Picked this up from gamepass, not worth full price. But a worthwhile experience. Cast are cringy but engaging and all have very differentiating personalities.
So many choices, that can fell meaningful, although I’m not really sure they are. In my opinion it was perfectly paced, with the right amount of info given at the right time. However, I didn’t find it super scary. Perhaps it’s the decision based gameplay but yeah the concept wasn’t that horrifying. The story along with the mystery is where it’s best.
Had a pretty shocking and tragic ending, but enjoyed every minute of it and would play again.

Overall a decent play; very reminiscent of Until Dawn but I'll be honest, the ending felt rushed when the beginning had such a good build up.

Oh my God... loved it!

The story was okay, nothing too fancy, but also nothing terrible. Could be compared to a typical 80s or 90s slasher movie, I guess.

I am not yet sure how 'big' this game really is in terms of unique endings as it was my first playthrough, but I am sure that there's a lot of potential for some quite surprising ones.

As always I gotta write something about the music, it fits the vibe, isn't overused, and doesn't break the mood at all. Overall that's a plus from me.

To be honest, I've read some of the reviews in here before buying and I almost bounced off of this title...
People were saying that the plot is mediocre or even bad, that the characters 'didn't feel real' and stuff.
In my opinion, if you like it in the first few minutes - you'll love it all the way through. It's a certain style of character building that you either love or hate.

It of course also has some things that I didn't really like. But they weren't annoying enough for me to cut even half a star for them. Just a few things I would've done differently maybe.
Like the controls and camera positioning in the prologue or transitions between cutscenes and gameplay.

Also... the gameplay. Maybe it was intended (it almost certainly was) but sometimes the game lets us walk for literally 0,5s after a cutscene, just to immediately begin another one. It felt like watching a movie with QTE in some sections.
Some people would complain about it, some won't. I didn't mind it at all, just thought I'll leave it here..

To summarize. Great great game if you come into it with a proper attitude. Maybe a little too expensive for its length, but I bought it on -90% sale and I'd suggest you to do the same if you got a chance.

Had a great time...

I really enjoyed playing it and it got me hooked pretty quickly. Being a fan of horror movies myself, I had a very good time with it. The acting is great and they do a very good job of introducing the characters and actually give them a lot of depth. However, all of that never really plays out. They build up a lot of relationships between the characters only for them to lead nowhere. The further you get into the game, the more it feels rushed. I also hated how characters sometimes died for the stupidest reasons, you'll almost certainly lose some characters for dumb reasons if you go in blind. It still does a great job of keeping you hooked and engaged but the disappointment will hit you at the end. The ending is terrible and makes the whole experience feel a lot worse. The game just...ends. There is no real conclusion for the characters, no pay off, just a summary of who survived and a very annoying podcast that summarizes what happened during the credits. The plot was actually not that bad but without a real epilogue and such a rushed ending I actually lost all desire to do another playthrough. Initially I planned to play through it multiple times and get all achievements, I guess I won't do that now.

So I had this game done at 97% for the past two weeks but one trophy was and is glitched. However the community found a work around and I finally got around to doing it.
The Quarry is a game made by Supermassive, Until Dawn and Dark Pictures Anthology fame. This is more on the scale of Until Dawn however. A far longer and much more detailed game than the smaller Dark Pictures games.
The plot itself is a throwback to 80's slasher films where 8 camp councillors find themselves caught up in a horror fest post counselling. Drama and terror ensue ~
Gameplay wise, we are looking at what you'd expect. An interactive movie with some gameplay sections that require you to move and collect items to give you that sweet sweet ~lore~
So if you've ever played one of their games or a TellTale game, you know exactly what to expect. They do not do anything to innovate the genre which is okay by my standards. It's a genre that doesn't happen often and I enjoy it's movie like qualities.
Obviously in a game like this, the plot is everything. It kinda stacks up?
I have a love hate relationship with this game. I enjoy a lot of the characters and enjoyed where it was going but I've had a lot of time to think on this game and I kinda don't like the ending.
It doesn't do it for me which is a shame given that I enjoy 90% of what this game offers. Stand outs and shout outs to Dylan, Ryan and Laura. Easily my favourite 3 characters and are what got me cheering more than anything in this game.
The other characters are still really good and are acted perfectly. I do love every actor and all their mocap work. There's a lot of moments where it genuinely feels real.
Fuck Emma tho. She sucks. She is the worst and I'm glad this a game she can die over and over again (great actor tho, plays the role perfectly. Just an awful human being of a character)
The plot does have really cool and strong elements that kept Pumkin and I as we played laughing and enthralled.
It's a game that is super solid in one run but when you play it more and more. You see the kinks and weaker parts a lot easier and more so.
However, if you enjoy 80's thriller/slasher movies. You're already set to enjoy this. This game will give you a fantastic experience.
But not for it's current price tag. Please wait for a sale lol
If you don't like interactive movies or dislike corny thrillers. This isn't for you at all.
Ultimately, I enjoyed The Quarry but it isn't without it's issues.

