2017

ARMS represents the off-shoot rare IPs that Nintendo comes up with every now and then. This is by no means a fantastic game nor does it offer a ton of gameplay but I personally enjoyed my time with this game and set my expectations in check in order to enjoy it.

Gameplay is quirky and different from anything else I've played before which is one of the aspects I enjoyed the most about this game. Generally, gameplay seems slow due to the extended arms melee combat but the game does warrant quick thinking and properly strategizing against the different fighters the game has to offer.

Overall, this game features unique gameplay, interesting characters and colorful graphics. Worth checking out if you are a Switch owner.

Perhaps my favorite Remedy game to date, Control provides an intriguing setting, characters and story that keep the player engaged. The best part however is the gameplay, where you will be using superpowers that defy physics as well as over-the-top weapons.

Exploration within the Bureau is surprisingly fun and interesting despite the overall monotone and federal government office feeling the game has. Enemies and bosses are varied and can be very challenging.

Short game played in first person with comedic tones that are a bit all over the place (some funny events, some cringey ones). The game is fairly short but worth a playthrough if you can find this on sale just to explore some of the silliness in the world and characters.

Interesting art direction and concept but fairly forgettable in terms of the story and overall experience. Short game and experience (thankfully).

Perhaps my least favorite Mario Golf game in the series, Super Rush introduces speed golf gameplay which is good for variety but most definitely abused in the single player story mode. Said mode falls a bit flat and lacks the highly wished RPG setup that the first handheld Mario Golf had.

On a positive note, graphics are great and colorful, and classic golf gameplay is solid as always, courtesy of Camelot.

It's pretty surreal to think that Nintendo released two timeless games in two of their major franchises (Zelda and Mario) in the same year (2017). Super Mario Odyssey stands out as one of the best 3D Mario games thanks to its addicting gameplay featuring rock solid 3D platforming and the addition of Cappy which allows Mario to transform in different objects, providing an ample amount of variety in terms of gameplay.

The graphics are colorful and crisp, performance is solid with smooth frame rates and controls are on-point giving this game the typical ultra-polished seal of Nintendo quality. Level design is varied and very creative, with distinct things to do in each world. Additionally, the soundtrack is fantastic so all in all, when you check all components that make up this game you will find that this is an instant classic in Nintendo's library and a must-have and must-play for any Mario fan.

This was a launch title for the Nintendo Switch that fails to capture the fun of previous games in the series and fails to capitalize in offering features that could use the advantage of modern hardware. The single player mode offers a simple story and decent levels but the design itself is nothing to write home about and some of the boss battles are downright broken (I had to rely on sheer luck for some of them in order to beat the bosses).

Not the best Bomberman game out there, that's for sure.

A remastered version of the indie cult classic. This is a solid Metroidvania indie game considering it's one of the earliest examples of indie games. The game is fairly short but offers an interesting setting, good gameplay and mysterious characters. This updated version has improved graphics and different endings.

Another great entry in the modern Tomb Raider trilogy. This game adds a few improvements versus the 2013 first entry.

Story is solid but not great. Gameplay is where the game shines featuring a solid 3rd person gunplay combat system, puzzle solving in different tombs, exploration in semi open world areas, crafting of items and materials, as well as unlocking skills. This game definitely takes a page out of the Uncharted games and it's not a bad thing at all. The cinematic presentation combined with solid gameplay makes this for a very fun adventure action game. Also, "mature" Lara rocks.
