I grinded this game for a few Weeks until I finally beat it. Stage 3 and 4 are tough. 5 and 6 are pretty easy but then the Final Stage is hard again. The struggle is getting that perfect run where nothing goes wrong in a game where alot can go wrong.
Getting a Perfect in each Stage to unlock the final level is insanely hard. You have to hope for easy minigames. If you see the rope swinging game immediately throw your PSP against the wall.
Just hard all around. Much more so than I Wanna Be The Guy. The Final Boss took me so many hours on every playthrough I did.
It's just the Final Stage on the Second Run that is hard. Beating the Stage and both Bosses with the short ranged Hadouken is a real challenge. The rest is okay and the final boss is a cakewalk compared to the stage before.
Even if you've figured out strategies for everything the Wall Section and Machine Gun Willy can still screw you over in the final stage. One of those games where you need to grind for a run where nothing goes wrong.
It's just the Final Boss that sends you back three stages for no reason. The rest is just fun and tight platforming.
Save for a few section the game is more "unfair" than difficult. And the unfair parts aren't that bad since there are savepoints like every two screens. I absolutely hate the koopa clown car though. Super tedious Bossfight
The two final Stages have some tricky sections that require clever use of your special weapons. Tough but possible
Nowhere near as hard as Arcade Gradius 2 which I still haven't beat. Also quite different. Since there are continues you can get through this eventually.
On Normal Mode this is one of the more forgiving Touhou games mostly because of the Flower Barrier you regularly get
The Original GnG is really not as hard as people claim. The two final stages can be tough but after a while you get used to the enemy movements and patterns

NES Gradius is just so easy when you're used to the Arcade Version.
Not as hard as the First. The final boss is a challenge though.
Harder than BK1 but a super fun and fair game. Just hate the clone boss

Honestly also overestimated in terms of difficulty. The final stage is challenging but not even that much if you pay attention to enemy patterns you can get through this
Easiest but also best GnG Game imo. Nothing about it is too challenging. Maybe the first section of the final stage... maybee... The Genesis Version is even easier since it has checkpoints before the bosses but im not considering that port for this ranking

Dragon and Robot may take some attempts. The rest is just fun and easyyy

I guess it could be a bit lower on the list than the 11th spot. I don't think I had too much trouble with it when I really wanted to beat it. Iirc a Game Over only puts you back to the beginning of a Stage and not back to the title screen.
The games I ranked lower are just games I have played and beaten alot more often so they seem easier in comparison even though most were probably harder than contra on my initial playthrough. I think I'll move it behind Battle Kid 2
I have only played Super C and Contra 3 and they already seem much more difficult than Contra 1 and haven't put enough time into them to really rank them

@Tamatou oh yeah i was implying that contra is over-praised for being too difficult generally by alot of people, hope u didnt feel like i was criticizing u

I agree. Contra's Difficulty is pretty average compared to other NES games. It just happend to become famous as a "difficult game" probably thanks to early youtube top ten lists featuring it alot. Same with I Wanna Be The Guy which is really far from being "The Hardest Game Ever" like many people used to call it when it was fresh.
