did you guys know fucking jack black was in this? what the hell

A standout adventure game that delivers on its promises. Almost like the glory days of LucasArts.

A charming point-and-click-adventure game.
Pretty generic and alright.

Good first half.

Great artwork and voice acting. Funny characters. Good first act that sets up an interesting world and plot, which Act 2 immediately makes nowhere near as interesting. Some story elements don't make sense. Very annoying wiring puzzle in act 2 that is randomized and then used multiple times in the ending area likely just to pad out their short game. Conversations give you the option to skip the entire talk but don't let you skip to the next line of text if you would rather read. Besides the yarn creatures the ship area (half the game) is not very fun to explore. Act 2 is just reused areas of act 1.

I can recall part 1 pretty well, it was interesting, looked great, was fun to play, but I can hardly recall part 2 for better or worst.

The narrative of this game was so poor that I'm surprised Psychonauts 2 ended up being so good. The focus on having ~BIG NAME~ actors really ate up the budget of this game and it shows

A great pair of seemingly unrelated adventure game scenarios that come together in a really fun way that's only somewhat bogged down by obscure puzzle design. The world building hits hard here, with two really great worlds full of colorful characters and cute ideas. However it's still an adventure game and it suffers for it. Gameplay involves a lot of walking around and rubbing things on other things until you get lucky. Still, it's very well written, and delivers on the ending. Mostly great!

Absolutely love this game although I may have some nostalgia bias, love the graphics and story just like Double Fine's other games, would recommend it for someone needing something to pass the time.

I feel like I need to give this another shot. Played it for a class and because of that I played it with the notion that I had to rather than I wanted to. But I like the visual style, from what little I remember, so I definitely need to try it again someday.

story and characters were phenomenal.

Nice point'n'click gameplay with wonderful worldbuilding. So many cute ideas. But having played through it - what is its message? Is there something more to it than "be kind to each other"? I would've wished for some more meaningful interaction between the worlds and a more interesting epilogue. For now, it is just a collection of good content without anything overarching. Best taken as a collection of short stories.

My memory of my time with this game is a bit foggy but I remember enjoying it but feeling like it was kind of a truncated experience. Still, give me more of these point and click adventure games and I'll keep diving in.

Convoluted, overambitious and tedious, this is a modern example why the old style of adventure games died. Difficult and obscure puzzles were not the point of this genre, but its story and charm through its setting, characters and mechanics. Above all though, it is missing a third or last act to conclude its plot threads which is both a mercy to the players for not wasting more time and to the game for not having to explain its eugenics plot. The celebrity voices were probably a mistake as they were not given many roles or lines to express themselves aside from being more expensive.

I just felt betrayed by this game trying to aim for nostalgia in the negative direction. As an adventure game fan, I cannot recommend this in good faith.

Probably would be one of my favorite point-and-clicks if it was a complete story, but it feels like it ends right when it's about to get interesting. The puzzles strike a solid balance between difficulty and rationality, the cast includes Jack Black so is automatically great, and all 2.5 of the locations are imaginative and visually appealing.

Great first half let down by a boring second.
Beautiful art and a great cast.

This one bored me, though the art and voice acting are good. I really ought to give it another try, but it's back to the backlog for now.

played the first half. might play the second half someday

Fun story game, narrative is well paced and the small gameplay elements fun enough on their own.

Double Fine's worst, which to be fair, isn't to say it's the worst I've ever played. Its writing is very "make it up as it goes along"-esque, and the acting is very bland (how do you manage to get Jack Black and Richard Horvitz to sound boring). Puzzles almost never become anything deeper than give a thing to someone to get another thing to give to someone else. The rare time they make the puzzles something deeper, they devolve into some of the point and click genre's worst. I can usually put up with bad puzzles in games like this, I love Grim Fandango, but this game's story is not good enough to make up for its shortcomings.

I have a love hate relation ship with this game

The first half of this game is so intelligent, witty and imaginative. Smart solutions, great characters and funny dialogue.

The second half is a boring, overly complex and leads to an ending that just feels unsatisfying.

This game was famously released as 2 parts and something clearly was lost in translation during that development time. Some may be able to look past its shortcomings, I unfortunately only see wasted protentional.

Love this game. It’s just a really solid point and click puzzler with some very creative ideas and great art and characters. The difficulty whiplash the second chapter gives is excruciating though.

Double fine continues to make bangers this game made me cry when it ended one of the games of all time for real it also took me a decent amount of time to complete and I got stuck a bunch of times which I enjoy. idc I liked all of it

Solid relaxing game with good narative.

A charming point-and-click adventure, with all of the flaws inherent to the genre. The writing is good but the story fumbles at the last second. You'll need to pull out your phone to look up the puzzle solutions. Mostly high-quality otherwise.
