I really really wanted to love this game but as it stands I just liked it. It's good but nothing more. The story feels utterly emotionless and desolate, it has cool things happening but everything is lifeless which I think is on purpose but that doesn't make it any more enjoyable. mechanically I found this game kind of bland, and I love turn-based combat and have gotten through some very very tedious games but I found alot of the bosses very samey and non-memorable, I love how this game makes you rethink your battle strategies in ways other jrpgs dont really but I think alot of the bosses boil down to buffing and debuffing attacking repeating and I just didnt find it very fun. really was enjoying this game for thefirst 10 hours for its atmosphere alone but by the end I was just so unfeeling towards it.

the combat is amazing though the quality of the dungeons varies wildly, the story however is the worst in the entire megami tensei franchise so far

Truly unique and perfect and would've been enough just to be a weird single player roguelike social deduction game even without the amount of personality it has.

I didn't think it was possible to simulate this kind of thing in single player much less have a round where a sequence of bonkers events occurred layering on top of eachother until I spent like two hours in pepe silvia mode trying to figure out several logic chains and gave myself a headache.

I love it. Great if you miss werewolf type stuff but can't be bothered with all the organisation anymore too.

hii everyone MITSTHONY URUTANO here ! the internet's least active backlogged user and it's time for a review of radiohead kid a mnesia exhibition !!!!

okay so despite being a huge fan of radiohead ( yikes !!!! ) i actually took forever to get around to this and after an exhausting week, i actually think this was probably the perfect thing to play ? i don't know exactly where i'd rank kid a and amnesiac on my personal album ranking but this little audiovisual experience certainly makes a case for both being intense and emotionally rich experiences throughout .

knowing that this was intended to be an actual exhibition that couldn't work logistically because of covid is such a fascinating thought when going through this because if anything, this is also an incredibly strong case for the strengths of the medium in its ability to transport us from place to place in a visually interesting and immersive way that otherwise couldn't work in real life . ( the pyramid room exhibit is PHENOMENAL )

there are some really gorgeous visuals paired with stellar sound design that make this glorified walking sim way more compelling than it should be despite it being mechanically limited as an experience . while i do think radiohead fans will definitely get the most out of this, i also think this could be a good way to introduce someone to their music ???? there's a lot here that reminded me of stuff like lsd dream emulator funnily enough but i think it's also just a really good visual representation of how it feels to listen to these albums in general . definitely something i'll be returning to from time to time as an excuse to listen to the albums again !

overall, i give this a " radiohead live at mtv beach house 1993 " / 10 !

ERRANT THOUGHTS :

- arbitrarily good productions is a fantastic name for a company

- the first two minutes of this game had an audio bug that played unbearably loud static and my brainrot genuinely made me think it was intended until i remembered that probably no song on amnesiac sounds like that .

( you can fix this by going into your control panel ----> sound ----> select your hardware device and go into its property tabs ----> advanced ----> select a bitrate that isn't above 24 )

- the lighting in this sometimes looks like a horror game and it's really cool in a freaky way lmao

- i wish more walking sims looked like this and i genuinely think this is one of the most beautiful things i've seen out of a smaller scale project like this

- i love how easy it is to get lost in this game but often times following the sound of thom yorke's voice will lead you where you need to go which i find really poignant lol

- in rainbows is still my favorite but yeah this is a pretty damn strong case for both of the albums included to be moved a bit higher in a personal ranking

obligatory " y'all know this is just my opinion right ? "

A fucking amazing puzzle game completely overshadowed by, (this is a huge statement considering early SMT) the absolute worst writing ever produced by Atlus.

CWs for YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bounds of this World: incest, sui*, sexual assault falling from great heights, starvation, student-teacher abuse, mind control, child abuse,

Both some of the most exciting and most misfortunate adventure gaming I've ever done. The way this game let's you freely control time travel for the sake of solving adventure game puzzles is intensely demanding (thank you MAGES hint system) but produces extremely satisfying adventure game a-ha moments. You are constantly in the dark even when the right item is found, a new path is made, of some silly sci-fi proper noun is given to you. Nothing in other flowchart routed games compares to the freeform zipping around you get here.

Even with the eroge cut out in the MAGES remake, the cool ass time travel stuff if constantly getting overshadowed by the magnitude of pointless sexual fantasy and taboo shit driving nearly all of the character relations. By the end, only one route leads to a non-incest and non-age gap love interest. It sucks, it's boring and doesn't produce a cohesive thought about taboo or incest. What's worse is that the game strips away the time travel and really any adventure game elements in the last 6-8h when it pivots to strict fantasy to decay anything likeable about the perspective character and to introduce the silliest incest plot of all time. I love the opening of this game and it's fun to trace the rest of adventure games and visual novels through here, but the problems here frequent and unavoidable.

CWs for Zero Escape: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors: blood, graphic injury, sexual harassment, kidnapping, sedation, child death.

Uchikoshi's directorial debut is maybe his best version of his one trick. A touchdown of a DS exclusive, 999 plays on reader assumptions based in game logic, hardware, and UI to neatly wrap them into earnestly pulpy character beats. The feelings of piecing together a mystery for someone doing 0 detective guesswork have never been mechanized better. There are no end goals or bigger statements, but the metanarrative moves are evocative enough that the whole game is supported.

I've been tricked into podcasting about this franchise! Listen to our episode closing out 999.

it's time to play the game
TIME TO PLAY THE GAAAAAME
MUAHAHAHAH

i used to make white obama

Imagine being the "B-Team" making a little handheld game. Now, admittedly this is for a juggernaut entertainment franchise, but still, you're not "the guys."

And then you invent Wario.

None of us will ever achieve that kind of high.

I owned Land the First as a kid and have played it to hell and back. Love it! But I didn't get much of a chance to play 2 and well, it was time. Even though it's been years, I can't imagine I'll end up disagreeing that this is the better game. In fact, it's just fully A Good-Ass Game. This was the last new 2D Mario before we went into 3D games and then the sterile-but-fun New series, so Mario was well established, but not so much that you couldn't go way off model. Nintendo would never let Mario own his own castle today, but he owns one here. He also has a gigantic mech modeled after himself, which says a lot about the conception of his personality we're working with here. The only other guys I can think of who have mechs of themselves are villains like Dr. Robotnik and Salazar from Resident Evil 4.

Mario Land 2 is on one hand a hodgepodge of elements and sprites from previous games-- I saw bits of 3, World, and even a little of the original Land all over-- and on the other a lot of weird new stuff that never came up again. Every level has a unique theme, loosely grouped by the overarching world theme but with plenty of variety within. For example, the water world has a normal water level, a submarine level, an a whale vore level. Mario games, always focused on the platforming, tend to repeat themes throughout, but no expense was spared in tossing every cool idea anyone had into Land 2. The platforming feels just as good as you want, too.

If I was to complain, it would only be to point out that the final level is one of the roughest difficulty spikes I have ever encountered. Put a checkpoint in that bad boy. This also might be the downside of the normally-nice ability to play the worlds in any order. But other than that, heck yeah. Super Fucking Mario.
