The original release is very good, but doesn't quite reach the heights of DMC4 and 5 due to a lack of features from later games, namely no style switching and only being able to equip 2 weapons. If you play the PC port with mods, or the Switch version with these features added, it is one of the best action games ever. The story is also my personal favorite in the series. As for the gameplay, the only thing holding it back at this point is a lack of inertia and other physics introduced in later games to make it feel better.

Everything about DMC4 but even better. Legendary Dark Knight mode is ridiculously fun. The campaign is still pretty weak, but this is a port and you probably already know the story, so it's not a big deal. The new characters are fantastic additions. Vergil is great as expected, but Lady is also fantastic. I'd like to see her in more DMC games. Trish feels a bit too much like an easier Dante, but that's fine since even a nerfed Dante is fun to play as. If she returns, I'd like to see a more unique moveset.

One of the best action games of all time. The advanced techniques in this make the combo scene a strong one, even over a decade later. The story campaign is pretty weak, but Bloody Palace really saves this game. If you treat it like an arcade game it's perfection.

Surprisingly good for an action game of it's time. The atmosphere and level design is really enjoyable, and overall it feels immersive in the same way that older RE games do. It's missing some key QoL changes from later games, but what's here is great. The little tricks like reflecting Phantom's fireball with your sword or jumping on Shadow's spikes are all great and I wish that sort of enemy design was more common in action games.
It's an early PS2 game so naturally it also has frustrating platforming sections and hilariously bad voice acting. You can see some of Hideki Kamiya's more frustrating designs here that are common in his games, like forced minigames that drag on for way too long.

Amazing action game. Without PC mods its a 4.5, mods bumps it up to a 5 which is why I have it listed as my favorite game.

Vergil good. I wish the new cutscenes weren't pre-rendered.
I played the PC port but I'm counting it since mods give you all of the Special Edition features. (Turbo, Legendary Dark Knight, etc.) Speaking of, it's silly that this port remains exclusive to PS5 and Xbox.

One of the best Final Fantasy stories bar none. Some of the best music in the series. A masterclass in MMOs and JRPGs in general.
As of 5.5, the postgame content has been very strong, but is held back by delays and other production issues due to COVID (lack of voice acting, removed content, etc)

Painfully mediocre. It feels like a fusion between Breath of the Wild, Nier Automata, and gacha games, but none of the things that makes those games fun. Things like air combos and defensive options are locked behind characters you have to gamble for. The open world is stunning, the music is chilling, the characters are all very likeable and the story is interesting, but it's all held back by a very lackluster game. It would've been better as an actual paid MMO, a single player open world game or just an anime/manga.
The PC port is awful if you want to play this with a controller. The launcher and title screen both cannot be navigated with a controller and you have to manually enable controller support every time you launch the game. It's been out for months now with this remaining the same.

Fun action game that is held back by feeling too much like a musou. Music is fantastic, story is very strong but loses steam at the end.
