This game was an odd one. It had all the heart for a truly unnerving story, but it didn't have the polish or the execution to get it done. The animations go from stiff to goofy to clipping through each other, which took away any and all horror it had set up in the story. A story which feels both too fast AND too slow somehow.

It's a fascinating look into how some ideas are so good, but can only take the project so far into the actual execution of it all. I'd recommend it purely on the note that more people should see this weird mess of a game.

I hope that my experience was due to the game being improperly ported. Because the time I spent on this game was miserable. I was intrigued by the concept, and the overly positive reviews I had read in the past... But getting all the way to the end was a real struggle.

Not because I was bad at the game (though I was to be completely honest). No, the game was SO buggy. The controls were so delayed and unresponsive, I had to press a button 2-3 times just to get a single response. ESPECIALLY with Aggro, which sucks since he's supposed to be there to make life EASIER. And the camera had a mind of its own. It would move and adjust itself all willy nilly, and when I would try to correct it, it'd freak out and give me headaches just looking at the screen. Those two elements made my time very un-enjoyable.

Otherwise, the game was interesting! Cool concept, big (though thematically empty) world, and the fights were cool.... When I could actually participate in them.

This game is goofy and silly, and has a lot of heart to it. The story is a bit basic but the cast is full of loveable dorks, that I had a grin on my face the entire time I was playing it. The map is a bit small, and the fights very repetitive, but its one of those games that you don't really mind it.

If you're a fan of Paper Mario or Mario RPG, I can definitely see you enjoying this fun little game!

2020

This game has all of the building blocks to be good. Solid characters, solid premise, solid world to explore. But it falls flat in almost everything for me. The controls are not as tight as they need to be, and the worlds all looks the same so for someone who is directionally challenged (read: me) it was a nightmare to navigate.

The two leads are very charming, but the awkward phrasing killed anything that the voice actors were giving me. And they were giving a LOT.

A shame, and maybe I'll come back to it... but I doubt it.

First of all, this game walked so that Hades could RUN.

The vibes on this game is IMMACULATE. It's space, it's fantasty, it's a classic western... but most of all it's emotional. The world is falling apart and it's your job to save it. The levels are these delightful little bit sized areas where you run around with an arsenal of weapons. The story took me a moment to get into but by the end I was really attempted to everyone (and the game is only like 7 hours long). THAT is the sign of a great game.

Please do yourself a favor and play it.

As a huge fan of Paper Mario 64, this game really brought back to the days when you'd stay up all night playing because you were having too much fun! This was such a wild ride and I was smiling like an idiot the entire time. It's a short and sweet game that gets in, has a blast, and gets out.

I would give it a perfect 5/5 rating if not for a few tiny gripes that did diminish the fun. The first being the horrible depth perception for platforming. I'm notoriously bad at platforming so it might have been a skill issue but some areas took WAY longer than they should have because I kept falling due to the weird 45 degree angle of the world.
The other is that the scenes were very fast paced, and didn't really let any joke sit for a moment. I would laugh at something, and miss 3 jokes as a consequence.

Overall, FANTASTIC game for all ages.

If Shadow of Mordor was a demo, this would be the full game. It takes all of the mechanics and playstyle of the first and expands on it in a fantastic way. The army you need to conquer is bigger, the threat is larger but your arsenal and personal army grows to the challenge. It's a fantastic ride, and the entire cast is really solid!

Only gripe is that the game does glitch quite a bit. I'll be fighting a Captain and they'll leave the screen and then pop up again, with their cutscene and everything, and restart the battle. It's annoying, but not a dealbreaker for me.

I would reccomend playing Shadow of Mordor first just to get a feel for the gameplay, but this was a really fun game!!

This game is a fun little challenge. It's not long, or deep by any means, but it's repetitive nature is fantastic as a little romp through Middle Earth. The enemies aren't super varied, and the fighting style took a second to get the hang of, but it was a LOT of fun. A bit short, but if you view it as a prologue/demo for Shadow of War (which I am playing now), it makes a LOT more sense. Definitely recommend as a fun in-between game!

This game is beautiful, and it has such an amazing concept to it, and I really, REALLY wanted to like it. But this game needed one more round of polishing up in the dev department. The biggest thing for me is the lag between button input and actual results on screen. It's just small enough that it's easy to miss when you're running around but when you're in a boss fight, it makes the WORLD of difference. And I know that I'm not an epic pro gamer, but this game isn't satisfying when I finally beat a difficult opponent. In games like Hollow Knight, where the controls are tight, I can recognize that I just died because of my own carelessness. Here? If you are late on a single dodge/shield action, you just died from a multiattack that you can't recover from at all. It's incredibly frustrating....

I got through all of Taro's story, but I think I might be dropping this.

What a stunning game! It's a heartfelt story that feels like a scifi/fantasy novel come to life for you as the player to run around in. The characters are memorable, the world vast and the story is heart wrenching and beautiful. The gameplay is very repetitive, making it a tad easy, but the story MORE than makes up for it.

Beware that the True Ending is a bit of a chore to get to (but it's worth at least looking up/spoiling for yourself once you get the original ending). I saw that it was up for a Game Award... and for the story I would agree, but the gameplay would kick it for the running for me.

This game is beautiful, there's no other way to describe it. It's hauntingly beautiful, as any good post apocalyptic world should be. The controls are tight and the stages challenging, but in the way that when you die, its your fault... and also your job to learn from that mistake or continue to die over and over... and over. I spent so many hours trying to 100% it, but there were somethings I just couldn't do.

The only negative is that the story isn't super obvious, and that's a shame! I wanted to know the story, but I didn't want to hunt it down by the time I realized i had missed it. Fantastic game for any platformer fan!

SPM was a fantastic ride, full of the complete sass, silly stories and wonderful worlds that I remember from the original Paper Mario! The game play itself is a bit hectic, as it has you switching between holding the Wiimote sideways and using it's motion sensor, but the story more than makes up for it! If you'd like a fun-filled ride to say the world from an evil prophecy, this is your game!

I had this game as a kid, but I got stuck about halfway through. But I found it, and decided to give it another go! And what a rewarding adventure it was! This game is bursting with personality, even the two MCs who don't even say a word! The world is lively, the humor is odd but charming, and this game makes use of EVERY button, mechanic and good idea that it could spare. The game itself took me about 35 hours to beat, and I didn't have to backtrack or retry sequences too often (which is a HUGE plus for me).

What a great game!

What a delightful game! As a percussionist and a gamer, I feel so catered to with this wonderful game. It's a goofy, self-aware adventure full of bashing enemies and funny quips!

My only complaint would be that its easy to lose your rhythm in this game, since only you are completely tied to the timing of the music. Which as a drummer is disconcerting, but I was able to make it a fun experience regardless.

I would easily recommend this to any and everyone!

This game is a wild ride. It's dark and gritty but still has a heart of gold, and one hell of a message. I played it completely blind, and was pleasantly surprised! It's fairytales, but dark and gritty, which normally is an overdone trope. But I have to say, the writers did really well here. The reason that it's ended up this way makes perfect sense and doesn't distract from the actual story! It's a TaleTell game, so the gameplay is limited, but the mystery is intriguing enough that I'm completely fine to be railroaded here.

The only thing that keeps it from being a full 5 stars is the dialogue options. While your choices DO matter, there's one small detail that I am a bit bummed about. Generally in dialogue, there's an rough-around-the-edges option (he's trying to be nice, c'mon), and a real asshole option. And no matter what you choose, people will be snippy and rude to you. I guess that drives the point of Bigby's story, but I was hoping that being a huge dick would've given a bigger reaction.
