I like playing (and spending money on) games but I never seem to have the time to get through them all! I'm here to try and rectify that.

"Back 4 Blood" is a fine enough romp that died too soon and serves as a suitable enough spiritual successor to "Left 4 Dead 2"... as long as you have friends anyway.

TL;DR: Buy this game and it's DLC on sale if you and your friends are looking for a pretty fun campaign game to play for a few weeks.

Full disclosure, I played this game exclusively with friends with the sole purpose of having fun. We ignored any story, barely knew what we were doing half the time, and ultimately enjoyed our time with it. If you're looking for a single-player review or something from someone who engaged more with the game than I did, you'd probably be better off reading someone else's thoughts.

"Back 4 Blood"'s gameplay is really just "Left 4 Dead 2", but more. You're still using the same kinds of weapons and gear, and making your way through the same kinds of missions hear. The main difference is the card system, which is probably the biggest missed opportunity I've seen all year. In theory, it's perfect: cards let you augment your characters with different skills, abilities and stats to help make each run through of a level feel exciting and new. The execution is where things really falter though, as most cards only end up changing your stats. It's not fun or cool to have 75% of your cards be "+10% melee speed +2% walk speed +3.8% move speed while shooting". Where the cards really shine though are ones that augment or improve your character in some way (basically any card with a written blurb instead of a bulleted list). For example, there's a card that grants ramping melee attack speed, one that heals party members when you get a melee kill, one that grands temporary health for each shotgun-pellet landed on an enemy, etc. Focusing on these cards are where the game really shines, as they allow you to make fun specialized builds for runthrough. It's just a shame that, again, these cards aren't as popular as the "pure stat" ones are.

"Back 4 Blood" get's really fun when you throw the DLC into the mix, which I highly recommend you do from the start (something I accidentally did but definitely recommend doing). Luckily (if you don't care about playing as the 2 new characters) you only need one person with the DLC to be able to access all of it's new features and missions. So just force the friend you like the least to buy it and tell them to exclusively play Tala for the wackiest hijinks. I'd still recommend you all buy the DLC though, it's honestly the highlight of the whole package, which makes the dev's decision to stop supporting it hurt so much. The "Ridden Hives" are really fun diversions that can be pretty tough, and the new character's and weapons are neat too. The best part of the DLC by far though are the maps, which go beyond the base-game's retread of Left 4 Dead's area themes. You go through an abandoned prison, a warf town, a children's science museum (which RULES); it's all really cool and original locales for a zombie game like this. I wish the base game had that sort of variety, I'm sure people would've been a lot kinder to it if it did.

I'd definitely recommend Back 4 Blood to anyone looking for a fun co-op time. You can get a lot of mileage out of it if you're able to look past some of it's confusing systems and derivative design choices, and how the best content is stuck behind a second paywall. Again, buy it on a steap price-drop or sale.

Little Misfortune is a very cute experience but a very nothing game. Going into it I figured it would be like a point and click adventure, but it ended up being more like a walking simulator. That's not the fault of the game or anything, I'm just saying that you should avoid this one if you're not big on story. As for that story, it's charming and bittersweet, if not a little short. For what it's worth though, I became really attached to the titular "Little Lady" in what little time I had with her. I'd only recomend this one if you've been seeing videos of it on YouTube and think it's funny like I did. I'd also reccomend waiting for a sale.

A truly excellent game that has become one of my favorite of all time. No matter how down in the dumps you might be, Wandersong will lift your spirits and fill you with hope and happiness and a warm fuzzy feeling that just won't quit. Do yourself a favor and stop reading reviews so you can start playing this game!
