Hear me out. I despised BOTW, something about it didn't click for me. I dunno if it was the open world that seemed too empty to me or the fact that at the time I was very Anti-Switch despite loving LoZ in general. Now in 2023, I've played through BOTW and still do not like it much but this game? THIS GAME IS A TOTAL IMPROVEMENT. The "empty" open world? PFFFT so full with shrines, side quests, the depths, the sky islands, secret bosses, caves. Its all so PACKED. The story isnt a fore front and it isnt incredible but its engaging nonetheless. That's until the final sequence which is amazing from the very moment you realize that it's coming to an end. My only gripe with the game is that it was possibly TOO big, 87 shrines in, I decided I had done enough of those and began to ignore the ones I found to do the main story. This is a double edged sword, if you want Zelda content this game is chock full of it. This is easily a 200+ hour game if you want it to be, its a Zelda themed Skyrim in the way you will never stop finding content. On the other hand, it can be very overwhelming or even begin to give fatigue with how much is actually in this game. Overall the gameplay is great and the exploration phenomenal. The switch is definitely pushed to its very limits with this title and I honestly cannot wait to see what it looks like running on Yuzu at 60fps. This is a must play that will be in everyone's recommendations for titles to play on the switch.
