Antarctic Adventure?
Hi there! I will suggest the Sonic storybook games: Secret Rings and Black Knight. I can vividly imagine them working on mobile devices with a tilt and touch control hybrid similar to Temple Run.
The original Run released just a year before Canabalt and I think it may be a perfect fit for this!

i think 3D WorldRunner would count. it has a lot of running within a 3D world

Added all of these! (Except Black Knight, which came out in 2009)

would space harrier count since the character is constantly running forward and the levels loop endlessly?

Space Harrier is something I've considered for sure, but the fact that it's a shooter makes it seem more in line with games like Star Fox. I could add it though.

I want to say that I don't really think Secret Rings fits. While Sonic does auto run it really isn't a autorunner due to being in levels that have set goals and things to do etc rather than being continous. Most of the main levels though are to reach a end goal, so I suppose it could be a autorunner depending on how you look at it.Though I'm not sure what you'd consider a autorunner but just throwing my opinion out there. regardless, cool list!

Kid Klown in Crazy Chase for SNES is one of these I think!
