This game is one of my favorite metroidvanias of all time, but the Switch version is quite simply not fit for purpose. It is only just playable, if you're extremely tolerant of stuttering, overall poor performance, murky textures. i will revise my rating if it gets patched.
There are games that earn accolades thanks to meticulous design and expertly crafted mechanics and worlds, and then there's Super Metroid, which feels like it was designed by aliens.
Even today, there's simply no other action adventure game with a world so finely tuned for gaming and yet so organic and 'real' feeling. The fact that such an immersive experience could be made for the SNES, and indeed that almost none of this immersion is lost today, is simply astonishing.

As far as 'traditional' Zelda games go, this game is the gold standard. Although it has a slightly more open structure than previous titles, allowing you to tackle dungeons in any order, those dungeons are still mechanically distinct and require the use of special tools - alongside the central mechanic of the game, the wall painting transformation, which is delightful and endlessly inventive.
The game is also one of a select few that makes meaningful use of the 3DS's flagship feature, the 3D, thanks to some levels featuring stunning verticality that might be more difficult to complete on your 2DS.