Until Dawn was way better than this

Story and Characters
-The Quarry has a full cast of some recognizable faces from film and TV and all of the performances felt very good. None of the voice actors stuck out as weak or like they didn’t fit in with the rest of the game.
-The characters themselves are all mostly likable with some standing out as favorites, but none of the main cast felt like they were too annoying or unrealistic. Even when characters would make choices that would be upsetting, they tended to at least make sense in the context of that character.
-The story is basic, but works well for the type of game that it is. The summer camp is a horror staple and it works well here, but I do wish the story had a bit more mystery to it. There are still reveals along the way, but some of the bigger reveals are unveiled quite early so there is less suspense in the narrative. Until Dawn had the more interesting story in my opinion as there were more threats in play and more reveals as to what was really happening.
-Sometimes the story lacked a sense of urgency and tension as the characters would not always react as you would think they would. Someone gets their arm cut off and while they freak out for a second, it’s a moment that is passed over too quickly and takes from the seriousness of the scene. This works if the game is going for a horror satire, but it doesn’t seem to fully commit to this idea either so it feels off.

Gameplay
-Gameplay is very similar to the Dark Pictures games and Until Dawn. This game seems even more focused on cinematics and cutscenes though, and sometimes the gameplay feels a little lacking. The story is good enough that the game never gets boring, but it could have been fun to have more gameplay heavy sections.
-It feels there are less big choices than in some of the studios other games. Admittedly, I only have done one playthrough so there could be a lot of content that I never saw, but for the most part, I felt myself wanting a few bigger decisions that would really alter the story or certain characters.
-Characters have certain relationships with one another that can improve or worsen depending on dialogue options that are chosen, but this never really seemed to make a difference to the story. Again, I could be wrong about this and the system is deeper than I realize, but I wanted a bit more depth to the dynamic between the characters or certain scenarios that would only play out if people were close or distant enough.
-The inclusion of the different characters being assigned to different real players in a couch co-op is very nice and makes passing along the controller very simple. The movie mode feature where you can watch the game play out is a cool idea, even though I think playing the game and making the choices yourself is more fun.
-I do wish the game was a bit scarier as it is a horror game. There were some cool camera angles that added to the tension and a few suspenseful moments, but most of the game was not very scary and I wish it had felt just a bit more tense.

Side Content
-The game is really just one big interactive movie, so there really isn’t much side content to talk about. There are cards you can find that will show a potential future and there are some clues that sort of act as collectibles, but that is really all the side stuff. This is not a bad thing though as the game is not really built for side content and is far more linear.

World/Level Design
-Hackett’s Quarry Summer Camp is a fun location and the different buildings make for some good drama and tension. I do kind of wish there had been more side areas or other locations in the game, sort of like how Until Dawn had a mineshaft you explored, but that is really just a small nitpick.

Graphics, Music and Glitches
-The graphics in the game are very good, especially all of the different facial animations. The characters usually look quite realistic and they are able to be very expressive. The environments also look very good, especially the lighting in the brief daytime parts of the game.
-The music was good, although not particularly memorable.
-I did not encounter any bugs or glitches during my playthrough of the game.

Main Positives of the Game
-The game has lots of fun characters and a decent story that keeps you invested throughout the runtime of the game.
-The graphics, particularly the facial animations, are very good and help the characters feel even more expressive.
-The game is designed to be a perfect couch co-op or online game and it definitely succeeds in that regard, it is a very fun game to play with a group of friends.
-The game has a lot of replayability as there are many different outcomes and it will be fun to revisit to see what different scenarios might occur.

Main Negatives of the Game
-The story is alright, but reveals too many of its mysteries too early and doesn’t feel quite as engaging as the story from Until Dawn.
-Your choices don’t always feel super significant, especially when it comes to the character relationships and it felt like the player couldn’t drastically change the outcome of the game, but this again could be because I only played through the game once that it feels that way.
-Not quite as scary as you might want it to be and the game doesn’t have many scenes that are super tense, but more fun, QTE sections that while stressful, don’t feel as suspenseful.

Stupid and a basically unfinished game, but still likable.

Okay, The Quarry is basically a playable horror movie, which is cool if you're into that. You play as a bunch of camp counselors trying to survive the night, and your choices totally change how things play out. The characters are kinda cheesy at times, but the spooky atmosphere and jump scares are on point. My biggest gripe? Some endings are just kinda...bad, and it made all my decisions feel pointless. Still a fun time if you're playing with friends and want those classic teen horror vibes.

