This is a very honest fighting game, every character has basically the same tools with unique characteristics, so with solid basics (Attack heights, counters, grabs, etc.) you can probably choose any character and win, but that also means that the skill ceiling is very high, a couple mistakes and you are out, so you really have to think to win, especially in team battle were your partner can heal if you switch, the result is a very engaging experience, one that doesn't surprise me to be so fondly remembered.
If you are here for the campaign, I have to warn you, the plot is a mess. Each fighter goes through 7 fights (6 + final boss) with some cutscenes between them, which may or may not be connected, the result is a barely coherent tale with some (Gen Fu for example) and a series of nonsense with others (I'm looking at you Ayane). Even the final boss is only relevant in like 3 of all the 12 fighters stories. The bright side is that each is like 10 minute long, so it isn't a lot of time and well, at least you can say it tries to make something more than the typical fighting game of the time.
Also yes, this game is full of fan service (Just look at the CG galley), be careful if that's a turn-off, otherwise, enjoy

A good sequel that polishes up the original DoA experience with some neat new additions too. It holds up visually today even on the Dreamcast, truly feels like a next gen step for the series and gaming as a whole. I especially like the stage mechanics and switching here, makes the fast, frantic action only more exciting with each match.

I enjoyed this game far more than I had imagined!

It’s definitely worth playing it if you call yourself a fan of fighting games! The absurdity of the moves and sending yourself or enemies flying is awesome.

Dead or Alive é um jogo peculiar, o game lembra demais o SoulCalibur por ser um jogo de luta em 3D e os comandos de ambos são bem parecidos, o que destaca em Dead or Alive são os próprios personagens, que conseguem ser bem o suco puro do final da década de 90 e início dos anos 2000. Eu curti bastante o design dos personagens (Kasumi e Hayate/Ein são meus favoritos) e da própria apresentação do jogo que é bem diferentona na minha opnião. Os cenários tem algumas ressalvas por serem meio genéricos, mas outros capricharam nos detalhes, por incrível que pareça eu curto o cenário de gelo que não tem muita coisa, mas achei um pouco “relaxante” ver um cenário simples e agradável.

Como um bom jogo de luta os comandos precisam ser responsivos e fluídos, o que realmente são, em nenhum momento senti que fui prejudicado pelo controle e movimentação do boneco, simplesmente bem feitos e gostoso de se jogar mesmo não sabendo o que apertar. O problema é a máquina apelona mesmo. Por mais que jogo seja só luta, acho interessante que existam outros modos de luta e coisinhas para desbloquear durante a gameplay.

O problema em DOA 2 foi os diálogos e apresentação da história, que jogando pela primeira vez achei bem confuso e o diálogos bem pobres, juntando a péssima dublagem dos personagens (o que faz ser um elemento engraçado até), no modo história quando joguei com a Kasumi, fui batalhar com a Ayane, rival de Kasumi, esperei uma cinemática bem teatral e dramática, mas o jogo mostra um diálogo bem rapidinho e acabou. Contudo é um defeito que não atrapalha em sua jogatina e lutas é só um detalhe narrativo que gostaria de ter visto.

Logo chego a conclusão que ficaria no meu Top 10 jogos de luta facilmente, o jogo é bem divertido, jogablidade maneira e bons personagens. Aliás tem o filme e achei bem divertido afinal hahaha

Bonito, acessível e estiloso, Dead or Alive 2 é muito mais que sex appeal.
Em um mundo em que Tekken e Virtua Fighter existem, é inevitável que outros jogos de luta 3D acabem na sombra desses dois gigantes e mesmo que DOA2 não tenha chego aos pés dos titãs do gênero, não se pode descartar a sua qualidade como jogo de luta.
Graças aos seus cenários interativos, as lutas ganham um clima épico e dinâmico, chain combos asseguram a diversão de casuais e, claro, os gráficos eram um colírio para os olhos na época de lançamento e ainda guardam um charme nostálgico para quem se deparou com este jogo no Dreamcast ou no PS2.
Joguem! Não é vergonha alheia como alguns títulos posteriores.

DOA2 coomer review edition

Tekken with BOOBS. I wish it had all female cast for even more BOOBS. But the BOOBS this game has are very good. i also really like the gameplay, it feels just like Tekken but something about it feels a little faster. But yeah whatever this game has GIRLS and with that has BOOBS with nice high quality JIGGLE PHYSICS and amazing graphics for the late 90s. I wish this game featured more a little more content because I want more BOOBS with fun gameplay but as it stands it’s a very good fighter for its time and holds up well today.

Tekken games failed to accomplish what this game did and it had far more better combat than any 3D fighting games at that time

Acho que é o mesmo caso do VF3, a diferença é que o jogo é visualmente mais agradável (tbm né, 3 anos de diferença), a OST é muito boa, o design dos personagens são meio... e também o jogo é BEM convidativo pra newbies, só é um 3d fighter meio genérico.

