short and fun game for a weekend

Some loose thoughts:

- The game starts slow and is very handholdy.
- Fi often repeats the same information that you just saw happening, and shows up way too often.
- The controls are so weird that I could never really 100% learn them and was still making mistakes as I was finishing the story, which was incredibly frustrating. Also traversing through the world is so slow.
- The game takes you through three different areas, which you're going to be revisiting multiple times in different combinations throughout the story. The pacing in the story itself really bad, and it feels like you're always facing imminent danger but before you can face it you actually need to go do something else elsewhere.
- This game has so many fillers like the escort missions or the silent realm, and they don't really add anything to the story just make the entire playthrough more tedious.

I really wanted to like this game and initially it was fun to play, but as I played it more and it forced me to go back and forth between the three areas and threw at me more and more distractions, in the end it left me very frustrated. I'm glad it's over now.

There isn't much for you to do after you unlock all the Pikmin.

I stopped halfway through the second part of the game as I didn't like how this game suddenly changed. Wasn't interested in backtracking through the entire world and trying to figure out what to do. Hints that told you where to go weren't really helpful and following walkthrough guides also didn't seem to be fun for me.

I really liked the pixelart graphics, the music, and the first part of the playthrough.

This game seems to be on so many people's indie GOTY lists but this isn't for me.

amazing game with insane amount of content. story drags a bit but still very enjoyable. had a lot of fun.

fun party game, though it's a bit difficult to teach new people how to play. partly because the game is fast and it's hard to explain what to do quickly, but also because of the characters have unique movement/skills. once people grasp the basics it's pretty fun, and extra coop modes are fun as well. for singleplayer there's a lot of unlockables to grind for and the Wario Cup mode looks very fun as well

had a lot of fun with this one. great story that's not necessarily about saving the world, but the focus is more local. tries to have more realistic mechanics, but that's sometimes a pain (like with the save system). combat can be also tough if you don't put any effort into learning it.

recommend downloading the Cheats mod for troubleshooting when you get stuck in a quest or want to save, as it can be buggy. also there are other QoL mods that can be used if you really don't like the systems they've put into the game, but i'd recommend starting off without them if you're looking for more unique gameplay.

had a lot of fun in the beta. pretty much everything that i expected from a modern L4D game.

big questions remain about the value of full game content, their monetization strategy, etc.

still, it's day one on game pass so i will be checking it out.

amazing game. loved the monster-catching loop, progression, enjoyable (though cheesy) story. lots of stuff to do in the post game, definitely a game that i will come back to with future updates
