Meu real problema com esse jogo é o fato do default da posição da arma ser na horizontal, e isso atrapalha muito. Principalmente quando vem uma horda de inimigos de diferentes direções. Mas de resto, acho só um pouco abaixo do primeiro.

Right off the bat, I gotta comment on how much I hate that whenever you're firing in a specific direction, the character just snaps back briefly towards the default direction before firing in the direction you want again. This made certain encounters a nightmare, especially when there were enemies both above me and below me.

Aside from that... meh. Super C on the NES is way better and this one got kinda annoying by the end.

A near perfect sequel that boosts everything contra 1 does just enough without going overboard. If it has any one issue, it's that the difficulty is cut in half any time you have the spreader, even moreso than in Contra 1.

Not much better than its already awful predecessor.

Maybe Contra just isn't for me...


Excellent game for revealing that your dpad doesn't perform diagonal inputs well.

Super smooth and sharp for an early Contra, but the game just works better in a landscape format.

Listen I know there was ample supply for tall CRTs in the mid 80s arcade business but that really doesn't work for this type of game

Ugly graphics for arcade standards. The difficulty level is very frustrating. It's practically impossible without cheats. Like with the original, the NES version is better.

It's Contra again but I can see the fucking bullets now and it replaces the base stages with much better top-down run 'n' gun levels. It's just better Contra.

More of the same, but given how tiny Contra is, that's not necessarily a bad thing on the surface. The level design is a bit more engaging here, despite being less iconic. Not sure what to add, as it has the same strengths and faults existent in the original. 3/6

Okay...as I said in my Contra (Arcade) review, I grew up playing Super C on NES, I never knew there was a Super Contra and that Super C was a port of an arcade game. That said, this game has all the exact same problems as the Contra I played before this, instead I'm seeing a shorter version of Super C but it feels so bad too play...yes it's playable, but I don't understand the weird jump animations and why the bullets follow the direction of the gun's movement in an arc instead of the way the NES version just shot the directions you pointed right away. It made this game more frustrating than Contra because now the foreground gets in the way at moments.

It's a sequel alright...the second step of unfair frustration...but to be fair, maybe I'd like it better if Super C wasn't my first Contra so I wouldn't have such difficult habits to shake.

i consider the original contra one of my favorite nes titles and one i'm relatively good at - i actually just did my first 1cc no konami code run of the game earlier this year. despite its obvious difficulty, i commended the original contra for its fair challenge and level diversity (even if i don't think the base levels are particularly good per se). while i think there are some definitive improvements to be seen in super contra, it's not quite as strong as its predecessor, but a necessary stepping stone to the series' highest bar with alien wars.

first off, the presentation here is fantastic, really honing in that 80s maschismo feel the original contra set up. the sound design is just as great as the originals, leading to some of the most iconic sound design on the nes. this is definitely one of my favorite looking and sounding nes games. the overhead ikari warriors-style shooter levels would lead to some pretty kickass redesigns implementing mode 7 in contra 3, but here they're just alright. i definitely think they work better with the nes' limitations than the base levels from contra do.

sadly, where i have to dock points is the overall level design and artificial difficulty. it feels like even at the start, super contra insists on constantly shoving near-impossible hordes of enemies which constantly respawn at you to the point that it becomes annoying and cheap over genuinely challenging. contra knew how to use the limitations of the hardware to create difficult but reasonable challenges, and it feels like super contra loses a little bit of that in search of bigger feel. also, i just don't think the bosses are as interesting or iconic as the originals, especially the first game's final boss.

still, a pretty darn solid time on nes and i'd say if you like the original contra enough, this is worth checking out. but if you go right to alien wars you won't exactly lose sleep over it either.

Eu já odiei o primeiro de Arcade, mas nunca vi os caras estragarem tanto um jogo na vida quanto o Super Contra de arcade... meus deus do céu é a pior coisa do mundo esse jogo.

Passei tanto tempo só vendo como esse jogo conseguia fazer tudo de bom do original se transformar na pior escolha que um ser humano poderia fazer em relação ao level design.

Não tenho paciência nem alma pra falar desse jogo.

I used a few continues, as well as the auto-fire feature built into the Contra Anniversary Collection to beat this. Not the most impressive of clears, but considering it's a really bullshit game, I think I'm fine with this.

Super Contra is just kind of a bummer to think about. It did make some nice improvements over the original arcade Contra in a lot of ways, from better music/presentation, to some interesting new mechanics (like weapon upgrading, apparently; I actually didn't realize this existed this early in the series)... but there's a few key things holding Super Contra back.

One thing, is that this game introduces a really terrible mechanic, in the ability to control the height of your jump, by holding up. Keep in mind, this is a game where you are scrolling from left to right in the platforming stages, and where enemies are constantly swarming you from the sides. You have to shoot them all before they hit you, while also taking the time to awkwardly shift your aim upward in order to have a non-shit jump. What the fuck. I'm glad Contra would never again experiment with this shit mechanic, because it really brings the game down. Good thing they removed it entirely in Super C on the NES.

In addition, even if you discount the bad jump mechanic, this game is just kinda bullshit in general. It loves to swarm the player with a ton of enemies, and even with autofire turned on, it can feel nearly impossible at times. And like with some other notorious arcade games from this era (including some of Konami's own works, like the original Contra), you only have a limited amount of continues before the game forces you to restart from the beginning – even if you've inserted more credits.

It's not worth the trouble. I only went ahead and beat this so I could finally put it behind me, but unless you're a super-dedicated Contra fan who wants to see both the series' heights and pitfalls, I would stay away from this. Super Contra is easily the worst in-house Konami-developed game in the series.

Played on the Switch version of Contra Anniversary Collection. I deleted the collection from my library, so I will not be continuing this game.

like the first game, but with new stages and bosses, also i found this game easier than the first contra game

Super Contra (1987): Secuela tradicional, dónde se ofrece más y mejor. En general me ha gustado más que el primero, y se me ocurren pocas pegas que ponerle. Aumenta la duración, la variedad, se ve mucho mejor para ser del mismo año...un paso adelante sin duda (7,00)

Contra on steroids is probably the most appropriate description you could give to the sequel of Contra. Basically a polished and enhanced version of the original game. The visuals, animations, and sound work here were pretty much second to none. It was still ridiculously difficult for the sake of revenue instead of challenge, and I wish the aiming when you shift from left to right would be instantaneous rather than arcing the way it does.

I forgot I played this years ago and upon starting another run, I remember why I abandoned this when I did. Terrible even for greedy arcade standards.

Slightly better than the arcade version of Contra. This game has all the same problems but introduces the top down stages which makes it a bit better. The nes version trumps this in every way and is simply put, not worth a damn.

It's called Super C for a reason.

Like its older brother Contra, this is one of the best NES games. The control is great, and the gameplay is fun and challenging without being too frustrating. Not a lot has changed other than the fact that there are a couple overhead levels, but not a lot needed to change in the first place.
