Played (with a friend) as part of Atari 50.
Dangerously high novelty value. Finding weird hidden 4-in-a-rows is very fun, but I imagine literally any 2 players playing more than like 30 minutes would probably be able to play perfectly. The computer thinking for 20 minutes on the highest difficulty mode is crazy though lmao

My Nana used to have a physical 3-D Tic-Tac-Toe board. Growing up, I used to think it was the coolest thing ever and would ask to set it up to play every chance I got. Sometimes my uncle would play with me. It was a little clunky, but I remember loving how the plastic boards were transparent and how the rods meant to keep the boards in-place kept falling over. Usually we'd play maybe one or two games and then I'd ask to play Chinese Checkers or Super Mario Land on my then-new GameBoy Pocket.
I have nothing to say about the Atari 2600 version of 3-D Tic-Tac-Toe, but it was nice visiting memory lane.
I should visit my Nana. I love her. :)

They really gave the computer 20 minutes to make decisions man. But just play normal tic tac toe on paper. Hell it's not hard to play 3d tic tac toe on paper either. I get that this was really early video gaming but tic tac toe is really early physical gaming, idk why you'd go for this over that even in the era.

Interesting concept of Tic-Tac- Toe, except more complex and tedious.
The CPU takes way too long to make decisions, and movement itself is very annoying as you move the O or X to 4 different boards of tic tac toe, except here it's more like:
Tic - Tac - Toe - Tui
Since here you have to get 4 in a row, which you can use the different levels of the 4 boards to trick your opponent giving you Tic-Tac-Toe-Tui, interesting concept but also very tedious, also it's just not fun to play.
Played it on Atari 50!

Man if this was just regular tic tac toe, I'd probably be a bit more happy but it just feels a bit off to play with how the board is set up. I'm sure I've seen 3D tic tac toe done before this is probably the first attempt. Hilarious that the CPU can take up to 2 seconds on the easiest difficulty and 20 minutes on the hardest difficulty. There's no way anyone waited that long even in the 70s.
I mean, it is what it is, right? It's tic-tac-toe, but there are four levels of 4x4 grids and you can win IN 3-D!
This game has a lot going against it. The sounds are terrible, even for Atari. Basically a beep for placing an X or O, some little explode-y sound for moving around, and a very annoying alarm when you or the computer wins. The game is not super fun and gets boring quick if you're good, or boring quick if you're bad. I'm pretty sure my siblings never played this with me or each other, but even that gets old quick.
Pass.
