I hate to think that the development team behind Silent Hill, Team Silent, consisted of people who were on the verge of being dismissed before delivering Silent Hill. Despite this, they created one of the most iconic horror game franchises.

Their masterpiece came with Silent Hill 2. It's art, plain and simple. Every step through the fog, every meticulously rendered scene, which could take up to a week to complete, is art in all its subtlety and symbolism. The way the gameplay connects with the story of its characters, and even in its jokes and nods, is art. The haunting music of Akira Yamaoka elevates the experience, blending seamlessly with the game's atmosphere. Its atmosphere traps and disturbs you, even after you've closed the game, leaving you with lasting memories.

Silent Hill 2's brilliance lies in its ability to create an environment where the real horror is psychological. The fear of the unknown, the dread of what might be lurking in the shadows, and the constant tension make it an unforgettable experience. The game doesn't rely on overtly shocking the player but rather on building a persistent sense of unease and introspection. What lies in the fog? What is in the complete silence of this dark hallway? Possibly nothing, but perhaps it’s just the player dealing with their thoughts. This approach to horror, where the player's mind becomes the battlefield, is what makes Silent Hill 2 a timeless masterpiece in the genre, one of the best games in the PlayStation 2 catalog and, of course, one on the greatest games of all time. I love Silent Hill 2.

I have played through Dark Souls dozens of times on different platforms; it is one of my top 5 favorite games of all time. I must say that it is an experience that can only be conveyed through video games—not books, not theater, not movies. Dark Souls offers a truly game-centric experience, much like other titles in FromSoftware's catalog.

Dark Souls is a deeply personal experience, one where the player and the controller must establish a connection through trial, error, and curiosity to decipher the world that Hidetaka Miyazaki and From Software team have created. The direction of this game in every aspect is fascinating to me: gameplay, music, artistic style, sound, and lore. The atmosphere that this game emanates feels mystical.

Without a doubt, Dark Souls is a cornerstone of modern video games, marking a before-and-after moment. However, people realized this a bit late, only after it had changed them as players. After 10 years, we are still talking about and referencing Dark Souls in almost every discussion.

After playing Dark Souls, you probably no longer want games to be so 'gamey'; you seek experiences that are truly worthwhile. If not, they will bore you.

Dark Souls may not be the first Souls game, and perhaps it is not even the best Souls game, but to me, Dark Souls is special because it showed me what video games can achieve when you seriously consider them as a medium. FromSoftware, though they were not aware, changed the industry with this game.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a masterful game, simply one of the best of 2024. Regardless of its reliance on collective nostalgia, Square Enix delivers a well-rounded product where its flaws become tiny compared to its successes.

Since it is an RPG, we know that the party is very important. Despite the characters being well-known in popular culture, the game itself shines due to its endearing characters, exquisite and highly complex combat, beautiful soundtrack, and enjoyable gameplay. It is a beautiful game that simply stays with you when you play it once, when you play it on hard mode, and when you achieve platinum.

There are very few games where a player enters "the zone," and I consider FF7 Rebirth to be one of them. When you want a challenge, you get a challenge. In-game post-game is ridiculous so good!

Yeah, It's true, no product is perfect, and Rebirth is no exception. Some aspects of Tetsuya Nomura's direction don't seem right to me, such as overly anime situations or scenes that might come across as silly.

Nonetheless, a game not being perfect doesn't mean it can't have 5 stars. I loved Final Fantasy VII Rebirth; it would be an example in my conversations with people about why I love video games and why they should be considered a medium for conveying a message, it became as one of my top 10 favorite videogames of all time.