Probably the best looking 3D game of the 90's. I'm still not sure how they got it to look this good, most non-2D games from this decade look fucking awful. seriously, there are plenty of games from the past 10-20 years that look way worse than this.

as for the gameplay, i think it's pretty damn smooth. i always felt like Dead or Alive got this unfair rep for having big boobies when in reality they're actually quite fun fighting games. up there with Tekken for me at minimum

I played this game a lot since it was one of the only games I had for my Dreamcast... it's okay? DOA to me has always felt like a fighting game made with button mashers in mind.

On one hand the game really doesn't visually stand out among some other titles released on ps2, on the other hand this entry is just way easier to pick up and play with how much better it handles then the first game. definitely not a bad game whatsoever it just feels evident this game could have been polished a bit better in its presentation

It seems that Dead or Alive 1 was alive enough to get a sequel.

Dead or Alive 2 is a really fun sequel to its poorly made older brother, it pretty much takes everything from the console port of Dead or Alive 1 and just cranks the graphics and gameplay's smoothness to 100, it's a wonderful sequel that maybe doesn't bring much to the table other than a few basic game modes but it polishes the hell out of its predecessor and for a fighting game that's the most important thing to do.

It obviously adds more characters, stages, and game modes compared to Dead or Alive 1, the roaster doubled from its predecessor and the stages actually feel like new stages since they have this thing called danger zones, little quirk event that happens if a character get thrown offstage then a small cutscene plays and the combat resume where the character fell, dynamic stages are such a nice addition, it really reminds me of those QTEs from the Yakuza games.
And another important addition would be the Story mode, each character has its own "story" but in reality, it's just an Arcade mode with very short cutscenes between characters to explain their relations with each other, some have cutscenes and some don't but it's a very vague way to add lore, it could be a whole lot better and feel like it was made as an afterthought, though if you complete each story in the Limited Edition Japanese release you unlock Bayman from Dead or Alive 1.

Dead or Alive 2 on the Dreamcast might be the best entry point for anyone, especially the Japanese version called the "Limited Edition" which adds two new unlockable characters, new stages, and game modes. This game is really noob friendly as it doesn't take long to learn how the combat works, it's overall just a very fun game to play even solo against CPUs.

Overall just a really good sequel that polishes everything and makes the game a ton of fun to play, the best characters are Tina, Leon, Jann Lee, and Ein.

Tekken for people who will never touch a woman.

Right out the gate, DOA2 absolutely crushes its predecessor. It's much smoother and considerably more fun to play. It looks, sounds, and feels so much better than the first game ever could. I also really appreciate this is where they updated and generally solidified all character designs; because they ALL look so much better from the first game's (overall) very bland designs.

The general gameplay feels SO much more balanced. Using holds feel so smooth now; you don't need to worry about "offensive hold" or "defensive hold" anymore. Being able to just press Hold and 7, 4, or 1 (numpad rotation) depending on the High, Mid, or Low hits felts super natural. Throws are also a lot smoother and the input-timing on some combo throws isn't nearly as whack anymore.

The difficulty too, also feels overwhelmingly more fair. Though every once and a while, it still felt like the CPU would randomly decide you've had enough fun and just obliterate you in back-to-back-to-back rounds out of nowhere. I mostly felt this happening in Time Attack than anywhere else though (but it was still fun). The Survival Mode took me a bit to get used to and it's still not my favorite, but I appreciate that it lets just jump right into the action and just keep going until you can't anymore. I also appreciate we get actual tid-bits of story that doesn't just exist inside the manual; I like how the in-engine cutscenes play out during Story Mode and I kind of wish there were more scenes like the Kasumi vs Ryu bit where there's a small fight before the actual fight starts.

Overall, this is a pretty fantastic entry. I had a pretty fun time with this despite some quibbles. Once again as well, Tina and Kasumi (with a bit of Leifang) ended up being my mains. I could honestly see myself putting more time into this entry to unlock more costumes and Tengu, but for now, there's other DOA titles to play.

It's kind of amazing. The animation looks almost as good as something that would come out now a days, and the triangal system is greatly improved from the first one, with counters to holds being based off logical moves one would have to make based on the position of the hold. It also has the Izuma drop and the Soundtrack is super killer as well.

Dead or Alive es una franquicia de juegos de peleas que basa todas sus mecánicas en las diferentes formas de las artes marciales y en donde los escenarios intervienen de forma más dinámica en los combates. La segunda parte que fue lanzada para la única consola de Sega que ha existido es un buen juego que contiene un gran número de personajes con habilidades que parecen ser muy similares en un principio, pero van diferenciándose cada vez más a medida que nos volvemos mejores y más diestros en derrotar a nuestros oponentes. Los escenarios intervienen de forma más activa en los combates al implementar diferentes niveles y obstáculos, por lo que es común estar al tanto de los límites para evitar caer y sufrir daños extra o librarse de ser golpeados contra un cactus, por poner un ejemplo. Para muchos Dead or Alive solo es recordado por lo bien dotadas que están sus combatientes femeninas, pero hay muchas cosas más que valen la pena. Las gráficas son muy buenas y la presentación en general dejará satisfechos hasta a los jugadores más exigentes.
