2023

A fun, cute little cooperative game. The art style is charming and the story that the game has is adorable, but sometimes it's hard to figure out what way to go. Sometimes the game just isn't too clear about what needs to be done. But, it's still not too bad, and isn't too long. It was a fun game to play with my wife, despite some of the game's frustrations.

This game's world is really cool. The game's story is really cool. I love SCP, so I figured I would love this game. But something about the combat just didn't click with me at all. It also has a crafting system I just didn't like.

A game with a complicated history.

A game with a simple yet enjoyable battle system.

A game with witty, memorable dialog and characters.

A game that makes you smile.

A game that makes you sad.

But still, a game that makes the whole journey feel worthwhile.

That...is MOTHER 3.

I really don't know how, but despite the game having bugs, janky animations, and very questionable game design in places, it somehow still manages to be fun for a decent amount of the time.

But just barely.

A good example of why grappling hooks are fun as hell and should be in more video games.

A buggy mess that somehow still provides a damn good experience.

One of the best reasons to own a Wii U.

I think this is the most pointless mainline Mario game to exist.

It's not a BAD game. The level design is fine enough. But it's just okay, and didn't really need to come out when 3D Land came before it on the same platform and NSMBU came out just a few months later.

And the main gimmick for this game doesn't really make sense. The main draw is to collect as many coins as you can. But...there's nothing really that rewards you for doing so. Your main objective is still to beat Bowser. You don't use your coins that you collect in many meaningful ways. If anything, the sheer amount of coins makes getting a Game Over nearly impossible, since you're getting lives constantly.

You can collect 1 million coins. That nets you a new title screen. But that's it. If you don't care about that, then collecting coins is pointless, and really, by this point in the 2D series, collecting coins was basically already pointless.

Again, not a bad game. Just an 'okay' game.

This platformer is often compared to Wario Land (specifically Wario Land 4), but it takes everything about WL and dials it up to 11. The movement is slick, your moveset is varied and fun to execute, the level design is very creative, the soundtrack hits so hard, and the art style is crazy and wacky in the best possible ways.

This isn't a relaxing game, just to let you know. Everything about this game can put you on edge. You move pretty fast, and at the end of every level, you have to beat the clock, which isn't always forgiving. Not to mention Peppino (the player character) constantly looks like he's about to have a panic attack. I think this game wants you to feel the same stress as Peppino, and it does a good job at that. Whether you like that or not is up to you.

There's a bit of a learning curve to the controls, and I couldn't quite get the hang of it when it came to walls (namely, not running into them). But the controls are definitely not bad. When you time all of your moves right while running through the level, it can feel so satisfying.

This is a game I can recommend to fans of platformers that want a bit of a challenge. And if you REALLY want even more of a challenge, go for all P ranks. They're hard. Like, really hard.

It's not a game I play solo often. I really like it, but playing alone just doesn't feel right to me.

But, playing it with friends? Building up a world together? Showing off the crazy contraptions to each other? Exploring, mining, and laughing all the way?

That's Minecraft to me.

"It makes you feel like Spider-Man."

Kirby had a fantastic transition into 3D

Incredible game with wonderful open environments, a beautiful soundtrack, and a combat system that is a nice iteration of the systems before it.

The story is generally good and heartfelt, though in some parts, not as gripping as the previous games. It has some really high highs however, which keeps the story engaging. If you're a fan of the Xeno games, then you'll probably like it.

Characters are fun and are nicely fleshed out for the most part. You really do get attached to them.

Overall, a good time. I certainly do not regret the 80+ hours I logged into it. Will probably buy the story DLC when it releases.

Okay wow, I guess I DO like Soulsborne games
