controls are abysmal, new characters either break the level design in a boring way (luigi) or just feel miserable to play as (yoshi, wario), new content generally does not add much of anything to the game. fails to understand anything about why the original was so good and just feels like some glorified tech demo rather than a remake that needed to happen.

carried hard by nostalgia, convinced that anyone who thinks this is better than the original booted up 64 for like 15 minutes and then never touched it again. there's very much a reason why the speedrunning scene for this game is completely dwarfed by the original.

pretty miserable game, only redeemed by the fact that it's still mario 64 (ableit a much shittier version of it)

has almost everything i'd want out of a metroidvania game. great boss fights, great music, fun exploration and items.

honestly the only thing missing for me is a stronger sense of atmosphere (à la the 2d metroids or momodora RUTM) but everything else in this game is so good that it more than makes up for that.

this is the sex of mario party games

it's old and jank but i love it

fun game
worth picking up again if you dropped it after the initial hype

nearly every issue most people had with it early in its life has been addressed through the game's updates + the game has a consistent flow of new content

the most bland pokemon game i've ever played
several ideas are thrown at the wall and almost none of them stick

the new pokemon are cool, the pss was a great addition, fairy type is cool, but everything else about the game is so forgettable

after gamefreak took risks with the gen 5 games, they reeled back and played it much safer with this uninteresting mess of a game

it's competently made and perfectly playable, but lacks so much of the charm that made the older games and even the gen 7 games much better than this piece of shit

gen 1 pandering was at a high during this game, but it doesn't really make sense because this game came out before all the genwunners got back into the series - it just ends up being lame ass kanto references one after another and i can't help but to roll my eyes thinking about it all

the only reason to still own this game is just to use it to complete the dex in a different 3ds pokemon game

i like this game a lot but it's slightly overhyped

gameplay-wise, it's the hardest to revisit because there's so little to do compared to future entries (especially during ng+)

story-wise, it has the best final act out of the three modern persona games, but the rest of the story is pretty much about on-par with 4 and 5 imo

the main cast is probably my least favorite between 3-5 (i don't like yukari, koromaru doesn't really add anything to the party's dynamic, and ken is just kinda irrelevant to anything outside of akihiko's character arc) but junpei, akihiko, and aigis are probably some of my most favorite characters in the series

for a first-time playthrough, i think the game is still good, but it's still very jank and barren compared to future installments in the series. replaying it after finishing p5r just kinda makes even more apparent.

i still respect and enjoy this game for what it is, but i feel people look past all its issues way too much because of all the persona 4 bad and persona 5 cringe shit takes on twitter.

2020

cute little two player game
had fun playing through this with my girlfriend

legitimately the best fps game i have ever played

took what worked in 2016 and improved on it in every way

2016

solid game
definitely served as the foundation for something even greater
i wonder what that could be 🤔
