actually went out of my way to do them. It was a great incentive to try everything the game had to offer. Everything translated to a 3D space really well, and I only had a few times where the depth perception seemed off.

Everything was so fresh and imaginative. The level design, platforming challenges, and setpieces had me on the edge of my seat. My mouth dropped many times playing this game, usually saying something like “Wow. I love what they did here.” Production values were through the roof with this one - there’s levels that even give Bayonetta a run for her money.

I would also say this is one of the more difficult Kirby games. His jumping ability has been nerfed to be limited-time, and the height you can get is also capped. There are also a lot of levels that will require quick reaction times. However, there is a casual mode if you want to lower the stakes.

The graphics and music are by far my favorite in the series. The only things that I didn’t care for were the songs with a made-up language (personal preference) and the occasional framerate drops when too many things are happening. Even then, both of these issues barely detracted from my experience.

IMO it is a masterpiece, and can stand right next to 3D Mario in quality. There are some very minor issues but this is about as close to perfection as you can get. A must-play for everyone.

Ended up a bit disappointed by this game. I loved the graphics, music, and new enemies that it brings to the series. The animations are incredible and it’s a huge step up from the New Super Mario Bros series. Kevin Afghani killed it as the new Mario.

However, I can’t say the same for the level design. There are a lot of good ideas here, but it results in most levels feeling gimmicky. Because of this, the game turns into more of a puzzle-platformer that keeps changing the rules on you. These kind of levels should be balanced out between regular ones, not the whole game.

The Wonder Seed level changes also don’t really live up to the hype. Some are awesome like the musicals and rideable ones, but there are some boring ones that just give you invincibility and some trippy visuals. I think they should’ve cut about half of them, and given us traditional (acrobatic-focused) Mario levels instead.

I hope that this is not the future of 2D Mario, because it may remove my interest in the series entirely. As a one-off game, it’s not for me, but it’s alright. Giving it a decent rating because the highs in this game are very high.
