Full of a genuinely upsetting amount of heart and soul that comes through the characters and story moments. Some absolutely top tier Bat Family stuff. Lovely designs on the various suits and some extra little details that show mad attention went into this.

Completely fucking burned down to the ground by an onslaught of live service shite that it's struggling to even give a shit about itself. Horrible trend. Go away.
Anyway, Suicide Squad huh?

What a shame for the devs. I've stood by Arkham Origins being unfairly maligned and a stand out in the Arkham series. I hope they can put some of this passion and creativity into something that isn't rushed out and stuffed full of stuff no one actually wants but big corp money thinks we do.

Anyway I played the whole thing and will probably grab the Platinum because I am a broken gaming goblin. Might do a cheeky Arkham series replay as well.

Absolutely excellent melding of the supreme polish of 3 with the cool experimentation of 2. It feels like the big shake-up entry that completely expands the series - the Metroid Prime or Ocarina of Time to Pikmin 3's Super Metroid or Link to the Past. I can see this being so many people's favourite Pikmin game, and this was the exact game they needed following up 3 and the 10 year hiatus.

For me, I think it's so huge and grand that it somewhat overstays it's welcome - ultimately that fast paced problem solving life organising feeling of Dandori was better felt in 3 for me. I'll never say no to more Pikmin, and almost everything they tried was a success - but on a personal level 3 might still remain my favourite just for how comforting it feels to crack open that game, try and do a faster run or perfect a Mission Mode stage.

It's still supremely excellent though, and one of the best times I've had on the Switch!

This is great. I spent all these years hearing about how terrible it was, and I have to assume most of it was from folk regurgitating AVGN patter without playing it. Same thing they did for Simon's Quest.

I was tearing up when Reinhardt prayed for Rosa's soul. How could I hate this?

hadn't touched RE4 since the GC launch so i'm 0-2 vs the fella that bursts out the tank on fire

HD Project mod is essential, i cannot overstate how good this game looks with it. i'm still stood here clapping

some of the patter directed at Ada/Ashley was god awful in the 2000's nvm 2023 but, that aside, this is still the fuckin Best, man. this is still the game

Definitely not my favourite in the series. The story wasn't particularly cohesive, and large parts were just explained away with fairly wild revelations.

People often talk about the junction system, which is fun to break but also incredible admin heavy and once I found a good setup, I rarely changed it up.

I'm glad I've seen this cult favourite FF through to the end, but I definitely won't be joining the fan club.

Recently, I had a thought that is purely speculative. It feels to me that anyone who will tell you they love a specific SNES game will also follow that up with "And it STILL HOLDS UP!" Like, think about it, if anyone you know talks about Mario World, they'll likely add "And I 100%'d it during lockdown and you know what? Still holds up!"

Anyway, I don't feel like I've ever heard anyone say that about Donkey Kong Country! I've never played DKC, so I thought I'd play it to see if, well, it holds up.

It does not.

I played through this on my Miyoo Mini, which obviously allows for save states. I'm not one of these cunts that says "Ah, but if you used savestates/rewinds you didn't really beat the game" because I've known satisfaction in my life from things that aren't video games. However, because I was specifically trying to see if it felt fun to play in 2023, I tried to play it "legit". No save states or rewinds. Fuck me what a slog. Just a horrid experience.

this is my JAM.
one of those games that reminds me why i love games! and shadow dropped as if created by magic. amazing.
some solid endgame stuff it's just so complete.

Weapons make big numbers and makes me feel good. Great game

A good if utterly uninspiring action horror that has a few problems. It's painfully linear and it feels somewhat rushed - a few ideas just feel a bit half-baked and could've done with a little more time in the oven. Or, at least, an oven that wasn't cooking during a global pandemic.

It's one of the best looking games I've played to date and has a genuinely excellent atmosphere, while the combat, which has irritated a few people, for me was simply a ballhair away from being brilliant. It's brutal and (groan) visceral and makes you feel really up close and personal with the grim horror of the enemies. It forces you to think in every encounter, never get greedy and be just as aware of your defensive options as you are offensive ones, but a few things like the ability to change weapons or cure in a pinch make some of the encounters with many enemies or the handful of boss fights feel a bit messy. Not that good, scrambling for survival against the odds messy either. Just like the tools you have aren't quite up to the challenge that has been put in front of you.

Saying all that, if I was in the business of shitting on survival horror games for having crap boss fights and control issues I'd have done nothing but shit since like 1996, so I have to say that I enjoyed my run through The Callisto Protocol a fair bit, could see the issues it had even if they didn't really bother me to much due to my pretty high tolerance for some of the ropey stuff that comes with survival horror titles and I would love to see a sequel that is a bit more expansive, less linear and fleshes out some of the genuinely good ideas found here.
