Hyperlink Games

hyperlink games reference a type of film where multiple storylines happen concurrently, with the perspective shifting to different sets of characters. These stories may intermingle and eventually collide but might do so in very minor ways. they play with time and can be nonlinear. think Magnolia, Nashville, and Pulp Fiction.

for a game to qualify, it needs to be narrative focused. it needs to have more than 2 perspectives (ideally several) it shifts to (so resident evil 1 and scarlet nexus would not count). also, all the sections have to be canon - something like assassin's creed: odyssey would not count because picking one character cancels the other's story out. something like final fantasy vi wouldn't count because it almost entirely is a linear narrative, switching off different characters to follow. each character's narrative should be unique and distinct from the overarching plot.

this is kind of on the cusp, because really the scope is a bit small to be considered this - no one really has a storyline outside of the main conflict. but the way it handles time in a deeply nonlinear way i think pushes it towards counting
SA1 counts because each character's storylines are distinct and take place concurrently. SA2 doesn't because, even though it has some elements of shifting perspective, it is mostly 2 linear narratives