Why does every... character talk with the... exactsamecadence? Even if these actors had something palatable to offer, the director is clearly unable or unwilling to tease it out of any of them. One egregious example is a character who can lose their hand in one chapter and, after a few minutes of the expected pain and anguish, acts for the rest of the game as if there is nothing wrong with them. Maybe the production didn't have the resources to shoot and incorporate a few takes where this actor gave a recognizably human performance, or maybe they just blew them all on way more important stuff like Ariana Grande licensing fees. It truly isn't worth thinking about for a story so predictable, implausibly mounted, horrifically paced, and derivative of its far better predecessor.

Ryan and Dylan are maybe the two most annoying characters in the Supermassive oeuvre. Gay boys took a catastrophic L on this one. Ryan especially goes from terrible to wretched as the end credits roll and you realize that this brooding maverick is a superfan of the absolute worst podcast ever recorded.

A pretty good story with comedy, seriousness and twists, while graphics and visuals are mostly stunning, it suffers from texture pop-ins (Xbox Series X) but fortunately did not ruin the fun, if you like to get connected to characters and possibly break down this is a great game for you.

Good lord I've never played a survival horror where I didn't want to survive. Not only did the characters not feel real at all, they were also infuriating (except Kaitlyn who was just okay). Obnoxious and stupid characters aside the plot was so ridiculous and clichéd I thought I'd have a better time if just turned on an 80s slasher because at least that looks good. Which brings me to my next point, the animation. It was fine at the start and then as the game went on it deteriorated making it look so ridiculous I thought I was playing a game made by one person in unity. And the cherry on top is how many choices and QTE do no matter at all. Truly a terrible game in every way.

I liked The Quarry but it was one of those things that I liked but I knew in my heart it was rubbish.

Feels like a step down in overall quality from Until Dawn but there's still plenty of spooky fun to be had here---the visuals can be impressive but this one simply lacks the replay value of its predecessor.

A downgraded copy of Until Dawn, which doesn't make it bad; on the contrary, it's what makes me like it despite everything.

I LOVE this game, despite what others say, I think that it perfectly made the Camp Summer slasher atmosphere, the characters are funny and enjoyable, the amount of ending you can get in this game is beyond me. The dialogue in this game feels like some times there is quiet but I think that makes it all the more realistic to teenagers. Awkwardness of some characters and friendliness in others, friendships and all. I think that the only issues with this game is its difficulty and ending. The game is way to easy especially for a game that a lot of the different events that take place rely on failing QTE's that are extremely easy. The game does make up for it with hard gun fights and very reliant decisions. The ending most people get is lackluster but with certain decisions it will be worth your while. If you want something campy, summer horror, if you love Friday the 13th play this game.

It’s a narrative game with a very unsatisfying narrative. Not really much more to say. It doesn’t succeed as a branching story because not all branches are well-developed or even exist at all. That it’s 8 hours also makes it so that any desire to replay it is gone, and it to me also makes it fail as a light B-movie horror because most of those are 90 minutes. It is paced like a dry turd. Might play better with friends in couch co-op and alcohol, but you can say that about anything from Monopoly to Russian Roulette.

Hot people, delicious horror and lots of good choices that lead to incredible consequences. The best game of this genre, easily. Amazing.


Gente gostosa, terror delicioso e muitas escolhas boas que levam a consequências fantásticfas. O melhor jogo desse gênero, facilmente. Incrível.

Overall really enjoyed this experience. The cast are compelling and a bit more relatable than that of Until Dawn. The horror aspects weren't as intense as Until Dawn, but there's still plenty of atmospheric scare and tension at many moments throughout the story. The story is a bit longer, but I think it does a good job of highlighting the many cast members at various times. The gameplay mechanics are an overall improvement from Until Dawn, with the holding breath mechanic far superior to the movement-based mechanics in Until Dawn. That said, holding down a button for a known amount of time had almost tension and leaves a lot to be desired.

The collectables were genuinely fun to find and contributed to slowly building theories about the surrounding world. At the end of my run, the story wasn't entirely cleared up, and unsurprisingly it isn't completely explained until you've reached the True ending.

My biggest gripe with the game is the means of replaying the game. The replay chapter select is improved from Until Dawn, but it's still incredibly time-consuming to attempt to replay chapters for alternate endings, making searching for videos of alternate decisions and cutscenes far more appealing than actually replaying the game, especially for the busy gamer.

The narrator of Until Dawn was one of my favorite components of that game, and truthfully, the narrator between chapters of The Quarry doesn't compare. The system for previewing future events is almost useless as well, with little room to interpret the events you preview, and it had zero impact on my gameplay experience.

Overall, I really enjoyed this game and would definitely play it again with a different group in the future that hadn't experienced it before. However, in my opinion it's best experienced once with supplemental youtube video watches as needed to fill in story gaps that might not have been covered by your playthrough.

I played this game together with my girlfriend, and it was a lot of fun to exchange who was holding the controller at different times, and it was incredibly accessible and enjoyable even for someone who doesn't play video games much at all.
