What dark magic did the fellas at Nintendo summon to craft a game this buttery smooth and ridiculously fun to control on what’s essentially a portable NES—

There are even Crash Bandicoot-like death animations for Mario here; such as my man getting flattened like paper then hovering for a bit— this doesn’t feel real and I’m so giddy that it is

Unreal puzzle platformer on Game Boy, starts with a fake-out where you play through the four levels from the arcade original before playing some 90ish other levels of varying complexity. I feel it's understated in comparison to the Mario Minis series, which are also unfairly panned. Nintendo could have remade this for Switch.

Super solid puzzle-platformer that holds up really well, even 30 years later. It's a fantastic reinvention of the original Donkey Kong that actually serves as the first entry in the Mario vs Donkey Kong series (before it became about toys). Mario's flips, jumps, leaps and throws are really fun to utilise and the game's level design and world gimmicks never outstay their welcome, making the game feel fresh. I don't know if I would call this game underrated, but I would definitely encourage more people to check it out if they want to play a great Game Boy game.

The soldier levels are the worst, but overall it was a good game c:

everyone's oiled up in this game

(Review from 2021) I really like the idea and the concept of the gameplay in this game. I got a decent way through but the structure is just too punishing. The controls are really wonky and not intuitive. Every stage has two parts and if you die on the second part you can’t get a star rank on the stage. It’s just a little tedious. If you retry or leave a stage you get punished by losing a life. I just don't have the energy for when games are this weirdly punishing.

Dare I say, I think this one is better than the original Mario 64 in almost every aspect.

The new content is good, the minigames are great, the extra characters are a welcome addition and Luigi is just straight up broken lol. Seriously, you can skip so many platforming challenges with that bastard, it's hilarious.

People like to say that this one is worse than the original because of the controls, and while I do agree that this game should be played with an analog stick instead of a D-pad, I never felt it was that big of an issue. To me this game plays just fine with the D-pad, I never felt like the game was unplayable or the levels were too hard this time because of it.

Sure, doing tricks (Especially sideflips) with these controls is harder, and specifically in the latter half of the game, the D-pad can be an issue with so many precise platforming sections, but by that point I was already used to it. I played this game recently on an emulator (Since I no longer have a DS and I could not get the game for my 3DS) to make sure I wasn't just wearing nostalgia goggles... I actually had a lot of fun even now all these years later!

I did play with a pro controller but I used the pro controller's D-pad to move just to keep it authentic. Is it the same as playing with the tiny DS D-pad? Idk but I still didn't really care about the difference that much, it was still Mario 64 but better.

Overall, I recommend this one after having experienced the original. I genuinely believe that this one is just a better version of that game, with the downside of less accurate controls and kind of ugly graphics; I will always defend it for as long as I live.

Idk. It's just Angry Birds again but now it's snowing or whatever.

2.8??? yall CLEARLY were not there

Remember how they made Angry Birds amiibo's?
Those were the days

Another iOS sequel game I picked up sometime, played a bit, didn't like as much as the original, then deleted. Then re-downloaded during the pandemic, played, didn't like as much, and then deleted. Level structure was again weird. Did play for a bit because, you know, it's Angry Birds again.

Angry birds but it's 2 stars.

The gameplay is fun, I guess? Maybe? It's always hysterical when the pigs go flying towards the screen.
However there is something about this game that feels dirty. Aka, I can smell the stench of modern corporate mobile gaming from a mile away.

The game gets bonus points tho because this song actually SLAPS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpjNIXnKRUk
Also where did my boy Colonel Pig go?
