From the man who sold the world

This fucking game man. Its such a hodgepodge of so many great things and so many bad things. The gameplay is fantastic and honestly some of the most fun I've had in an open world game I have no gripes against that. Yet the story is such a mess, some of it hidden in cassette tapes and the whole story just gets super unstructured after the 2nd chapter. But I still really like the story and the characters (for the most part). The Man Who Sold The World was such a perfect song choice for this game. I love how that ending just ties together the whole series like a nice bow.

It's kind of just the creator's love letter to horror and that's fine really. It's not groundbreaking in gameplay nor is the plot that interesting but its a pretty cool romp.

When I first heard of this game I immediately thought of the Ted Nugent song which if you hadn't listened to the song before is a guitar-driven track with a real "I'm gonna kick some ass" feel to it which strangely enough fits this game. I am a big fan of the action movie genre and a HUGE fan of John Woo's work with "Hard Boiled" being one of my favorite movies ever so I was very eager to play this game because it was a sequel to that film. In the gameplay aspect, it fires on all cylinders it's such a balls-to-wall kind of game that I wish we got from a Max Payne game (Max Payne 3 is kind of close) the movement is so slick and satisfying and I love all the things you can do in a stage with my favorite being able to ride on those carts also the tequila bombs are cool. Story-wise though it doesn't strike me in any way which is strange because it's John Woo but whatever you don't play stranglehold for the plot. I wanna give a shoutout to this game for having one of my favorite levels in a video game which is that part where you fight these guys while a jazz band is forced to still play and you have to protect them it's so cool. Though the game is extremely jank and that fov is so ugly.

This shit sucks and it doesn't even work.

Jonathan: "Meryl, there's something I want to give you."
Meryl: "Don't talk that way."
Jonathan: "Here."
Meryl: "Your Cigarettes?"
Jonathan: "And everything I've ever lived for."

Lethal Weapon but in SPACE. It's your classic buddy cop action but with a sci-fi and neo-noir twist. Aint that neat? Jonathan Ingram and Ed Brown are just the guys from Lethal Weapon but like more interesting and better with such an endearing dynamic that I can't get enough of. The rest of these characters too are so interesting. This word-building is such a master class I was so invested I was clicking everything wondering what each thing was. The game looks nice too, I prefer the sprites of the PC-98 version but the cels are great too. The plot is so good, like I said classic buddy cop action yet with what makes a Kojima story a Kojima story, it is a bit slow at the beginning but doesn't affect me in any way. I wish there wasn't much boob jiggling but whatever.

Turok is a Frankenstein's monster sort of game in both gameplay and presentation. Akklaim one day decided to combine 2 of the most popular genres of the 90's; a 3d platformer collectathon and a fast-paced first-person shooter, which gave us..... Turok!!!!! It blends surprisingly well and I had a lot of fun I enjoyed the open-ended map design that they had a fair bit, it's very vertical. The weapons you get are pretty cool I think. In the presentation, they decided to combine the pre-historic dinosaur age with alien stuff; it looks cool and gets us some cool enemy designs. The final level was sooooo draining though it took so long to beat i felt drained after I beat the boss they did not have to make it that long.

Throughout history, suspicion has always bred conflict. The real conflict, though, resides in people's hearts. This conflict has just begun.

"KOJIMA IS GOD," I say as I pray on my hands and knees while The Man Who Sold The World (Midge Ure version) is played on repeat. This game is peak fiction and I mean it, like there is nothing bad about this game there was NOTHING that I loathed about Snatcher. The gameplay while barebones is still kind of engaging, the story is extremely kino, the art direction is stylish in the sense that it reminds me of 80's/90's anime movies, the music is phenomenal and and another example of how the Sega CD can produce such great sounds, the voice acting while not award-winning has charm to it which leads me to my next point, the characters all have such a pull to them that really makes me invested in the world around them and just them in general. I really wish konami or some other studio does something more with Snstcher like a sequel or remaster. So many clever things are in the game, but I hate doing long logs, so honestly, all I can say is "Play Snatcher".

It's just some good ol' doom but with a lot of changes. Ofc I can't talk about this game without talking about the change in tone to put my thoughts in short it's pretty cool and looks nice too. The gameplay is the same doom we all know with some of the levels being just so forgettable with some diamonds in the rough. I enjoy using the unmayker tho. Also that writing is so funny it's just sooooooo edgy. Midway did a decent job its just that this game is just kind of there especially when you look at the options you have when you see n64 fps games like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and Turok which came like a month after I think.

As fast and frantic as the first but the game misses the mark the first game had. It kind of drags on toward the end, level design is cool though because its kind of like all connected maps that flow seamlessly with backtracking to other maps in the level which was a first for the genre and is really creative but i think its the reason we have 30 minute levels. Also the enemies are such pain in the asses, its fun for a while until you get to the later levels. The game looks nice too i love how colorful it is compared to the browness of the first game. But what this game ultimately feels like is the start of the downfall of id software.

GOTTA GET A GRIP

It's messy, confusing, and nihilistic plus the music is great. It does drag on in some parts and the pacing is like mountains stacked next to one another but it's not half bad. I used to think this was the better game but nah 1 is like so much better.

Goldeneye is a classic that stands the test of time! At least for the most part. While everything from the smooth gunplay to the hilarious and charming presentation fires on all cylinders it does lack in some areas. The level design for the most part is pretty good but something about the enemy placement feels kinda bs honestly, once you get to the later levels the charm starts to fade away and it leads to a bit of frustration, especially the penultimate level behind cradle but the levels always have some sort of different gimmick to them and the objectives are always fun. Also that fov has aged so poorly but I honestly cant blame the devs its an n64 game. Shoutout to that music btw it fucking rocks.

"They played us like a damn fiddle!"

Its a good prologue i will admit. It sets up The Phantom Pain nicely and its very fun but the replay value is very small there's not really much to do. Deja Vu is one of my fav side missions in a video game ever though.

"Time for jack.... to let er rip!"

Probably one of the only few games im good at and im glad cus i love this combat. The story is pretty good but its sooooo annoying sometimes.

"V for Victory!"

People hate on this game too much. The gameplay isn't as bad as people say it is its honestly good fun but it does get tiring towards the end a little. The story is really good and really encaptures what would have been big boss' rise and its complimented by the amazing cutscenes with art by Yoji Shinkawa and Ashley Wood which is very stylish and i love how dirty it looks. The cast is also one of my favorite casts in metal gear game these characters are all so charming and it made me sympathetic towards Big Boss.
