my opinion regarding this game is very complicated. however i'd still absolutely recommend it.

a quick summary of my experience would be this: i went into this game entirely blind, all i knew was the ominous steam page, and all the marketing i had ever seen only showed the first act of the game. i was absolutely enthralled by the aforementioned first section of the game, and it was already lining up to be one of my favorites of all time, come the second section i'm disappointed that it's different, but i still learn to have plenty of fun. here i would like to take a slight detour, and clarify that it was entirely my fault for the surprise there, i wanted to go in entirely blind and barely looked into the game at all, and in retrospect i realize that that wasn't exactly the most intelligent decision. anyways then came the third act, i almost gave up on the game entirely, i hated the aesthetic, i hated the dungeon master, and i hated some of the new mechanics. however slugging through that all was worth it, as it made the final portion of the game hit much, much harder, and is one of my favorite endings in any game due to this.

in spite of all its flaws, i would give it a solid 9/10, likely to be a 10 once the kaycee's mod DLC is finished and an official part of the game.

the best game ever created hands down
