I think what makes this one stand out as even better than the already really good base game is the way it taps into the same primal mystique that motivates us to put characters into games they shouldn't be (be it official bonus modes or fan mods) and works that into both the game design and the story. Plague Knight is an outcast, both in a narrative sense where they're shunned by the local villagefolk and forced to live in an underground lab and in a mechanical sense where it is abundantly clear that the main campaign's levels were not made with them in mind. Sometimes it's in the sense of unintentional side effects of a character with drastically different attacks, movement physics, etc. like many such cases in Propeller Knight's stage and other times it's parts of levels hard coded to not work like they did in Shovel Knight's campaign such as the flying bushes in Specter Knight's stage and the rainbow bridges in Polar Knight's stage. However, while this might seem like something that only works to Plague Knight's detriment, it also leans the other way around. Plague Knight's sheer quantity of movement options allow them to cheese many platforming challenges that would have given the cerulean coward trouble and the increased range and spammability of their attacks makes cheesing bosses even easier. Controlling Plague Knight feels like controlling a character modded into a game they very much weren't supposed to be (ex. that Sonic Generations mod from a while back that allows you to play as Mario 64 Mario, complete with their very specific movement physics) and also playing the role of the cartoon mad scientist character that Plague Knight is clearly riffing on; never having a chance of winning if you play fair and square but instead getting success through being a cheating bastard. The world wasn't made with Plague Knight in mind but goddamnit if they aren't going to hang on by any means necessary.
Also, Plague Knight and Mona are yuri to me.

Japanese men vomited BLOOD and ate CONCRETE to make this game and you guys are giving it less than 4 stars

I would never recommend this to any human being, even if you're bored. Lowest pacing I've ever seen, and it's story isn't nearly worth it's wait at all. Don't spend your money/time.

Every once in a while I go "huh, Metroid Dread came out. I never thought that'd happen". And I'm glad it did, because it's really good. I'll always like the Super Metroid/Prime direction of a more pensive and atmospheric game, but I respect the more action-driven direction and I think Dread perfects it. Finally there's some actual exploration, which Fusion/Zero Mission/Samus Returns kinda ruined with their handholding. Dread has that too, but it does it by nudging you in the right direction with clever world design rather than just telling you where to go. I still think Super Metroid is unbeaten int hat regard but that's ok. Dread's doing its own thing, and as an action game it's pretty hard to beat. All the bosses are great, the EMMI sequences are cool, though they perhaps get a bit repetitive, and overall I had a great time with it.

what a game. how it manages to surpass botw and make it look like a demo is no short of a fucking miracle. Easily game of the year, most definitely a contender for game of the decade , and at the very least ties dark souls 1 as my favorite game of all time. The 6 year wait was definitely worth it and it should be a criminal offence to own a switch and not own this game.

goat sauce fr. somehow captured the same lightning as the first. ultrahand is like one of the most creative abilities in gaming.

It's actually crazy fun and immersive exploring the world was even though it was very similar to its prequel. Add to it very ingenious gameplay mechanics and an enjoyable main quest to make for a game that is truly legendary.

"Resident Evil 4 but with sidequests where you kill rats" is like a bad joke someone would tell about an out-of-touch games exec. The bones of this game remain sturdy, but the bloat and the lack of imagination on display are as damning an indictment of the medium's recycled future as any.
