"played" either means the game in question was finished or i am personally finished with it.
"backlog" is stuff i own in some capacity.
as for the 5 star systems, i will just use my goodreads scale:
1 star - this game must be forgotten by god and man
2 star - i was not wild about this game
3 star - other people will enjoy this more than i, but i see the appeal/enjoyed it/probably had some fun
4 star - i love this game and wholeheartedly recommend it
5 star - i am an absolute freak and this game was made specifically for me, your mileage may vary
