A 1-person dev managed to make one of the best 2D RPGs of the past decade. A really impressive title with a 2-pronged battle system that introduces some interesting new mechanics, all while managing an incredible fantasy narrative and an amazing orchestral score

It was a tough call between Pentiment and Citizen Sleeper for the #1 spot. This title shares all of Citizen Sleeper's positives and may even have a superior narrative, but doesn't share that title's level of engaging gameplay mechanics.

Such a wonderful blend of RPG and resource management elements and has one of the best "choice matters" sci-fi stories I've ever experienced. Combine those attributes with gorgeous audiovisual presentation and you have the best game I played from 2022.
